Your TT position - pics

  • How's my position looking?

I had a Retul fit a while back and I've slowly been lowering the front a bit and getting a bit narrower ( I have a 750ml bottle between my arms normally and am as narrow as I can go with that in) and I think it looks ok but wondered what the experts thought!

If I wisper it, I am a triathlete so I do need to run off the bike and with the set up as is I can produce good power and have a quick run split. My target races have a 40K bike split so not too long. I do seem to get a bit of shoulder pain in longer rides but I can stay in this position for a 25mile TT no worries and I'm comfortable cornering, descending and climbing shallow grades in the aero position. Also I've just started using the Adamo and wondered if I'm far forward enough on it?

    Not the best pic.

But does this look fairly low?

I'm doing short 23s for 10 miles in this position on that bike, I have a skinsuite but normal helmet.

Am I able to save any more power?

Some are sort of the same, but one of them I am more forward on the saddle, the bricks in the background I find useful for measuring I think.

On an unrelated note you have an awesome taste in music.

Here's mine, saddle in position of road bike fit. Done a 23.32 on a slightly hilly course, target is a 25 under the hour in 3 weeks. Just ordered new TT specific saddle which I will put on a different seat post to let me sit a bit further forwards to try to get lower but maintain hip angle. Have been able to move the clip ons forward but can't get them any lower.

I've been comparing my position to that of Tony Martin of late. Sure, he's about 3 inches taller than me but his position and body type are vaguely simular to mine despite the fact that I have way more body fat than is necessary. Everyone seems to love his aero position though and mine seems quite close at a glance. Just need to train in this position now over Winter...

Here's mine after fitting. My back is at 20 degrees which is a bit upright but necessary when the calender is a few 100s, 12hr, and 2x 24hr. Suppose I could drop the last spacer for the shorter stuff...

Optimistically looking for a sub 20 this year... Managed a 20:44 last year & regularly sub 21. Looking at a 30w power increase from the end of the race season last year, plus a few position tweaks...

  • I recently went from this where aerodynamics was good, but power a real issue:

    Hi all,

I'd welcome some comments, etc please. I had a Retul fit in 2011 for long distance triathlon, and had no issues whatsoever during very long training rides, and on the day itself. Afterwards I lowered the front end for some shorter distance tris and 10mi TTs. This year I'm getting tight hamstrings in this position.

Some feedback would be useful. This year is about more 10mi TTs and sprint tri/du (20km bike leg). Please bear in mind I need to be able to run afterwards too...

Saddle looks too high from this pic... but I may be wrong! Tight hamstrings will probably because of the increased angle between your back and legs, which may be alleviated by lowering your saddle a touch.

Oh and ditch the compression socks!

I keep meaning to drop the saddle a tad. BTW - it's all about the socks. It wasn't a TT so it's allowed ;)

    Hey guys,

Had a go guessing my TT position today, if anyone could provide some feedback that would be ideal!

I'd say you need to see what you look like when you're looking forward. You'll end up a statistic like that.

And you need long socks ;)

You should have a look at rowers revenge triathlon if you haven't already.

I stopped rowing 2 years ago, and the last thing I want to do is get on a f***ing erg again! Just use the club facilities still. :)

Any thoughts on my position as shown here please? I know there's a lot to do but not sure where to start!
