thanks to everyone who came along
and also thanks to those two (you know who you are) who came to us outside the cafe at birches valley to let us know they wouldn't be coming with us, it was appreciated as we knew there were two more people to come and now we didn't have to wait around longer than expected.

  • Hi,

It was me, (Nick) that came over to you (with Rob who came out on your peak ride last weekend). I had a friend who visited from the North West (I invited him several weeks back to join on your group ride as he had not done the Monkey).

The route was finalised on Slow Rides to do the off piste stuff, but the majority verdict with the lads was to still do the Monkey so I felt obliged.

Hopefully I can make the Lee Quarry visit with you all.

    Anyhow sorry and thanks Roo.

no problem. as i said thanks for letting us know

    did you enjoy the monkey
    what are brakes for again
  • Yes we certainly did. Myself and Rob came off on the Lower Cliff. I washed out on the front wheel and Rob went over the bars (his shoulder ain't good). But as always we enjoyed it. We went through a nice cheeky run in the woods before the cliff sections that we found (I guess you know them all)

All in all a good day thanks. Weather was shite tho!

Did you all have a good day? Any casualties?

did anyone see my tree/head interface event yesterday, cause im trying to work out if i need a new helmet or not
i suppose it depends on how hard the impact was. so i'm not sure if anyone on here saw it or not.
i know barry did but i dont know if hes on here or not

you mean Paul? (aka Barry). I've txt him to see what he thinks as he's not on this forum I don't think. I didn't even know you'd had an off until he talked about it in the car coming home....

Speaking of Offs, Paul has heard from Alan today and he's OK.

Came across this few days ago.

I'd love to come riding with your tribe, can you fill me in on how rides are organised, where to etc. How you get in contact etc.

    cheers

If, like me, you gaze longingly at the routes in the magazines and think you’re not fit enough to ride them, or think you’re not fit enough to keep up with the group rides that get arranged on this forum, then this thread is for you.

As the title says, this is to be a ride in the Peak District (Ladybower and surrounding area) on either Saturday 27th or Sunday 28th February for those of us who aren’t as fit as we would like to be. The basis of the ride will be a route to be ridden at the pace of the slowest rider. That doesn’t mean you have to get off and walk just because I have (yes, I did say walk), but if you are able to ride up the hills that someone else can’t, you will be expected to wait at the top for people to catch up.

If you are still wondering if this is for you, let me clarify……

There will be uphill sections that I will be walking up
There may be downhill sections that you don’t like the look of and you may want to walk down
There will be some road sections (kept to a minimum though)
There will be plenty of stops to get your breath back
If you’re still concerned that you might be the most unfit person there, just remember that any time you’re with me, you won’t be.

The following disclaimer is being added as much for my own protection as yours:

Although I have walked and ridden in the Peak District on and off for the last 10 years, I am NOT a guide/trailside mechanic/qualified first aider
The terrain requires that your bike is up to the job.
The weather can change quickly so ensure you are suitably prepared.

Your health and equipment are your own responsibility. I will accept no responsibility for damage to you or your bike.

That said, I will try to arrange a route that would be rideable by the majority of people and if I can ride it, SO CAN YOU. If you think that you might enjoy such a ride, please post below.
If you fall off try again !

  • @ Ricardo 666,

Hi bud, the title of this thread is changed to each event/ride we do.....usually once a month or sometimes mid-month...f you check up on here you will find all the latest ride details kindly added by our group founder CHESLEY (Rich).
We also have a group site on facebook called SLOW RIDES FOR UNFIT PEOPLE where you can also find out the latest ride discussions/details....

You are most welcome to join us on any of our forthcoming rides...i myself live not far from you in southport so that gives an opportunity for sharing transport etc; to the rides.

Unfortunately i'm out of action at the mo until end of october due to a leg operation, but am always up for transport sharing etc;..usually i go to the majority of rides but have been out of action for almost 2 months now (can't wait to get back out again)

So feel free to ask on here or facebook for forthcoming details etc;........Steve.

    What Steve said......

I try to keep the title of the thread to reflect the next ride but sometimes there are short notice rides if a few of the guys find they are in the same area at the same time so it's best to keep an eye on the Facebook group page as well because since we all went on FB the forum thread seems to have slowed a bit.

Failing that just message me and I'll try to let you know what's planned. At the moment the planned rides are:

Lee Quarry, nr Bacup, Lancashire - 19th September
    Dalby Forest, N Yorks - 30th October.

There is also a ride that isn't arranged by us, but the guy I did a skills course with earlier this year. He promises a "fairly slow paced ride of about 16 miles" in the North Yorkshire Moors on 25th September. It's officially a ride for his FB friends so if you fancy that one, search for Chasing Trails in FB and click the like button. At the minute, most of the people who have clicked that they are attending or might attend this ride and members of the Slow Rides group anyway so it might look like we're taking over!!!!

There all out of stock though.

Edit: just noticed theyre due in on the 11th

I really like the look of these beauties, but bet they're going to be expensive. Would like to blast round Cannock at night dodging the beast that's supposed to live up there! http://troutie.com/?p=633

I think I'll stick with the Mickey Mouse effect. I already have a 900 Lumens torch that got bought last year and never used, but the common opinion is that you should have one light on your bars and another mounted on your helmet.

The 1400 Lumens Magic Shine has been added to my (extensive) wishlist......

Cannock in winter would be a right laff!!!!! but not until I'm fitter cos I don't want to be the one at the back. Have you seen the war films? The one at the back always gets picked off first.....
