DW - it's for the iPod and you cand find it in the App store (£1.79) in Health & Fitness.
It is called the "Pocket PT Resistance Cords" and there are also some Swiss Ball or Dumbell exercises that you can get.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

Hi,
went into Boots today and got weighted. I hade virtually the same clothes on as when I got weighed last month. I weighed in at 161.4kg.
That is 1.2kg heavier than when I weighed myself one month ago!
My bodyfat has gome down, my clothes are a little more loose and my cycling speeds are going up.
I am hoping it is just muscle density.
Have to say, I am not right happy.

muscle weighs more than fat, and if you've eaten anything containing salt you'll be holding water.
Chin up mate....

Was it about the same time of day aswell? because if it was later then you are guaranteed to weigh heavier, always weigh yourself after your morning bio (whatever it is LOL) and as Chesley says there are many factors to you weighing heavier.
Your muscles will be tightening up after your cycling increase so expect a sharp rise in weigh and it will level out and drop rapid then slow down.....as long as you keep up with your diet.
No dramas mate just dust yourself off and look to the next weigh in, take care.0 -
Well done folks - a lot of good miles it seems you've put in and a lot of weight lost.
We should start a running total of the weight lost by fat club members!
As for me - in the last 10 days I've gained 0.5lb due to not being on the mtb from a few injuries - but maybe its muscle...
I think the amount and level of intensity of exercise is what really counts as this week I've only done
30 min on an exercise bike
a few days of press ups
3 days of walking for 2-4 hours
Since I've averaged about 2000cal a day and kept relatively active where possible I was quite surprised to see the gain. Especially when these online calculators are telling me I could be losing 2lb a week with no exercise and eating 3300cal a day. Crazy!!!
So got back on the bike tonight and WOW what a difference!!!
I took 24 minutes off my usual time on my 18 mile ride!!!
I just cant believe it.
And thats despite it being over the rims in mud in sections and it raining. Mud is a new experience for me and it feels great! I've got a new appreciation for female mud wrestlers now! :roll:0 -
Hi,
I heard muscle weighs three times more than fat. I have ordered some scales that have a 200kg capacity so I will start monitoring at home at the same time on the same spot on the same scales and see what happens.

Well Ian, if that £1400 bike gets you to your target weight and gives the missus a ripped body to admire I'm sure she'll end up forgiving the initial outlay. Also £1400 for a decent bike isn't all that much of a big deal nowadays - it's a lot of dosh I grant you (twice the cost of my bike), but you'll be getting a quality item that should last years. Only if it ends up gathering rust in the garden will it be truly expensive.
Good luck with your new regime.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

A major landmark today folks as I have got my weight below 120 kilos. I was beginning to think it was never going to happen as it's been a while since the scales at the gym have budged. Another nine kilos lost by late-September and I will be well pleased.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

Anyone know how many calories a pretty flat, moderately paced disused railway line ride of approx 32 miles would use up for a bloke (me) of a tad under 19st? I realise it's not an exact science but I'd appreciate an idea. There's a charity ride from Guildford to my home town which I'd like to join in.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

Thanks for that TLT, it says I need to take in 11 pints of water per day and get 203 grams of carbs at each meal......blimey. I have just signed up to Livestrongs' Daily Plate and will se how that goes before the 5-day free trial runs out.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

Just don't drink all of that water in one go - you will get very sick or die from water intoxication.0 -

Would that be the Downs Link Trail?
Good luck with it!Ned Flanders: “You were bicycling two abreast?”

The Downs Link - yes that's the one Jenny. I am rostered to work on August 1st and my company are being s*ds as to granting annual leave, so I'm not sure yet if I will be able to get there. All being well i'll be able to call in a favour or two and I shall enjoy a good days' ride finishing with a well-earned couple of beers at the Red lion (which is half a mile from home)Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

Sounds a sweet ride. But seriously and literally - take that site with a pinch of salt. Its quite common for people to die from drinking too much water due to washing out your bodies salts. Just drink what you need so your pee is slightly off-clear.
There was a good thread here on isotonic drinks and ones that you can make yourself by BigBenj - actually its a sticky now - so check that out for replenishing your salts (potassium, sodium, etc).0 -
that thread has recipies in it as well i am gonna make o ne up for the L2B this sunday0

I bought some books, off Amazon, to both help me with my weight loss and to increase the variety of food I eat:
101 Low-fat Feasts (BBC Good Food)
101 One-pot Dishes: Tried-and-tested Recipes (BBC Good Food)
101 Healthy Eats (BBC Good Food)
101 Cheap Eats: Tried-and-tested Recipes (BBC Good Food)
101 Store-cupboard Suppers (BBC Good Food)
The Classic 1000 Calorie-counted Recipes
From the recipes I've tried so far they all seem to be fairly well balanced and pretty simple to make too.Starting Weight: 25 st 13.44 lbs - On: 20/05/09

Thanks all, I thought it was a bit odd recommending that amount of fluid intake. On a normal gym day I generally take a bottle of made-up 'Go' lemon & lime sports fuel and refill it with water as I go through my workout little by little so as to keep some of the taste. It would work out at roughtly three-quarters of a litre. Other than that I would usually just stick to the usual tea/coffee and fruit drinks as and when I got thirsty.
On a long ride i take my Camelbak filled with the same Go drink.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)

It sounds like what you are doing already is fine.
Only thing I'd change is that once you get to the thirsty stage you are already dehydrated so the key is 'little and often' and without the aid of expensive testing equipment judge your hydration levels by the colour of your pee.0 -
wish me luck guys i have the London to Brghton bike ride 2mro. 54 miles of sore arse coming up. will give a full udate on my self begining of next week when i have a little more time on my hands0
-
Its that time already? Whats the longest you've ridden so far in prep for this?
And good luck mate!0 -
You are right of course, TLT. but I think I may have worded my post wrongly. What I meant was that during the day I would have a drink as and when I fancied one, not necessarily when I was parched - out on the trail or in the gym I do indeed, as you say, sip little and often from my bottle or backpack. Good tip about the pee colour mind.
With regard to SilverSenator's post about buying food books from Amazon, I have just bought a Smoothie recipe book so that I can get some more veggies into my diet. I am a bit hopeless when it comes to veg as I generally can't stand the taste of them (cauliflower is the spawn of the Devil to me) I did, a few years ago, buy a conconction of veg (carrot, cabbage etc) which with the addition of orange (to mask the veggie taste), made a pleasantly drinkable way of getting near my 5-a-day. The thought of a Smoothie made completely with vegetables fills me with dread.Start Weight: 128 kilos (20.2 st) (April 17th 2009)
