It should be just a case of swapping out the fork, perhaps that would also be time to fit a front disk brake.

Tonight I shall remove mudguards and put Vittoria Randonneurs back on. High pressure on way, very decent dry spell in prospect.

Well, some of this occurred. My Randonneur has a red mark running through it which I guess is a wear marker!

New tyres please. Something 32-35c I think.

cheers all, Avid brake, Kaffenback fork and Vittoria 28 tyres bought - bike should look very weird when its all fitted but who cares if it makes the ride comfortable again.

Yeah, when you get to the red it's time to say goodbye... I think mine did so after 6-7000.

yep although judging by the listed weight it must be made of rusty girder steel

Snapped the Smart light bracket on the pannier rack last when it made contact with the wheelie bin on the landing outside my flat, a quick look and CRC didn't have any stock, Evans didn't instore either so took a Dremel to the back and cut a small channel for a zip tie. Good as new.

Forks arrived and are much better in the flesh, very happy with them, same for the heavy avid disc brake.

what a total ball ache ...

fitting ultegra front mech to the scott, that bloody thing just wouldnt index nicely rubbing in the large chainring no matter how much i adjusted height, limit screws, cage angle and cabled tension.

In the end i set it up the right way i.e. the first way then took it off the stand for a fettle ride and sure enough it shifts perfectly with no rub, oh yes! i have a broken arm so wasnt pushing the shifter hard enough

I'm not saying how long i messed around with that

Did you go for bronze colour?

Which disc front wheel did you go for in the end?

I can't decide whether to get the Kaffenback 2011 fork; bang for the buck disc front wheel and the TRP Hylex front hydraulic brake, or "frankenbike" my Tricross with the Recon fork and M395 hydraulic kit off my presumed dead Saracen frame (which would also mean changing to the Saracen sweeping handlebars).

Canyon, Cervelo and Peugeot deep cleaned. Will change tyres and bar tape on the Cervelo this evening.

Turned my front mech around the seat tube about 3 degrees, shifting almost silently now and no over shifts. When they say get the outer cage parallel with your chainrings they mean exactly parallel! If the back of the cage is only 2mm sticking out, its not going to shift properly 100% of the time.

Hopefully indexed my gears after installing new chain/chainrings/cassette and jockey wheels. Worked like a charm on the workstand but different story on the rollers when testing.

The whole thing is only, what, 12mm wide internally? 2mm is 17%!

I was cursing three different shifters because of it.

Turns out flat bar left shifters probably do have the same cable pull as MTB left shifters, but I am still not sure.

Today I replaced a brake cable, tightened headset, tightened saddle, pumped up tyres, tensioned chain/rear wheel on my... ... BMX!

Then went and rode miniramp for the first time in years. After riding a road bike for a couple of years going back to the Beemer is very very strange. Managed to get a foot or so of air, so pretty happy with that. Contemplated recording it on Strava, I have issues.

If you can keep the figures in Strava separate from the road bike, there's no issue. :P

This evening I finally bled the brakes on my GT Avalanche... my first time doing a push bleed from the calliper, but seemed easy enough with the right kit. I will find out tomorrow. First time I've touched the brakes in the 3 years I have had the bike, and I am pretty sure the previous owner didn't bleed them either. I'm thinking 5 years is a pretty good run.

Managed to get my seized axle undone to find the freehub body screw had unwound, binding against the ball bearings.

The little bugger's loctited in now, so that won't happen again. Axle's wrecked though. :(. Hopefully the frame is not!

Finished gears back on former SS.
Swapped tyres from one MTB to another. Begorrah that was more difficult than it needed to be, and having done it, the knobbies don't fit in the rear triangle, so will have to come off again. Argh.
Trued up mate's wheels which were a bit wobbly.
Stripped all the bits off the new/old frame I picked up Friday, except BB because I can't find my Really Big Spanner for the tool.

After riding with the BB5 on the Tricross I though today how bad the braking was, adjusted the inline adjuster and no better, undone the cable clamp at the calliper all with no improvement. Then I wound the inner pad in a click and pulled the lever from 10mph and nearly went over the bars.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Ultegra 6800 2x11 Groupset
    Shimano RS685 front disc brake
    Shimano RX31 Front wheel
    Kinesis DC37 Disc Fork

Whole build only added 80g over the previous 105 groupset build, so possibly a new (lighter) seat will restore the balance. Front brake still bedding in, waiting to see what its like overall.

Friday fitted some raceblades in the Helium to see how they worked on the club run the next day(ok-actually)

Then yesterday mended puncture on the helium which I must have picked up on saturday and took the chance to give the bike a wipe over and clean and lube the chain. Also checked the icarus for some creaking noises I could hear on the ride home on Thursday (think it was the stem bolts not tight enough)

Today gave the train hack trek a wipe over and flipped the stem and also not really fettling as such but tried to convince a work mate to buy a b-twin rather than a carrera.

Fitted a new chain over the weekend, but then had to junk the ride as the baby was being difficult and the wife was showing clear signs of sleep deprivation.

This led to a speedy cassette swap this morning when it became apparent that the chain would be slipping all the way to work....

Welcome!
