Hi, quick question, how many people to you get coming to these rides?

A lot depends on how far away the ride is as we're pretty spread out across the country but seem to be mostly Lancashire or Yorkshire based.

Our first trip to Cannock had 24 people but the recent Coed y Brenin weekend only had about 6.

Saying that tho, only 9 came to last weekend's Cannock ride.

September's MBR magazine has reports on the new stuff at Llandegla, the Monkey Trail at Cannock and Cragg Quarry which is part of the Lee Quarry trip later this month. There is also a map for a hard route on familiar trails around Ladybower which we all know and love.

Ok, just wondered, we ride mostly in Derbyshire so might meet up the next time a ride's in our area. Ever thought of doing one around Chatsworth/Bakewell area?

Nobody has ever mentioned that area but that may just be because nobody knows any routes down there. If you know of something that might be suitable for a Slow Ride and you're happy to lead, feel free to put it forward and I'll post an event on the FB group pages.

Please note when route planning that the group has the full range of skill levels, from those who love the bouncy rocky descents on the Peaks to those (including me) who walk down them.

  • @ poppit, If you can come up with a ride around Chatsworth and Bakewell it could be a good idea, I am led to believe that the White Peak area is less technically challenging than the Dark Peak and it would be good to have some riding like this in the area where most of us seem to congregate.

thats more of a challenge than a suggetion to some of our lot.
my mind is already ticking with the idea. i'll have to give that one some thought

on a side note, if were going to do a night ride at cannock i will have to have a look for a safe parking location as i think birches valley closes at dusk

  • Hey Guys,

I'm planning on doing a little afternoon ride around Totley Moor, Blacka Plantation and return via Houndkirk Moor (all in about 11miles) this coming Thursday 9th September setting out about 2.00pm.
If any one wants to join me then your more than welcome.

Roo, any chance of that Cannock night ride being midweek?

does Midweek extent to Fridays? Like Roo says, I think most people would be able to do a weekend. I don't mind either way but in the week I would have to see if she who thinks she must be obeyed could finish work early, as well as the guys who might be coming with me. It's certainly do-able tho.

What kind of distance and time are we looking at, we're doing one in this area tomorrow which is 35km, would something like that be ok?

  • 35k seems about right, most of the rides so far have been about 20 -25 miles so 35k sounds OK, what do the rest of you guys think?

With the rides already committed to I quess about late November would be a good time.
  • @ puddle-rider and poppit....

That sound good...35k is 21:74 miles so like you say is within the normal riding boundaries of the group, late november fits in ok.

It's also an area we haven't ridden before so i would imagine everyone will give a thumbs up for it......make a note of the time it takes you to do it poppit annd take this into account as we normally do a 10 am start on the majority of rides we do this could lead us into a late and dark afternoon late november so people might have to have lights etc:

    Am up for it anyhow's......Steve.

I have no idea of the terrain there and it's hills that some of our guys struggle with (especially me).

As a reference, the 2 group rides we have done in the Peak District have both been in the 22-24 mile range and both have taken us the best part of 6 hours. The fitter guys could have done this in less time, but the idea of the group is that no-one gets left behind so they spend quite a bit of time standing around at the top of the climbs waiting for us (me) to catch up

Do any of you have a GPS that could track the altitude profile of the ride?

    TITLE CHANGE AGAIN.

Sunday 19th September will see our next arranged ride at Lee Quarry nr Bacup in Lancashire. As usual this will be a 9.30am meting for a 10am start.

Not sure if I'll make this one, but if not I'll definately be at Dalby next month.

There is also talk of another ride in the Peak District (in addition to the ride PuddleRider posted abovet for this coming Thursday). This will probably be a route on the trails we all know and love around Ladybower but Kangaroo hasn't finalised the details yet and I may have got that completely wrong. I would like to try the riding over towards Hayfield sometime and our resident expert on that area is PuddleRider so I'll be trying to sort that out sometime. Depending on local knowledge of those trails in crappy weather, this one may have to wait until the Spring as I'm looking into the possibility of sticking to trail centres more over the winter due to their 'all weather' riding. If anyone has other thoughts on this please shout up.
