for all those who are planning on coming on this ride and are not on the facebook group, can you post to say your coming so we know who to expect and who to look out for

the meeting time is 9:30am for a 10:00am start and were meeting in the carpark just outside the poachers cottage (not the poachers cottage carpark)

    Thread title change.....

Things have been a bit slower than usual in the Slow Rides group lately, with a couple of rides having to be cancelled due to low numbers.
A recent poll on our Facebook group confirmed that the majority of those who replied live in the Yorkshire/Lancashire/North Midlands areas so for this month's ride we are falling back on an old favourite that is pretty central for everyone to get to.
Our starting point will be the upper level of the Fairholmes Visitor Centre car park and it doesn't matter if you pay to use the car park or use one of the free parking lay-by's and ride down to us. Meeting at 9.30 for a prompt 10am start our ride will take in Whinstone Lee Tor, tarmac to Aston, up Hope Brink, Hope Cross, down the boulder field that is Blackley Hey, up the tarmac past Rowlee Farm and down Lockerbrooke back to the Visitor Centre.

    Hope to see you there.

  • Would love to come but looking at the route, it looks like it might be a bike breaker. I only have a basic hardtail and my mate only has a lowly 200 quid 'full suss'. I'll keep an eye on the thread for an future rides though, which may be less technical. Cheers.

  • Just joined the FB group and hopefully i collect my 'improved' bike from the shop the tonight, fingers crossed i can make some of these rides, i am both slow and unfit so i should fit in great.

Got to find some more ridding buddies as my No1. ridding companion is buggereing off to live to live in Finland shortly and crashing is no fun unless you have someone there to suitably take the p*ss, laugh, point and let you know if your bikes ok as you lay in a crumpled mud/dust covered heap
    Blood, Sweat and 21 Gears...wait...no 27....30...arse 2x10?

  • Hi BoarderGreen,

I'm sure you will fit in fine, and yes there are plenty of people to laugh at you as crash and make you feel totally at home.

    :)

Didnt join you on this ride as I was doing Llandegla week before last. I know you will have had a blast because after doing the blue (and a bit of a rest) I went and did the red. Utterly brilliant. Knackering but brilliant.

Getting on one of your rides may prove somewhat of a 'problem' for me as I live in Poole Dorset, not that this would be an excuse not to turn out as I'm quite prepared to travel. (Scotland being the exception).

With this in mind where is the next ride? I presume its at the back end of September.

It will be, and details will be posted here later tonight.

We do have some group members from Darn S'arfff or travel that way regularly so if you fancy getting out n about it might be worth introducing yourself on our Facebook page as that seems to be where nearly all of our contact comes from now. Just search for Slow Rides for Unfit People and ask to join (if you haven't already).

We have finally got around to re-scheduling the Rutland ROAD Ride ride that should have happened in April. Sunday 9th September with the usual arrangement, meeting at 9.30am for pre ride coffee and a 10:00am start

This 62 mile sportive route starts out from the Normanton location of Rutland Cycling and contains over 4000ft of ascent.

Park on the grass verge here, go through the gate and cycle away from the dam to the Giant Cycle store at Normanton/Edith Weston.

There will be a cafe stop en route and I hope there will be an ambulance waiting at the end.
