This is a fitting on a cycleops machine I had done by a local coach.
Was this the "before" or "after" picture?

I've had my TT bike 2 years but have only done one official one, April '11 when I did a 23:40ish. This was the position then.....

    http://youtu.be/U4hn9YdWzSc

Oh dear! Yes it was comfy.

I had given up all hope of achieving a decent position and was ready to get another frame until I was forced to use the turbo so I had a play around and managed a ride outside today and the position felt good and fast!

    http://youtu.be/kz_DI4BH5wk

Now it is totally different to how I ride a road bike, just wondering, if you can see, am I overstretching my legs? I dont feel it but it doesn't look anything like my road pedalling where I like to drop my heel as high up the stroke as possible. My saddle height is higher than road and alot further forward. Any other tweaks or advice please. Hoping to actually do some TT's this year. thx

    1) Pin your number on better
    2) Shoe covers
    3) Shave your legs ;)

  • Thanks Jeff!

The first two were a result of my normal disorganisation- I was late. I nearly went off without my helmet too. Shaving legs is wrong! Im not sure of the best way to get my head lower, that seems to be the most obvious problem aside from my resemblance to a gorilla.
    Cheers

I'd be interested in comments on my position. I think the aero bars need shortening as my arms are stretched when changing gear, but want to be be sure before I cut them. I previously had the whole handlebars lower but found that too uncomfortable so raised them a little, I also feel the seat needs to go back a little but find I slide forward anyway. At present my power is about 15-20W lower on this bike than on my road race bike.

    Thanks.

It does not look bad. Maybe trim the front of the bars to bring the shifters closer. Saddle fore and aft looks OK. It looks to be tilted down at the front. This will cause slipping forward and put more weight on the arms. TT hat will help.

Thanks, aero helmet is definitely next on the shopping list, along with front wheel. Do you mean trim the length of the bars to reduce my reach?

Reach does not look bad. Your upper arms are near vertical. I would cut the front of the bars to bring the shifters closer to your hands. Maybe 1" to 1.5" shorter. It may be worth experimenting with different shape extensions. I prefer S shaped ones but only found out after using J shape first.

Skinsuit is what you need to get next, then you get the aero helmet. Your jersey is flapping like a flag

New Season approaching and I'm on a TT bike instead of a road bike with clip-ons this year. I'd appreciate comments on this initial setup.

Yup, I got my entry Yesterday. Never ridden a 25 strangely. Last season was my first season of open TTs and I started with the WCA 12 hour champs! Followed by the 100 champs, a 50, the National 12 hour and the Welsh 10 champs. So I'm keen to get a 25 time on the form. I have ridden a lot of the course before on the aforementioned welsh champs. Concrete quiet DC and rolling A Road. It's perfect TT country round that way. We're spoilt in Wales really
  • I got my entry confirmed by e mail yesterday, just waiting for the start sheet now

Would be a great start for you if you manage to go under the hour on your first 25.

Me and my bro are doing the 25 2 up in resolven on sunday, he's in the same boat as you having never done a 25.
    I've done a 53 min 25 / 21 minute 10 and he's done a long 24 10 so should be interesting lol.

Well its over! his first 25 and despite being a fair bit slower I paced it quite well I thought, tough to hold back but I didnt have much choice and came back with a 58:55 giving us 6th place overall and 3rd fastest club team and a 30 quid prize. Our tactic was he does the first mile and I do the other 24 and it worked well lol

Well I've ordered some cheap 90 and 110mm stems to try putting myself a bit further forward. Hopefully this will tame the twitchiness as well as stretching my back out a little further and bringing my arms to a slightly off-vertical which I've heard is generally desirable to reduce frontal area. It does feel a little cramped on the 70mm and nothing like the comfortable position I had on the road bike.

K Davis and R Payne won, great ride by them 53 odd minutes,

Nice ride, nice bike and nice position.

I did this ride with a friend at the weekend as well - we shared the work changing every half mile to mile depending upon course.

Managed a 1.02.43 and placed 18th so still in the top half, we were pleased with that.

Position wise here is me (in front to the left) not got the flexability of my team mate but that will come as the season progresses.
Interestingly the position was very comfortable for an hour out on the road, but I struggle with anythnig greater than 15 minutes on the extensions when on the turbo.

Yup, weather was good - a bit windy but sunny and warm.

And yes, MGAlex was my partner. He has second claim at Ajax and we are 'evenly matched' :)

He's my friendly arch nemesis when it comes to TTing. We were extremely close at all distances last season. It's good to have a friendly rivalry to spur you on. Sounds like I have to watch out for you too now :)

Fancy our 10 on R10/17 April 14th? or the 2 Llandovery based TTs the following weekend?
