    Big Sticks

    No Messtins

    Sideways
  • My new red ano bolts arrived today (Probolt - only ordered yesterday, thanks to njee20 for providing the linky) and fitted, a lot cheaper than the KCNC, and only 80p each ;)

    img00103201010071943.jpg

Anyway, I have just ordered some Ti hardware for the Marin.....

    4 x M6 x 25mm caliper bolts

    2 x M6 x 20mm frame to mount bolts

    12 x Rotor bolts......

    :)

Question: Do SRAM X0 shifters come with Ti bolts as standard? They 'look' Ti.. if that makes sense...

Bad news is I was expecting my new hoops tomorrow, but phoned Merlin and they will not be here until next Tuesday/Wednesday :(

id cancel those wheels if they havent been built already, its a crying shame to add weight to that bike

He He - it's only 130 grammes difference, I have saved about 60 so far with changes on bolts/tyres (tubes specifically) so it still weighs the same ;)

They (DT Swiss) are still sub 1500g wheels... not 'heavy' by any means, plus the pickup is supposed to be superb... oh and they look sick to the power of rad

X.0 bolts are all ti yep, alu is half the weight though, and they'd match, you also need to do your headset top cap bolt.

Just ordering a red tapered alu bolt as swell for the top cap ;)

I am ashamed at my [tarty] actions I must admit

Sheeps.. 1700gr!!!!!! I wouldnt have touched them if that were the case...

Well the 340 hubs are about 65g heavier than Pro 2s, and the Pro 2 Hoops on XR400s are 1745g, even allowing for lighter spokes they're not going to be much under 1700g.

I stand corrected... just been on DT Swiss site and with Revolution spokes 1640gr all in.

    The XTR Wheelset was 1495......

So they are as I said 145gr heavier, although, as mentioned I have saved 130gr by switching tyres, and 110 grammes with the tubes, plus the odds and sods on the bolts by switching from steel to Alu/Ti

So it makes the bike slightly lighter than before, anyhoo, not too bothered about weight (to THAT extent) as I dont race and I weigh 14 stone.......

Its still a very light bike....

Njee - are the XO bolts same size as the lever bolts ?

Not sure to be honest, I've never used X.0 triggers, I'd have said they were M6, not totally sure. Easy to measure.

Edit: don't MatchMakers save more weight?
  • M6 x 15.... :)

You have created a monster njee... ordering a set of reds as well for the mongoose, they really are pocket money arent they??

Yep. You can fit them in your mechs too, and I intend to put alu in my disc callipers next year, although I weigh a bit less than you, not convinced how strong they'll be!

Yep, Im a fair bit heavier, hence why I can never go 'super-lightweight' I am sticking to Ti on the rotor bolts/caliper mounts for durability and strength.

The bolts for the controls are fine in Alu for me.....

6 x M6x15 red bolts (does the XO on the Marin, and the XT shifters and brakes on the 'Goose)

1x M6 x 35mm countersunk bolt in red (for the steerer. topcap)
    ....

    £8.29!!!

They are everybit as good quality as the KCNC stuff (as you said)

what happened to the wheel weight post?

They were first discussed a couple of pages back, that's where the weight was brought up, the posts on this page are still there?
  • Whoever posted it obviously thought otherwise about it, the figures I have given above are accurate with 340 hubs / 48 Revolution spokes /XR rims.

People forget that these are only 24h rims etc... not 32.

Anyway, I dont want this going down 'that' route... after adding these wheels, changing tyres and tubes and hardware the bike should actually be lighter..... on paper it is anyway.

I saved 110g on the tubes alone.. and a fair bit going over to the Larsen TTs....

But feck it, it's gonna be awesome!!!

Cant take the Marin to bedgers as I will be wheel-less.. so looks like the goose is getting its first outing as it was meant to be......

So, the big question remains, is it ever going to be ridden?
  • Andy wrote:

Monies TBH, that bike owes me a lot (as you know) and TBH I didnt want to throw a lot of money on new hoops..... with the Ti hardware I think thats enough as there is nothing left to change. I need to cap this somewhere along the line.

to be fair you have done so much to that bike that you have now started putting heavier stuff on it

He's lost touch. Should have gone for lighter wheels and finishing kit

Feck me, you would think I had stuck a set of Mavic Deemax on there

    So, added 150g... lost 250+ :?

So its actually 100+g lighter than last week... :D
