+1 Fat Club member. My weight has been up and down over the last few years and I'm currently sitting at 17st 10lbs at about 6ft. I aim to hit 14st in roughly 26 weeks (aiming for 2lbs per week).
If I can I aim to go for a run twice a week and now my arm has healed I will be getting back into to doing some mild weights 3 times a week so hopefully that combined with riding everyday will help shit some flab.
Trying to not eat rubbish food as well but might allow a takeaway once a month. I'm currently snacking on mixed nuts and apples rather than biscuits and rubbish so hopefully it'll all help.
Good luck to all for this year in shifting weight!0 -
Well not too bad so far...2Kg (4lb) in a week and haven't been out over the weekend.
I'll be packing my six pack.................of ale in the summer0 -
Been a while since i posted lads so i thought id throw myself into the mix
started riding again in june ish 09 at just shy of 23st now currently licking the 20st so am delighted right now ( bought some shiny bits for my GT as a way of thankyou)
am still getting the strange looks as i pass the yungun's and the red sock brigade as i huff n puff after them up the hills - mind you when the gravity kicks in on the downhill i reach terminal velocity much quicker than there skinny asses - thinking of putting bodicea chariot style spikes on my axles
anyhoo just wantd to say to any 'bigboned' ppl if i can shift it we all can so good luck and enjoy

Another Member...
Hi
Im 17, 5ft 11 and weight 76.6 kg (just over 12 st) but my main aim is to get a 32 waist (currently 35)
I do quite alot of CV exercise but never seem to lose the belly...Yet have no other areas of obvious fat, you couldn't grab anything on my legs arms or shoulders. I know that working one area won't burn the fat off in that area and that it is burnt off all over...
Can anyone suggest methods to lose the gut?0 -

I was having the same problem when I first started back riding. I got a saddle with a center cutaway for my undercarriage, (same as this one but I got it from my LBS) http://www.parker-international.co.uk/10053/BBB-Anatomicdesign-Saddle.html, since using it the problem has gone away0 -
Hi to all,
Think i should qualify for membership, I'm:
Just above 19 stone, 6ft 1 and 40 years of age, male. Mostly carrying excess weight on my top half. Desperately unfit and need to shape up. Have an office job and eat and drink too much crap. Also gained 3 stone in the last 2 years and need to start going in the other direction.
Just bought my first ever decent bike and loving it. Although cant seem to go to far atm. looking to build up the ride lengths and speed gradually. Hoping to get motivated to get fit and have a complete lifestle overhaul.
Time will tell and dont forget to post your success stories to keep others motivated.
Good luck all!0 -

I'm 35, 6'2" and last week weighed in at a fraction under 18st. Not done much exercise as the job is not overly strenuous, but decided to join the C2W scheme as I used to love cycling years ago but got lazy. Also was told by the missus to go on a diet as she had started one as well (helping her was how I gave up smoking as well...)
"Diet" (healthy eating) combined with cycling is starting to help shift some weight - currently 3lbs in just under a week.
And the added bonus is I love the new bike - finally exercise that's fun!GT I-Drive 5 XCR '09

Hi all,
6'2 and 19st 10 here, got my weight down from just over 23st so now I'm just trying to introduce some more physical side. Was quite into mountain biking a few years back so I would love to get back on the bike! beats mundane exercising inside anyday!
Started a thread here: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12696322 to ask for advice on bikes, if anyone here has any tips id really appreciate it.
Thanks all. I'll be sure to post my progress0 -

May as well chip in with myself.
I'm 45 this year. Back in November I took up cycling again and was a huge 16.38 stone (229.4 lb). Since then I have got it down to 15.54 stone (217.6 lb) mainly through cycling and changing my diet.
My problem is I am Diabetic, cant cycle to work as its waaaay too far and I love my chilli con carne and curry  . Instead of crisps I now eat a tuna salad and just recently I have begun using an exercise bike when I get home from work.
After losing 1.8lb in a week a fornight ago I decided last week I'd go for the magical loss of 2lb last week but despite cycling almost 10 miles a night on that bloody exercise bike I only lost 0.8lb.
Now I'm beginning to think what more can I do? I gave it my all last week and in return I lost the lowest amount of weight! Pretty upset about it tbh

Don't get down hearted, it may be that you haven't lost more weight because you have built muscle. Too many poeple get hung up on the weight loss, it is fat loss you should conentrate on. Are your clothes feeling looser? Dod you take photos or measurements?
May be worth doing this if you haven't already....Cheers

Thanks for the reply Rykard. I'd love to think that its muscle build up but tbh I'm so far from that point in my weight loss that I'd be a bigger liar than a politician to do so. Admittedly trousers do feel a little looser, but since having the huge hernia operation its a little bit tricky to measure accurately waist/stonach size.
I guess I should have taken photo's but its been hard to come to terms with the mass of weight I have and looking in the mirror is upsetting, let alone taking a photo lol.KungFooSausage

Don't forget that when you first start to exercise your body burns energy faster to compensate but then becomes used to it and doesn't need to use as much to achieve the same results. Also you will now be burning fat but building muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. I'm not losing any weight at all according to the scales but my clothes are a lot looser than they were 6 months ago. Don't get hung up on the numbers.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

