Taken a punt this time on Jagwire Racer cables/housing. Always used Shimano before that.

They're very nice and last quite a long time.

Ah, that moment when you wonder how the hell you're even going to get off the bike, let alone continue your ride...

Hmm, didn't notice any improvement with these over my pretty old Shimano housing when I swapped them out a couple of months ago. Gore on the good bike seem better, tho that may be more the more positive SRAM action on that bike vs Shimano.

Decided to change the tires on my CX bike from the Winter Racing Ralph's to some 28" ones. My god what a ball ache trying to get the Ralph's off, managed to get the front wheel off but gave up on the rear.

Any suggest for a stubborn tire?

Long overdue replacement for the tyres, difference is phenomenal compared to the ones that came on the bike.

also sorted out the mount on the computer, hopefully that solves one of the numerous rattles I've been trying to chase down

You could cut it off . A less destructive approach would be to use zip ties or (groan) a spare toe strap* around the tyre and rim, as tight as possible, which can give you half a mm on the other side to start working the tyre off the opposite side of the wheel. This sometimes works when getting a recalcitrant tyre onto a rim.

    * Despite the fact that very few people use toe-strap-equipped clips anymore, I'm always amazed that Sheldon assumed we have thousands of the things lying around.

Chain snapped on the way in this morning, still well in spec so I guess it was a bad shift or my little-bit bonkers front gearing (22/38/44 x 11-34 gearing)
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

To what address should I return my fettling license?

Important points to remember and learn by

    1. Headwinds mask noises
    2. You look down and notice lateral wobble on the crankset = BAD
    3. Dont forget or ignore servicing BB after months of wet rides
    4. Small regular maintenance saves lots of money over time, this time can be very short

    Damn it :x

I just removed everything BB crankset etc and discovered the worlds most rusty bearings, even after a bath in white spirits follow by flushing with gt85 and the packing grease until it comes out clean there's no hope, I've put it all back together and the play has gone but both myself and the bike know I've been very bad and this is no makeup sex.

    Online shopping here I come.

Finally fitted most of the new parts to the CAAD (post, stem, pedals, saddle. New bars and tape to happen next week), so next week will feature trickle-down of the old parts to the Synapse, and the old, old parts to the spares bin.

Had an annoying moment in which I snapped the alloy bolt for my new lightweight expander cap. I couldn't get the play out of the headset by any means, and kept tightening it, CAAD's being known for needng a lot of torque on the headset. Of course, in a mixture of haste and stupidity, I'd somehow put the top bearing in upside down, so no amount of turning would do anything, as I found when I pulled the expander the whole way to the top cap and snapped the bolt in two. Back to the Cannondale part for now, but if anyone knows where I can get the new SI Evo top-cap (the 14g one), I'd be very grateful.

Fitted all the bits to my new wheels; tyres, discs etc.
    Drops front in, no problem.
Drop rear in......err it won't go, feels like something is stopping it. Ahh, that'll be the 160mm disc in a 140mm space
Remove wheels and proceed to undo rotor bolts, except half of them seem to be made of cheese. And they're stuck fast
Quickly drive up to LBS, and he gets them out in 20 seconds with his Park Tool torx wrench, and hands me some new bolts, all FOC. - http://www.ascycles.co.uk/ Top bloke
Embarrassed by my numbness, I manage to buy some shiny new skewers to match the red hubs, so it all worked out in the end

To be fair, they are made of fucking cheese.

I have about 3 in a drawer if you want me to send them to you. I no-longer have any GXP groupsets so they are only adding to my dust collection.

Not personally fettled but the Italia now has 105 rather than veloce. Looks good too- a lot meaner for some reason!

Serviced the headset... the big bearing is still OK after two years... which is good news as I can't face spending 20 quid for a new one

Anyone in SE London/Canary Wharf got a hanger alignment tool I could borrow?

Fitted new bb, crank, cassette, chain, new cables to good bike. Took ages to thread the gear cables through the SRAM shifters but once finally done and a quick adjustment of the b-screw the indexing was spot on.
Commuter has been mis-shifting for ages, even after new cables/outers, so replaced the chain, cassette, took off and degreased/relubed derailleur and jockey wheels, still shifting badly in both directions. There's a ton of play on the jockey wheel and even though the tension pulley is moving by what seems the correct amount the play in the jockey wheel seems to make the chain stay where it is. Considering the cost of new jockey wheels I may as well get a new derailleur just in case the cage has got bent somehow (only 18 months old), but I need to check the hanger first.

Thanks for the offer, may have to ride over to the SW at some point and take you up on that. Autoshifting up/down all through Sunday's ride, esp whenever I got out of the saddle, which made Berry's Hill 'interesting'. Soaked the derailleur springs in degreaser when I got back tho didn't get chance to check the cable, and this morning's ride was a lot better, though quite a bit of chatter in the middle of the cassette and creaking cranks. Lots of lateral play in the crank arms so new BB is on order, and may have to pick up a new derailleur too. Thinking I should really get the message from the Lord of Cycling and convert it to SRAM/go Di2 /admit failure and get it serviced professionally

it would appear that i'm unable to set up my SRAM rival groupset so that it doesnt rub in the small front and any of the smallest 3-4 cogs, this wasnt the case before, i suspect it might be cable tension issues but for the life of me i cant get it working.

SRAM is coming off, campag back on

Tried rotating your FD round the seat tube? (can't remember which way though)

    Rotated Handlebars to usable drops.
    Moved Levers to Paoliniesque position.
    Moved levers back to normal.
    Rewrapped bars in foam tape.
    Lowered stem 20mm.
    Moved saddle forward 20mm roughly.

Felt amazing cycling in today like an actual road bike.

tried everything, all i can think is perhaps the shifters and FD aren't compatible, they're both rival but not sure what year the FD is.

Removed a 1cm spacer from the Dolan for added slammage. Will cut the steerer tonight if my back doesn't give out on the ride home.
