Now that would be nice! Seems I have spurred the wife into action and she asked me to renw her gym membership for her birthday. She used to like doing 2 classes each morning and wants to return to that system.
I am having less luck finding a bike. Last night I ordered a Kona King Kahuna. This morning I got a message saying there were none in the country.
Trust me to want a MTB at the same time as all the stock changes!

Ian, have you spoken to JE James in Rotherham? They've got loads of stock and quite a lot of it is reduced in price. Tell them what you need and I'm sure they'll have something.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

also my weight is once again falling from my body lol. i just feel amazing at the moent. not sure why tho0 -
long may the good vibes last mate.
My pc crashed big time today meaning I'm down a hard drive (and my primary OS). Couldnt be arsed fixing it so I swapped one pain in the arse for another and went on a long bike ride.
My longest ride to date was 26 miles. I've just finished a 42 mile ride! Pretty happy with that as I've not done that ride since I had a 28 inch waist! - Millennia ago!0 -
NIce mileage. I've done 24 off-road this evening and after a day or two rest I'm hoping to get the Roadie out and hit 50+. Might even see if I can make it to the coast )1998 Marin Hawk Hill

Cheers mate. You ever use the mtb on the road? Notice much of a difference between it and the roadie? I've been so peeved by inconsiderate dog owners that I've just taken to the roads this week on the mtb. Had 3 ridiculously close calls being cut up by drivers tonight tho' so maybe dogs arent quite so bad...0

I used to use the MTB on the road (before I got the Scott), and the difference is staggering. If you're using any MTB on tarmac I would recommend investing in some slick tyres for it and spend 15 mins swapping them over depending on where you're going to ride, or at least get some semi-slicks if you're going to mix tarmac and dirt in the same ride (careful not to use them on anything too muddy tho....). Today I rode to my mate's on road before we went off-road and I averaged about 14mph for 3 miles, on the Road bike even an unfit bloke like me can average 18mph+ for a couple of hours.
Ask Rob Mafia about the difference in Tyres, we did 20+ miles on tarmac last week and he was on grippy MTB tyres but has put his semi-slicks on since then so I'm sure he's already noticed how much less rolling resistance there is.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

Thats quite a difference. But even 14mph is really good - and I'm nowhere near your league yet. 2 months ago I was about 6mph over 18 miles of muddy old train tracks and I've now got that to about 9mph. Today I was about 10mph over the 42 road miles.
I dont know... perhaps I derive some masochistic pleasure from making it more difficult and thinking along the lines of 'if its harder then its better for me'. Although it would certainly open up the possibility of having more epic rides.
Ok need help here because I'm clueless... I was looking for slicks and I just dont understand the sizing and how to make sure they will fit my bike.
This is my bike...

I was looking at this tyre but I dont understand how the 1.3 or 1.6 relates to my 2 (and indeed what those numbers refer to)
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Continental_Sport_Contact_MTB_Tyre_With_Tube/5360008376/#more

Tyre sizing on your bike is 26 x.2.0. The 26 is the wheel diameter in inches (standard adult MTB size) and the 2.0 is the width of the tyre. Most generic rims will take a range of tyre sizes between 1.5 and 2.5(ish) inches so if you get those tyres you should be fine with the 1.6. Don't forget to put the tubes in that come with the tyres when you swap them over tho, my Brother recently changed to slicks for commuting and tried to stuff a 2.1 inner tube into a 1.5 tyre. Needless to say he ended up buying smaller tubes......
OH yeah, and Road riding pressures are a lot higher than MTB pressures. You'll be looking to put at least 60psi in those. My Roadie currently runs with 100psi in the front and 110psi in the rear, with these being dropped by about 10% in the wet, but on MTB rims I wouldn't recommend going that high.

Well its a learning curve as well as a training one!
I certainly didnt think about the inner tubes or was aware that you could get pressure guages on standard pumps these days.
Cheers again.
And I'm from Edinburgh so not much chance of going for a ride with you guys unfortunately.0 -

Afternoon. Barnsley. I cycle to Donny via the old railway line that follows the Dearne. Do a 180 at the Motorbike shop on the main road, after a bacon buttie (sorry) and cup of tea I normally ride to Langsett Res, up the America bit, then Mickledon and Cutgate to the top. I'm nearly in tears when I get there, but the view is exceptional. The old Kikapu is feeling the pace a bit through now.0 -

(concious we're hijacking the thread here a bit)
The TPT runs below Barnsley. I pick it up at Worsbrough and ride up to Ecklands Bridge. From the bridge there is a steep ascent over Hartcliff Brow and then head for Gilbert Hill - teh road brings you out at the entrance for Langsett Res.
For Donny, I go East on the TPT and follow it through Wombwell, Darfield, Bolton, Mexbrough, Sprotbrough. The trail follows the old Barnsley to Hull railway I think. Very flat 30 odd e/w.0 -
Don't worry about hijacking, it's all related
I've ridden the TPT from Worsbrough a couple of times, always got as far as Silkstone Common and turned back before it started getting hilly. Would be nice to have a go at making it all the way to Langsett tho1998 Marin Hawk Hill

It goes through to Dunford, you have to turn off for Langsett. If your targeting Cut Edge, then this will be nothing as it's vertical and fistsize+ underneath. A true test to clear (I haven't! managed it yet)0 -

Hi,
the critical thing is the top tube and the head tube. Both should be as long as possible. If I am going to spend around £1000 on a bike I really don't want to just make do.
In a way, I have limited myself going for a 29er. But if you read through the tall MTB forums they really are the way to go for a taller rider.
I sat on a Gary Fisher bike a few weeks ago and it was great, they all have the same geometry. But to make it feel right for me I would need £300-£400 of mods. Probelm is that my inside leg is standard but my upper body is long, making most MTB's feel cramped up.

There's the difference then, my inside leg is over 37 inches so I sometimes feel like I'm reaching on mine but I've got used to it now and I've changed the seat position on my Hardtail to match the measurements on the Spesh.1998 Marin Hawk Hill
