New saddle fitted to the commuter and seat hight, angle and position changed to try and match the Sunday bike. Hopefully this will cure the pain in my knee and hip. Fingers crossed.

  • Tightened out the small bit of play in the front wheel that was still slightly disturbing and more importantly got rid of the grit in the pedal-crank interface that were the cause of my clocks. Silent Running ftw.

Replace the inner tube on my rear wheel. Had easier days riding the darn bike. It was not easy getting the tyre back on or tbh getting the wheel back on. I hate removing rear wheels :(

Now though I'm worried that I've pinched the new tube and will have to change it again.

Tuned up my XTR V-brake so I can do snakey skids when the snow comes.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Four of those single wall mounted hangers from Halfords or Edinburgh Cycles and some simple cheap screw in hooks for the wheels, i'll take a pic and post in the morning.

Re-adjusted the seatpost after movning it too high. Unfortunately this was a mile into this morning's commute. Now I have to go and measure the BB to saddle height on the fitted bike and move the commuter seat post again. The new saddle and adjustments seemed to have resolved my hip issue but only a longer, harder ride will confirm. Fingers crossed.

Changed tube in rear wheel of the SS after taking it to the LBS so they could loosen the nut they'd tightened more than my puny arms and spanner could handle.

Changed tube in front wheel of new/old bike - now not enamoured of Schwalbe Lugano tyres so will change them next pay day.

Attempted to fit raceblade copies to new/old bike but have given up til Thursday when will, hopefully, change pedals also.

I think I'm getting to like this fettling lark :)

After the death of my road bike frame 51 weeks ago, I removed all of the components with a view to getting a new frame and building that up. I was given a frame last week and yesterday I put the components on (first fix) to check positioning.
Need to get a few bits and pieces (cable outers, cable stops, front derailleur band or band-on front derailleur and bar tape) and then final fix (lube, thread lock etc) and I'll have a road bike for the first time in a year. Just in time for the weather being rubbish.

I am so chuffed with myself!

Am off work with a throat infection so having done the 'sulking' route, thought I'd have a go at changing the pedals on the new/old bike. Read the relevant section in my bike maintenance book and, just for extra insurance, watched a few vids, repeating sections where necessary.

Changed the right pedal with little problems, then repeated the reading and watching, cos I didn't trust myself  and changed the left pedal. That one took more work and I'm really going to have to either have a man on standby or start lifting weights for arm strength

Sucessfully changed pedals, changed saddle position (for the umpteenth time) and will now take bike for a test ride hoping the pedals don't fall off. Fortunately my lbs is a few mins away so they will be happy to help me out after abuse/ribbing/laughing

Must remember to remove dark marks from kitchen lino when I return. Will add mudguards another time.

Yes, I did grease the spindles before insertion :P

    Woo hoo!!!

Edit: Test ride was successful. No falling-off pedals. Marks on lino partially removed and mudguards now on. Feel the need to buy rear lights and P-clips :)

Had a visit from PF's pet snake as I rode to work, happened 100yds from work so left it till I finished at 22:00. Amazing how quick you can change a tube when you want to get home.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I've spent the night polishing my helmet :) In bike related fondling I've put new batteries in the lights on my helmet and rear of the bike.

Finally replaced the broken spoke on my winter bike's front wheel.

Changed the front mech on my racer to an Ultegra. Stamped on the old Rival one a hundred times just to make sure it could never come back.

Spent too long in the spares box looking for a replacement bolt for the front light as the head on it is an imperial size but the shaft is metric :? So I cut a slot on the head and use a screwdriver bit to tighten it up, dribbled some lube on the chain as it was dry and swapped the 17t freewheel to an 18t as the ride home has a killer hill that means walking the steepest 1/4 mile.

Whereas I spent some time with various hole saws taking some weight out of, and adding ventilation to a pisspot helmet. Don't know why, but it was fun. :D

@Bails - nice. Aggressive set-up, but is that saddle position normal?

Stuck new batteries in my front light, put some air in my tires. Thought about washing the bike but it was cold out. Done! I love singlespeed, belt driven bikes as commuters :).

    Ding, Dong!

After yesterdays rear toob change I had to readjust the chain tension, 15 miles with a too tight chain :(

What happened to the old one ? Worn out ? Fell off ?
A few weeks ago a leaf fell off a tree and it hit my bell and made it go ding :)
What are the chances of that ?

Never had one until now. I just got fed up of calling out to people although they won't listen even with a bell :(

I actually use the carbon seatpost and Romin saddle from the Ribble. But that was back in the Ribble so I just grabbed the Boardman one that was lying around for the test ride around the block. That said, the saddle was fine, the bike'son a bit of a slope so it's not as nose down as it looks.

Went out to clean the gunge from the chainstays & give it all a bit of a wipedown and ended up doing a full strip down to constituent parts with three takeaway pots full of washers, screws, brake & gear bits plus the chain having a good soak in cleaning stuff.

It's now back together looking like the day it rolled out of the shop and I'm more clued up than I'd prefer to be on The Archers, Robert Hardy's Desert Island Discs choices, ISIHAC back for a new run and with the odd break for coffees & the boy's football match, a bit of GQT too. Maybe an old radiogram that only gets LW isn't the worst source of background noise in the garage.

Anyway: bike ~= like new. A worthy exercise. Just need to ride it again now.
