Hmmm, numerous tech forums haven't been able to fix it yet!!!!

Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with a dark screen. Tried it with a new inverter, tried it with a new screen and inverter, tried it with new screen, new inverter and new flex cable and it's still a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a dark screen.

Shortly before this problem arose it started getting hot at the top of the keyboard because the DC input jack needs replacing. Not sure if this is related.

Suggestions before I bin it and buy a new one would be much appreciated....

power saving mode? colour and brightness profile? backlight knackered?

All of the power settings and display profiles are as they should be and the backlight is built into the LCD panel which I have already replaced.

Well, it's not the cable, the LCD, the backlight or the software.

The connections to the external monitor are different to the ones to the LCD, so it could still be the graphics card I'm afraid. It's a seperate video 'head' and the software conttrols what's shown. It could be the connections to the LCD before it gets to the ribbon. Also, it could be a bad connection so the backlight isn't getting enough power - it might be a little to find the specs for this, however, even if you have the dexterity to multi-meter it. It could be the power supply feed. I don't know what rail the backlight is on, but testing something else that shares it (if anything) would elimate that.

It's probably a little bit of melted solder. If you weren't bothered about having a melted laptop I'd suggest the xbox method. You turn it on, you get it doing something, turn it upside down, you wrap it in a towel and you wait... That can, weirdly, fix this sorta thing.

Hard tail so that I'm not the only one. I have to admit if it's as wet as it is today, I think I'm going to find it a bit daunting. Definitely glad I bought some pads!

Yes, thinking of getting my walking boots out as I've a feeling trainers might get a bit soggy, especially on the bit between the two quarries.

Sorry we can't make it. We've been to Lee quarry a few times (Tammy's parents live in Waterfoot). If Tammy wasn't working this weekend we would have been joining you. Hope the weather holds out for you and you have a good day!

Full sus or hardtail? .....take both and do a couple of laps on each!

A mate of mine might be coming but it depends if he can drag himself out of bed. I won't know unitl 8 in the morning.

We're doing Lee & Cragg so a couple of laps on each might be a bit ambitious! We'll probably spend a while stuck in the bog between the two.

Just dried out from todays slow ride at Lee Quarry.
The track across the moor to Cragg Quarry was to say the least very wet, most of the track resembeling a stream, it was a little difficult to pedal in places as the water was higher than the front mech  , but we survived ..... next!

from what i can tell routes 1,3 and 4 contain jacobs ladder. and all the routes except number 2 are mostly stuff we haven't done

  • Guys,

Route 4 is the classic Jacobs Ladder route and the one I would recommend for our group, do not underestimate this ride just because it seems a bit short, this is hard work, the climb up to Jacobs Ladder from Hayfield is a killler and the descent down Jacobs Ladder will have you walking in places i'm sure.

Route 5 has some good bits depending on which way around you ride it, the route through the quarry is nice and IMO best ridden from Pindale to Bradwell, the track up Bradwell Edge to Shatton Moor from Bradwell is a killer of a push and a nightmare in the wet, mind you Shatton Moor and the descent down into Brough is a hoot.

You can get from Bradwell Edge/Shatton Moor across to Totley Moor and the Houndkirk Road if you want to try some thing different. Even though when we rode Totley Moor and the Houndkirk Road I took us the wrong way, I think Nalla is right in suggesting this may be better ridden by going down into Blacka Plantation and this route would be pretty good for a winter ride.
The broken road under Mam Tor is a great place for a little play around on all the natural jumps and the descent down Cavedale is a classic and there's even Stanage Edge!!
