dont know if any of you know dalby that well, myself and giggsmaster off hull surrounding area, know it like the back of our hands,if you want to ride sum of the old red route, and parts that aint on the normal routes, give us a shout.
I have a mate who will probably be joining us who knows it pretty well but apart from that I was just planning on turning up and following the signs. At the pace we ride tho I think the marked route will be enough for our first group ride there thanks.
Feel free to join us, but expect to take 5-6 hours to get around the full Red :oops:1998 Marin Hawk Hill

the red route looks far on paper, but when you ride it,there aint that much to slow you up,im not fast on the ups or downs, but can still do it in about 2 and half hours....you can make it a longer ride by including the world cup course in with the red route, which will add 3-4 miles onto ride..theres maybe 3-4 uphills that might have sum of you pushing up,the downhills arnt very technical tho...imo the best part is the last bit, after you cross the road, fast and flowing back to visitor centre0 -
Hi all, just started biking and would be interested when your over near hayfield as i only live 2 miles away. watched the video and gotta say you lot didnt look that slow or unfit so you'll have to go easy on me0

Sunday 19th September will see our next arranged ride at Lee Quarry nr Bacup in Lancashire. As usual this will be a 9.30am meting for a 10am start.
Not sure if I'll make this one, but if not I'll definitely be at Dalby next month.
There is also talk of another ride in the Peak District (in addition to the ride PuddleRider posted abovet for this coming Thursday). This will probably be a route on the trails we all know and love around Ladybower but Kangaroo hasn't finalised the details yet and I may have got that completely wrong. I would like to try the riding over towards Hayfield sometime and our resident expert on that area is PuddleRider so I'll be trying to sort that out sometime. Depending on local knowledge of those trails in crappy weather, this one may have to wait until the Spring as I'm looking into the possibility of sticking to trail centres more over the winter due to their 'all weather' riding. If anyone has other thoughts on this please shout up.
Cheshley, Most routes in the Peak District during the winter are likely to be pretty wet in places, Hayfield much more so as it seems to have much more open moorland rather than the rocks around Ladybower. I have been trying to come up with a few routes which are a bit more XC biased and the Totley Moor route that i'm doing on Thursday is far less rocky and technical than what we have done in the Peak District so far, I'm also led to believe that the White Peak ie around Chatsworth and Bakewell is also less rocky and more XC biased which is why I thought poppits intervention was timely.
The Long Mynd holds up very well in the winter if you want to do another ride over there which i'll happily lead say January. Hayfield is probably best left until March or later when the weather may be improving a bit and the risk of getting caught out on the moors in bad weather is reduced.
There also a few decent easy options around the Tissington Trails and Carsington Reservoir which would make good fun winter rides, again i'm more than happy to lead around these in the New Year.0 -
Derbyshire in general is fairly poor when it comes to drainage, we identified it as a problem a few years ago when looking at football facility strategies which is why we've had so many pitch drainage projects over the last few years.
I think any rides in the White Peak need to be a bit shorter in the winter, the mud really adds to the time and the physical effort, throw in shorter days means shorter rides as well.
There are shorter versions of the ride we did yesterday around Chatsworth and Bakewell, ones with a few rocks as well!Eddy Merckx EMX-3

I just happen to be in Manchester on Thursday morning and I was taking the opportunity to get in a quick ride, this is only 11 miles so should take about 2 hours, it should be mainly XC with a few techy bits but nothing like Lockerbrook or the Beast.
From the Peak District MTB guide;
' The ascent through Blacka Plantation is challenging, and parts of the ride are high and exposed; but are balanced by some fine descents and very unusual paths. Avery enjoyable ride.'
I am intending to park in the lay bay (OS ref 258779 white peak map) 50 metres south west of the Grouse Inn on the A625 (used to be the B6054) if that's full there is a car park a few hundred metres further on.
You are more than welcome to join me.0 -
Beeley Moor has some great trails too. There is a great run that brings you to the back of the Devonshire Arms not far from Bakewell and the Chatsworth estate.
There are some nice routes round the back of the quarry at Eyam and also Curbar Edge. All from the White Peak book. Choices.0 -

A question about Headsets.......
OK guys n gals, you know me, you know what I ride and how I ride it. The headset on the Spesh is feeling a bit rough so it's time for a new one.
Any recommendations? CRC have this.......
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=275
which looks like a total bargain but I don't know if a DH headset is overkill or would last me forever as I would never wear it out!!!!!

i dont know about that particular brand, but i think how long a headset lasts depends on how serviciable it is and if you can get the spares
being a dh, i think it will more likly be heavier due to having to stand up to the rigars of dh
i dont think it means that cause its a dh headset the bearings last longer or the seals are betterwhat are brakes for again0 -

I would agree with Roo there...some spares for fsa h/sets are available on CRC....but having said that the low cost of such a headset (wiggle and leisurelakesbikes are over £20 for said h/set) means that a replacement isn't a costly affair...expect a LBC to charge £5-10 for fitting...they are bast*rds to get out and in again !!!!...you need a press to do the job.
I had to get one fitted on the Trek frame i got earlier in the year, my LBC supplied and fitted for less than £30 while i waited.
Considering the riding we do i would say that headset would be sufficient for your spesh Rich.2001 Cove Stiffee FR

I have a press and the tool to remove the old cups if you want todo it yourself. I've done three myself, including one on the carbon zesty and they're easy enough if you take your time!0

Does any one fancy taking on Stanage Edge?
By the way it does get harder the further you go down

Stanage Edge is North of Hathersage and between Hope and Sheffield, you can ride to it from both Hope and Ladybower which involves a long steady climb up the Causeway which will involve a bit of pushing
Then you descend a nice technical slabbed descent turning into a rock fest before settling down into singletrack between the trees and returning back whence you came. It is not for the faint hearted
You can also get to it from my Totley Moor Houndkirk Road route via Redmires Reservoirs but this does involve a fair bit of roadwork0 -

Well Ladies and Gents, it's the end of a era. The insurance ran out on the Omega today and as it's up for sale I'm not renewing it so it's currently sat on my back lawn. Until it's sold I can't afford to have a towbar fitted to the new car so for now, unless any of my local chums are attending any of the rides and have space for a small one, I'm grounded.

Hi, I live in Sheffield and would be up for a ride out if you organise any rides over this side again. The ride over Standage looks great Puddle Rider, if you are still looking for someone to go over it with give me a shout, it looks right up my street.0

Hi Guys,
If you fancy taking on Stanage Edge this is how you can get to it from Ladybower and return to Bamford Station, easy enough to incorporate into a Ladybower or Hope ride.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/La ... rd-Station0 -
BGM,
I do believe a ride around Ladybower is being plotted and organised by Kangaroo no doubt details will be published soon.
If you go back in this thread you'll find a list of the next planned rides which from memory are Lee Quarry, North Yorks Moors and Dalby, and Roo will be slipping in the Ladybower return (yet again) in between these rides.
Don't know if you are around during the day but i'm doing a short ride across Totley Moor and the Houndkirk Road tommorrow at 2.00pm0 -
I am around tomorrow actually, where abouts are you meeting? If I can get to wherever you will be in a decent time I'll come along for sure. I love Houndkirk road0
-
@BGM,
I'm planning at being in the layby near the pub (Grouse Inn) on the A625 ( I think this section of road was previously the B6054) south of Hathersage at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm depart. If that layby is full there is a car park a bit further on at the next bend in the road OS grid reference would be 258779 from the White Peak map OL24.
