  • Welcome to the new members.

@Silver We all go through phases like that mate. The key is really to recognise it and then start back doing something about it rather than let it get worse and worse.

I've been injured recently so my riding has been down from >100miles a week to about 6miles for the last 3 weeks.
I've still somehow managed to lose 10lb in the last 5 weeks.

    Good luck all

mate do 100+ a week miles on the bike ti would kil me if i had to do less lmfao. i dont know if i would like it lol
  • The problem is that I cant go out in daylight or be exposed to lights at the moment.
I dont think I'm turning into a vampire - although playing around with some sacrificial virgins sounds like a good idea to me.... :D

Its just the surface layers of my eyes break down and fall off. So had to spend the last month with both eyes bandaged most of the time.

Got some lights for the bike now tho' so am going to try to see if I can handle night riding...
Failing that there is the exercise bike.... not much fun but it will help me get fitter...
  • Hi Times,
sorry to hear about you illness.

I live in a farm house along a deserted country road.

Last night somebody walked past the house at about 12.30am talking about the relative merits of fat loss through walking.

    Was it you :)

  • I AM NOT IN THE HABIT OF REPEATING MYSELF 3 TIMES :)

Well its the big weigh in on Monday morning :(

The wife has gone onto Weight Watchers so I am loosley following the points program.

Working my arse off in the gym.

    Today I did 5k rowing.

250m rowing challenge at 43.3 secs which puts me 5th most powerfull rower in the gym.

500 Cals on the cross trainer

    500 Cals on the treadmill

    Crunches and leg raises.

Tommorow is Yoga and rowing folled by jacuzzi :)

I have been watching Americas biggest loser and to be honest it is inspiring me to work really hard in the gym.

I am not fully sure that my goal of not using weights until 23st is correct but it is a goal all the same.

As I own 2 different types of bodyfat monitoring I am going to test with both on Monday morning and divide by 2 for the average score in the future.

I know its not cycling but you guys gave me the incentive to start pushing myself.

    Regards

nice one ian keep it going chap
  • Hmmm . . .

Been watxching what I eat this week (except I had a Pimms and a beer) AND I cycled 124 miles on a MTB this week . . .

    And I have lost nowt!

    **sigh**

Maybe I'll try more beer and less excercise?
  • @ian - thats well played mate - keep it up!

    @bulletprooffool
I get numbers like that all the time. The key is to realise that you have actually done yourself a lot of good and keep going. It could be down to water retention or the muscle/fat balance (or to finishing off each ride with a kebab and chips).
But I've found twice now in the last 3 months where the scales tell me daily that I've reached a plateau for 2-3 weeks only to find the next week I suddenly lose 4-8lb - and it stays off!
So keep at it and you will soon see a difference.

I dont know what update I last gave but its about 3.5 months in now and I've lost 1 and 3/4 stone and 6 inches off my waist.

Weighed in at 20.5 this week which is a loss of 7pounds in a week this tri training hasn't half helped me shift some weight, just hoping now I'll keep it going.

I have been lurking the forums for a few weeks as I prepare to invest in the Cycle2work scheme and supplement my ageing Claude Butler hybrid. Obviously the title of the thread caught my eye and I read all 30 odd pages as I need/want to shed a few pounds, I guess I am a lightweight at 14 stone 7 but the Wii says I should be 11-8 and my tight trousers tend to support that fact.At 45 years old my cholesterol is too high, my asthma is controlled and one lung is slightly kaput due to a tumour (gone but never forgotten).

I guess what I am trying to say is I am in awe at the efforts you guys are making and it made me feel somewhat guilty as I only do 8 miles a day in 4 stages (it's a commute either side of two train journeys).

Well I was inspired - so took a leisurely Sunday morning ride along the cut for 22 miles to my moms and back. It was actually 34 miles because I cycled passed the junction for a while. When I about turned and finally got there it tuned out she'd Lastminute.com'd on a cruise.

Hope you don't mind me becoming one of your merry band as I pursue my goals.

    Take care

    Welcome to the club mate.
Just need to make sure the 'c' on my keyboard doesnt stop working... :D

Moving swiftly on... 34miles is a good start and a new bike is always good for the incentive - know what you're getting?
  • Hi,
    well done CanalRider!

