Blimey, if you tell Ches which cafe's sell 'em he'll never get back to his car........we'll find him crashed out on the trail somewhere with a bulging backpack and dribbling oatcakes from the corners of his mouth.......''2001 Cove Stiffee FR

gave the bike a quick look over when I got home on Saturday and the back wheel has shaken some spokes loose again so I'm taking it in tomorrow to have it rebuilt. I'm not messing around spending 10 quid to have it tightened up after every ride.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

I've never had anything done to my wheels, might give em a looking at and take them back to Merlin if they need a going over, they built em, they can fettle em

The Mavic D521's on my Marin have been on there for at least 8 years and they are as straight today as they were the day I bought them. The wheels on the spesh appear to be made out of spaghetti spokes, I've already replaced the front one (OK, I ran into a tree at speed) but the back one just shakes itself apart on a regular basis. I'd like to replace it to match the front one but I don't have 220 quid spare just at the minute
I got the front one from Merlin as a custom build. Their wheelbuilder comes highly recommended on this forum.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

Hand made wheels rule, much tighter made than machine ones

Blimey Ches, loose spokes after every ride, that's unusual, if i were you whoever did the job last time should give you a discount on a rebuild......they shoudn't come loose like that.
I got my mavic crossrides 2years ago and not a loose spoke yet the spokes are flat bladed not round and seem to be much stronger than round bladed ones. you can get a pair for around £120-130 maybe less, apparently they have a good reputation for durability this side of the water.2001 Cove Stiffee FR
