    Hi Guys,

I know i'm jumping the gun a bit but I have a couple of ideas for a Peak District ride on the 4th December that would cover some new ground and would hopefully be all weather!!

    Route 1.
Set out from the Grouse Inn by Totley Moor, across Totley Moor, pick up the A6187 and then go down into Blacka Plantation, for Roo and James this is the reverse of the last time we did this. Back up to the road and onto Houndkirk Moor, Lady Cannings Plantation and up to Ringinglow. From here there is a fair bit of roadwork up to and around Redmires Reservoirs but from here we can go across Stanage Pole and Down Stanage Edge, Roo and James will enjoy this! Once again from here it’s roadwork back to Lady Cannings Plantation and onto the Houndkirk Road to return to the Grouse Inn.

    Route 2.
Set out from Hope and up the Roman Road, down Jaggers Clough, up to Hollins Cross, along Rushup Edge to the road and then turn left to pick up the Pennine Bridleway to Perryfoot and then work our way across to pick up the Limestone Way and then down Cavedale, especially for James and Roo, to Castleton and back to Hope. Lots of variations possible on this route dependent on direction of travel.

Both sound OK (weather permiting) some new desents there for me to try out
It's been quite a while since I've been out for a ride with the "gang"

We should be ok for 4th December. Don't mind which route all new stuff for us. We'll just follow! :D

    Kev
  • I'll try to work on Richie to come and play out, he's not done much non trail centre stuff, but he won't go if it's raining...soft git that he is

i think mikes got the right idea with going to the peaks
out of those 2 i would prefer the second option as i wasnt overly struck with totley moor and would much prefer to do something around the hope area

i would also like to add, the jacobs ladder route from edale that a few of you did earlier in the year
    what are brakes for again

Not really, we're doing some natural stuff in the afternoon then Follow The Dog when it gets Dark. No idea what the natural route will be, just depends on where Kangaroo decides to take us cos he's the one who knows where he's going :)

Here are the plans for next Saturday's ride at Cannock from Kangaroo.

Google map location for the meeting point:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF ... 7d8c3&z=19

We meet at Springslade Lodge at 1, depending how many cars we have the woman is thinking of putting our cars straight around the back of her house so as not to take up parking slots for other customers

    1:00pm
Meet at Springslade Lodge. I wont be taking us on too much of a ride in the afternoon so as to not wear people out before the main event so I will try and keep it to about 7 miles or so. That way we can keep the total mileage to about 17 miles for the full day which should be do-able by everyone.

    3:30pm
    Hot food at Springslade Lodge.
This is the time when they stop serving hot food but they say they will wait for us to get back. (this is kind of expected in return for them looking after our cars)

    4:05pm
    Night ride.
This is the forecast time of sunset. the fireroad ride up to FTD will help those who've not been night riding before to become slightly accustomed to riding in the dark

I'm thinking that we will join FTD at the top of the last section. which is the closest point to where we will be coming from. It does mean we will be doing the best bit first, but also we wont have an extra climb back up to the top after we've finished.

  • Sounds like a good plan, hope I can make it.

For the afternoon the ride could follow the blue route with the odd variations?

I would like to have a look at the war memorials if possible, not normally up there when the German one is open. If need be I can do a detour.

The afternoon part of the ride is all natural trails and I have no idea where we will be going cos only one of us knows their way around well enough to put a route together.

I think we are doing the the link section from Follow the Dog to the Monkey trail and the last 2 sections of the Monkey. Not natural trails but they are all ace! :D:D

    Thread Title Change

Our last organised group ride before Xmas will see a return to the trails of Dark Peak.

ermmmm, that's about all we've decided on at the minute. Time, start and route to be confirmed.

For those who can make it, there may be another group ride at new year weekend but I'll have to sort that out and have a think about where to go.

There is a good spread of fitness levels and abilities within the group now but everyone rides knowing that the ones at the back have to catch up, which is why the guys spent a lot of time on Saturday night standing around waiting for me after each section of FTD.

The videos show us going downhill, point me uphill and my speed is almost glacial, and that's if I'm not off the bike and walking!!!

We should be ok for the 4th December. Don't know as we can make the new year weekend one tho.

  • I'm still working on Richie, but he's not for playing out if there's any deep muddy walking bits.
We had a long muddy push on sunday and it's put him off biking a bit, and if he won't go, I can't go :(
