Anyone ever seen an inner tube split like this?

Fitted a Carradice SQR to the SS using a zipped roll. Looks like it lifts the bag high enough that I'll be able to get a District below it on the seat post. I'm impressed.

Going to get another for the Burls / Carradice Junior combo but I doubt it will give sufficient clearance for a light with that bag.

BB was starting to creak a bit, so I had the seat post out last night & polished it to clean, then stuck a rag on a 1/2" socket extension bar and cleaned the seat tube out to cleaner than clean. A dose of carbon grease and the BB creaking is now resolved.

Riding Etape Cymru at the weekend, which really demands access to the granny ring, so finally plucked up the courage to have a go at replacing the seized internally routed front shifter cable last night. Employed the garden twine and duct tape method. All went surprisingly smoothly and, by 1am, I had a full quota of gears again. Now sleeping at the desk.

Swapped a Conti Gatorskin cause of this

    xk7x.jpg

One peril of running full mudguards, with a 4seasons tyre. TBH not sure of the mileage on the Gatorskin but riding with a 14st pannier bag + 25kg rider has no doubt hastened the wear on the tyre. Luckily no PF visits on the tyre cause of this.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

What do you carry in your pannier? All the food you've not eaten for the past years?

Finally put gatorskins on the commuter, having put up with the wet paper supplied tyres for too long. Hooray!

Just looked at the weather for tomorrow, the raceblades are coming out!

EDIT - Fixed gear is now complete with long grips, dura-ace 16t sprocket and z610chain 8)
Road bike is now fitted with Raceblade XL's, full lightset and finally matching bottle cages that don't share the same space :)

Went out to the garage to fit guards to the Kinesis. Looked for the little bracket that was delivered with the frame to attach mudguards. I remember putting it in a safe place. I've tidied up since then. Feck feck feckity feck feck. Gave up.
Swapped the saddle on the MTB and the Kinesis over to see if it's the saddle or the position on the MTB. Having ridden it in this morning I think I need to order another Spoon.

A Quick fettle of the Qoroz ended up being a bigger job as I: cleaned the bike (therefore it will rain tomorrow); re-indexed the gears; swapped front and rear tyres in an effort to make them last longer; and tried to stop the brakes rubbing so much.

Apologies for tomorrow's rain, but it looks lovely when clean and oiled

Fitted Super Record brakes and a Record crankset to the Look. I must now stop looking at it and dribbling - it's chuffin' awesome! All Record now aside from the shifters which probably have to stay Centaur as I prefer the current shape levers to the older.

Tweaked the front mech alignment, bathed the chain in gear oil and now all I need to do is try it out...... hopefully this year.......

Hmm, good idea. I'll see what I can do. Have to go outside as the only camera I have right now is hopeless - it just might manage to get something OK outside. Maybe next week I'll stop buying bike crap and buy a camera instead

On other exciting matters, I shall return soon hopefully with tales of my fitting of no less than eight new bearings to the Ribble!

Soloist is cabled, taped and indexed.

Pug has had the rear rim tape adjusted and is now 51/18.

Still to do; sticky hub on the Soloist (needs stripping and possible bearing replacement) and I need to change the NDS crank on the pug (after several weeks in which it needed tightening every 10 miles and came off once I now can't get it off).

removed the fork and headset bearings from my Scott seems i caught it just in time, light brown sludge where grease used to be, cleaned and repacked with Phil Woods hub & bearings grease, I also removed the seat post and checked for any water in the frame, thankfully none so I added some clean carbon contact paste and raised it by 1mm.

chain wiped clean and re lubed for tomorrows ride

  • Swapped my gorgeous summer wheels for my somewhat heavier winter ones. Needed the dynamo wheel and light as a couple of later nights last week, it was getting to the point where all of the cars passing me definitely were using their lights.

Sorry chaps, winter's on its way.

    :(

Meant to ask, how did you go on the Pedal for Scotland? I was looking out for your bike. I set off with a team from work at about 9 and finished at about 5 to 1. We made *all* the feed stops. :)

Cleaned the focus ready for its impending departure. I'll be sad to see it go, but looking forward to the arrival of the kaffenback on Tuesday.

lol I must have started only a couple of waves after you as I started at quarter past 9  Didn't finish till a little before 3 though.

I was hoping to go faster than previous years but it's not easy trying to dodge cones and the occasional car to overtake slower people. I did enjoy it though.

Need to keep the cycling up over the winter to try and go faster next year though. Looking out at the kind of weather we had today though, not easy.

Am I reading strava right when I see the climb out of Avonbridge had > 20% sections.

    I doubt it, which segment?

I do remember thinking that it was just as well they'd fed me first, though.

Bodged an Exposure Flash mount to fit an aero seat post. The mount already has a little notch in the bottom to fit the post and two bits of sticky backed high density foam make sure it doesn't move.

It will move if you push it, but it returns to centre.

Think I might sell my collection of flash / flares and get a TraceR.

Avonbridge climb. When you run the mouse along it and it shows the gradient there are sections, albeit small sections where the gradient is 21% or 28%.

Regardless of the gradient it is a tough climb. So why is it I want to try and find a route that would include it :?

I think it may have been an oddity with your GPS, my elevation profile doesn't have it going above 9%:

Yes, I'm in the lowly 211th place, but to be fair, I was trying the whole ride not to drop all of my colleagues - well, until we got to about mile 35, where I decided to just bugger off.

Oh dear, looks like my Garmin might not work correctly anymore, think I might have to buy a new one

I'm in 810th place or 53rd if I limit it to women. Although frankly, I'm just glad when I'm not last on any segment I ride. Damn you for bursting my bubble though. I was dead happy at riding up gradients those steep and it turns out it's not that hard a climb after all :(

Like the title of your ride btw "Pedal for Scotland, 2013. Because Scotland can't pedal for itself."

After having an intermittent knock on the rear wheel I finally tracked it down to the Garmin magnet hitting the RoadRacer stay, moved the stay 4mm and silence.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