About 2 months back I hit the scales and weighed in at 16' 4 which is the most I've ever weighed. I'm 5' 10 and was 30 at the time. I've been putting weight on year on year since I started uni at around 11 stone in 1997.
Each year I've had the urge to jump back on the bike, but I've found reasons to put it off... Most recently I decided that I didn't want my bike to get stolen here in the part of Liverpool I call home. I decided to stop with the excuses.. I reasoned that a bike is better of getting used and maybe stolen than gathering dust in a garage at my parents... I picked the bike up and took it in to the park.
The bug bit hard and I've since returned to Rivington for a succesful climb to the top for the first time in 12 years and a few trips out to explore Delamere.
I've changed my diet a bit but haven't given up on too much that I enjoy. Less chips, less drinking in the week, more salads... As a result weight loss hasn't come too quickly and I've not really placed too much emphasis on personal goals with regards to weight. My goal has been to have fun and after rocking through an overgrown singletrack trail on Saturday with a s**t eating grin on my face, I can definately say I'm having that... Regardless of my lack of targets with weight I'm now down to 15' 10.
The difference has been in my mobility. I'm not feeling as tired moving and I'm getting a bit of the spring back in my step.
Just wish I could do the ride to work.... 40 mile round trip is a bit too far yet.0 -
Think i'll join in here too guys...
Im AJ, 25 years old and 6' 2".
I used to race professionally (BMX & MTB) when I was 14 – 17, until I had an accident causing damage to my back which put me out of riding and training for a few months. During this time I also passed my driving test, and the group of lads I rode with all split up and went to uni etc. I sold my GT, stripped my BMX and stopped riding bike for years due to lack of interest and picking up an interest in cars.
In Novemeber 2008 at my heaviest (around 18 1/2 Stone) I purchased a bike, which I started to ride at weekends. Enjoyed it and got straight back into the swing of things. Surprisingly I still had some talent, though I wasn’t really riding enough to shift much weight!
In the summer of 2009, I Started to ride to and from work, it’s around 3.5 miles each way, downhill on route to work and uphill coming home. I actually loved doing this; it was so much better than the bus and quicker. Although my initial idea was it only being a summer thing, I found myself still riding come December, and even in the snow (my area is hilly so buses wont run) my bike was getting me to and from work.
In January 2010 my diet change dramatically, I only eat junk food on Saturday nights now, and eat very healthy during the week, lots of fruit, tuna and salad. No crisps, chocolate or fizzy drink, or beer! I treat at the weekend which works well for me, I know if I really fancy a pizza I only have a few days to wait, I’m not trying to cut it out totally.
I now ride my bike to and from work 5 days a week and go out on weekends too, Im totally in love with the sport again, and get so much pleasure from being watched and cheered on at my local riding spot as I fly through the air, knowing how big I used to be.
Since really going for it in January I now weight 15st 10lbs which I am very happy with, my aim was 15st 7lbs by end of June, so i’ve got 3lbs to go.0 -
I am also going to Join Fat Club. I did look for a say hello section but couldn't see one.
A little history, I was never skinny and a an ex rugby player was nver a small build, any way since an small issue in rugby which caused me to be unable to play I piled on the pounds, tried diets but never true to myself and never lost weight.
Now my second child is on its way I need to sort my health out. I won't go swimming, i won;t take my top off in public due to my size.
Years on to 2010 at my heaviest i have ever been 17.7lbs I decided i would do some thing about it.
My current bike is a Specialized Hard Rock pro disc 2010 in its std form.
I have been riding for a whole of 2 weeks, I had a weigh in today at work and within that two weeks i have lost 4lbs.
My iphone has played a large role to track my rides and keep an diary of my eating.
So i will post my efforts as and when I got some new dataDavid

Hi MTB-Dave
Can I ask how you use your iPhone to keep track your rides etc?
I am returning to cycling after over 10years of piling on loads of weight I am still struggling to get out on my bike as I am a bit worried about what a 6'4" 24st man looks like on a bike  I will get over it though!
Good luck with your quest

Up til about 3+ years ago, I was semi-skinny 91/2-10 stone, but due to health problems, piled on weight.
6 months ago I lost about 1 stone (was nearly 17 stone) over 1 month using an exercise bike, but the sheer boredom of sitting in a room pedalling ruined it for me.
Anyway, picking up a MTB this week and hitting the roads hard!
Looking to get to 11 stone ASAP0 -
Hey all, I'll sign in here.
I used to ride downhill years ago on a GT Avalanche. One night it was stolen and I never recovered. Went to college, got a job, got a wife, got a kid.... its now 12 years since the bike was stolen and about 4.5 stone since I really was happy with the way I've felt.
Fitness on the otherhand is something I adapt to well. Earlier this month I bought a 29er. I fell in love with it almost 3 seconds after i started to ride. I've been hitting the trails hard since early June now and am already down about .5 stone just on account of eating better and staying away from processed food and sugary drinks. Also diet anything is a nono. Just natural food, the way it should be eaten.
When I first started I was able to do 1 lap of the local 2.5 km path, with a 4km round trip from and to the conservation area which houses the paths.
There are 3 paths in general, 2 require a massive climb, 1 is a 4km endurance run over all types of terrain followed by a pretty fun downhill single track section.
Last night, about 2 weeks after I started, I rode all 3 paths in one night, with 2 heavy climbs done by foot, and one fully done on the pedals, followed by 2 endurance runs.
At one point I noticed I was standing on my pedals during the downhill for more speed and agility.
For a big guy its pretty awesome to hit those trails hard, and I look forward to it every night as my fitness comes back to me.
Current goal is 16 stone, and a 235km competitive trail ride in September 2011.30 / 6'5" 21.5 Stone
Current Ride: Norco Jubei II 20100 -
