    Hi,
there are a couple of Kona Hoss 20 inch bikes going on Ebay at the moment. One in Wales one in North Yorkshire. Both as new.

If they had been 22 inch models I would be jumping at the chance, but they may suit somebody on here.

    Hi,
just popped a milestone. I have been saying to a few people that I needed to break the 30 mile barrier.

I went out today, I sort of knew what route I was going to take but just eventually went wherever the road took me in the end.

I came home and mapped it on MAPMYRIDE and foud I had done 31.03 miles in 2hrs 15mins 45 secs.

I am finding that it is not my fitness that is challenging me to do that distance, it is the back pain. I have to stop every 5 miles and whilst I am drinking do some back stretching exercises.

Got to go an walk the dogs now :(

  • . . . It would probably be worthwhile contacting the manufacturer via email and asking them what the weight limit for your bike is. Never heard of a manufacturer specifying such - but it would be interesting to find out.
Got the e-mail away today to Kona UK's technical department. Hopefully they'll be able to give me an answer or redirect the query to Kona HQ.

What worked for me was the "no food is a sin" approach, It may not work for everyone though and I would suggest people take the time to learn what works for them, Its what I spend 6 months doing to be fair, I once told someone what I was eating, They followed my lead and put weight on, needless to say IT was my fault lol

Avoid High fat/sugar stuff then ensure that your Cals Out is always MORE than your Cals In and the weight will come off.

  • @briar - grats on the milestone - great feeling mate! ;)

@bfg - heck of a challenge mate. I'd love to say yes but too much life issues going on as well that need sorting. But all the best to you!

@silver - good stuff mate - keep us posted.

@gb155 - welcome to the club mate. Not had the chance to look at the links yet but but what a phenomenal journey you're on. Well played. What bike were you on and at what peak weight - as its all part of that question... how much weight can these bikes take?

As for me - had a cracking weekend cycling around some mountains in the Scottish highlands and then taking a trip south to Glentress - with an overnight stopover in the pit of hell courtesy of food poisoning! ;) Only had about 20 hours sleep in the last 10 days so time to pop some sleeping pills, get some well earned kip and give those muscles a chance to grow!

    KISS,

    Keep
    It
    Simple
    Stupid (not offence to you)

Keep your fat intake under 70g a day, sugar under 30g a day and make sure you use more Cals then you take in and it will fall off, not always as fast, it will slow but keep going doing that and it will carry on.

  • gb155 is spot on. tho' it does depend on the source of your anxiety and how serious it is. If its real anxiety theres always the vallium and/or antidepressants

    If the problem is people...
I did have a gaggle of teenage girls give me unsavoury comments one day as I rode by. Should I turn around and deliver an uppercut at speed or ignore it and ride on? I chose the latter.... Since then I've been wearing my ipod and nobody bothers to shout anything since they cant get a rise out of you. Doesnt matter if you have the headphones plugged into anything or not...
And the flip side of it is that given a few years riding, they'll be throwing their phone numbers at you rather than abuse!
You can always chose a path less populated like cycle paths rather than roads, and drive out to a starting place in the countryside.

If the problem is needing someone to ride with, then check here, other sections of the site and local bike clubs as well as family and friends.

So nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I refer you to my previous comment, there's a few local guys here and all you have to do is ask.

SO........... GB155 has resolved the question of what bike, and between us we can resolve your anxiety of riding alone.

    Sorted :D

Okay will sort something out soon.

I'm on holiday second week in July so will be looking at doing something after that. The only reason I'm not doing it sooner is that I'm having to act as a bit of a carer for my parents on this holiday and I don't want to risk stuffing myself up with any injuries (however unlikely) as it'd spoil their hols.

Yeah sorry didnt mean to make it sound so off the cuff, when I started riding I thought to myself "god im so slow any local chav will be able to catch me and mug me etc etc"

Stick the earphones in and dont make eye contacted and they look for someone else, Now I wear lycra I guess they are just scared lol

If its real anxiety as mentioned there are drugs etc to help you out and if you are ever in Manchester im always happy to roll with anyone

    Hi Silver,
If you have a means to transport your bike then come up here to Selby where nobody knows you and come out for a ride with me.

I too felt self concious, I have only just been able to bring myself to ride past the pub where all my mates sit swilling beer in an afternoon just incase they are outside.

I have seen them a few times, I just pedal fast for a 100yds before the pub and until I am out of sight. I have seen them a few times, we have called each other names and I have got on with it.

The fitness curve of bike riding is very steep. I started a month ago and this month I have ridden 252 miles. I started off at 8 miles and now I have done 31 miles.

Get out and ride, your confidence will grow.

Remember "Procrastination is the thief of time".

I have the means of transport but a cylinder has gone, it doesn't have a MOT, insurance or road tax. Apart from that everything's fine!

Trains are shite between here and Selby, every couple of hours or so but it's do-able and only 15 minutes each way. Costs a bit tho, 2 singles cheaper than buying a return and £6.60 each way according to www.thetrainline.co.uk.
