Shimano mechs come with alu stop screws as standard, I'm not sure about SRAM, think they're ti anyway.0

Only changing the band clamp bolt and the cable clamp bolt, I wont bother with the adjustment screws Now that would just be silly.... :oops:
Seriously, that is it now on the Marin. I need to focus elsewhere now. Would just be a unuecessary waste of monies to add anything else.0 -

Wayyhaaay... she's finished!!! 8)
Wheels turned up and are lovely, actually feel lighter than I thought they would. And man they look lovely. They are not conventional 340 hubs, the graphics are difference and the rims (although they say 4.2d on them small) have a different livery... VERY happy with them... they really suit the bike.. much moreso than the black 4.2ds I had.
Have just ordered som Ti bolts for the front mech then that SERIOUSLY is it, nowt else I would change on her.. hope you like!

Yes, its gorgeous to ride. Very fast and very light, can be skittish though due to weight and steep front end, but that's just how I wanted it0 -
I bet that thing flies like (extremely good looking) sh!t off a shovel. Could lose even more grams if you lost the bar ends though :P

Andy, you know I can't use clipless pedals becuase of left ankle Hence why I got Ti axles to drop some weight off the flats.
Re: weight of bike, I don't know as I havent weighed it yet, but I shall get it weighed one way or another, still feels light.
With new parts (tyres/tubes/all bolts replaced) I have saved around 300gr.. but then you have to minus the extra weight of the wheels (approx 150gr give or take) so I am at around 100-150gr lighter than before changes.. and yes I know it's cost a fair bit but it's how I want it...

Alu bolts on the X0 shifters
Ti bolts on the XTR FD
Ti rotor bolts
Shiny red ferrule caps on front and rear mechs and pushloc....

There's ALWAYS something else to change.
I was thinking about putting some white goodridge on there, but it's a right faff though isnt it?
But also, want to spend anymore monies on a Joplin Kit for the 'Goose and also some KCNC jockey wheels for it also.....
Managed to track down some acrylis paint and topcoat for the handful of small chips on the Marin frame, as like the On-Ones the paint is made of cheese..0 -
Honestly mate, I was worried the goodridge kits would be a faff, but I swear down, it's a piece of plss. It's basically a case of just cutting your cable and bolting the fittings in place then doing a regular bleed.
Took me about an hour to do both brakes.
The Jop kit does make a big difference too, both worthwhile upgrades imho.
God I remember cheese paint, I'm loving having a bike with real paint now.0 -

The Joplin kit is defo getting purchased saturday, does it come with the little drift to drive out the pin? Also, can you point me to a link (if you have one) that shows how its done as I have heard the destructions are shite....
Hmm may look into the hoses then.. it would make a difference and would top the bike of nicely.
Re: the paint, its around the rear dropouts where tightening and undoing the QRs made some paint fall off.. nothing major but it kept bugging me, and after purchasing 3 small tins of paint (Humbrol enamel) that were wrong and never got used. I then found some acrylic 'Tamiya' paint and clear coat that was 98% perfect match.
I also had to touch up the Mongoose around the shock mounting hardward where some paint had chipped off... again, no biggie but for the sake of a £1.50 pot of black enamel paint, silly not too.0 -
The instructions are not the best, but there are no better ones that I've found anywhere else (and I did look). They are just about good enough to make it work though.
Best thing I can adivse it to read them over and make sure you get it before making a start.
The Goodridge hoses don't really add anything power wise, but they look good, they're easy to fit, and the fittings can be re-used. Not sure about weight, I think you'd be adding a little with the hose, but possibly losing a little with the alloy fittings.0 -

Cool - routing it should be OK as well as I shall just zip tie the cable along the length of the brake hose then up. I shall just use the hose that comes with the kit rather than faff around with the white stuff that you said you had trouble with.0 -
yeh, I bought some goodridge gear outer because I wanted it white to match everything else. But the goodridge stuff is very slightly thicker than the standard joplin stuff, so I had to shave off some of the plastic outer and use ferrulles and stuff to make it fit.
You'll see what I mean when it arrives. If you could find some thinner outers in white, they'd work fine though.0