I use the philosphy rite or wrong that given that I love my food, all my gym work or cycling work equals free food to eat.

The only reason I am losing so much at the moment is that I am not taking the option of the free food. I am dieting.

For breakfast I have just had 2 very large boiled egg and tomato sandwiches with water.

I will probably have a diet shake for afternoon meal. Then a massive but fairly healthy meal this evening.

Eventually I ma hoping to get down to the same weight I was 10 years ago at 19st which will be a 6st loss for me.

As I will remain more active and be a little better on the food front I will hope to remain at that weight.

The key is the exercise. Watch Americas biggest loser, they sweat their arses off in the gym and it pays off.

See this link for before and after pics of them all.

    Thank you for the comments.

I hope to get a Boardman Comp FS which will use up all of my voucher then I can batter the tracks round Sutton Park and then brave Follow The Dog at Cannock.

Mrs CanalRider informs me that a low cholesterol diet is basically reducing saturated fat which means I am effectively on the WeightWatchers Diet, which means we have all the recipes at hand so I shouldn't suffer too much. Work have been supportive by raising the price of chocolate in the machine to an stupid price which I refuse to pay.

  • Hi,
did the gym challenge today. Which is the fstest time for 250m on a Concept 2 rowing machine.

I did it in 40.9 seconds which puts me 3rd fastest in the gym ranked against the skinny racing snakes :)

I am not even fully fit and only have to speed up by 2 seconds to take the gym title. I have vowed to do it in a month.

  • Hiya

I just joined this site as I want to get back in to mountain biking. I used to go out loads prior to having my little girl. My main goal is to lose at least 4 stone but as steadily and healthily as possible.

    Fat Club:

    15/8/09 15 stone 4
  • @briar - youre really getting into your gym work mate - good luck on your quest for the top rower! ;)

@bfg - read about your trapped nerve mate, sounds a bugger. If you got physio for it then be sure to do it religiously as it can make a hell of a difference.

@backtocycling20 - welcome to the club. I read your other post so I'll answer it here. The answers to most of your questions like what to ride and comfort, etc will be in our fat club faq which is linked to in the opening post of this thread. If you have any more specifics or anything you want to explore further just post back here and well all be happy to help.

    Good luck and happy riding!

hi all names Carl, felt like putting forward my own story

24 years old, managed to wack on the weight at uni until i felt it was time to sort myself out, peaked at around 17st ish, currently I weigh 15st 5lbs. I had bloated back up to 16.6 when i came home from holidays at the beginning of july, 14nights of binge drinking and eating junk food didnt go down well with me so the recent loss has been motivating me.

I commute every now and again but mainly do about 25miles an evening on average 5-6 times a week. mostly road these days as I'm aiming to race next season. but my do some mtb over the winter months. my first goal is to be under 14.7 by my birthday which is 11th october, fairly easily achievable really. but first cat 4 i enter next year I want to be around the 13st mark

I'm watching what i eat now and cutting down the calorie intake, especially the chips and rounds of toast. I've practically given up alcohol which is a shame as i have a crate or 2 of bud in the garage. however the odd occasion I will drink if its a worthy night out.

anyway good luck with your own targets guys, keep at it because its worth it

  • Hi Acid

I am new too today. I completely get the whole uni thing. I was 7.5 stone until I went off to uni @ 18 and I think I put on 2 stone in no time by discovering drinking most nights of the week, calorie filled post pub curries and getting the munchies at 4am.

Sounds like you are doing loads of cycling though. Good on you.

thanks, i've got quite into cycling as a sport as opposed to just a hobbie like before and I'm quite competitive constanly trying to increase my average speed and best circuit times. also with a national cycle route right on my door stop, well it would be rude not too.

but yeah your not wrong, I was about 13st at 16, 14st at 18 and then had jumped to about 17st by the time i turned 21, fry ups in the morning, crisps and chocolate throughout the day followed up with about 10pints and a curry or a kebab in the night and this was multiple times a week. couple that with zero exercise, really wasnt worth it looking back.

good luck with your training, once you get the first stone out of the way you'll be hooked like me
