  • The thing is Rob, and please don't take this the wrong way, but you didn't seem that different from so many people around my way. Yet "they" think there is nothing wrong with a "few extra pounds". Fair play to you mate - you've done it and look so much better for losing that weight. I hope this comes across the way it is meant and not as a Put-Down, because it wasn't

Well done Rob, that should score a few points with the Mrs.

I know I don't have a MTB yet but I am really starting to think seriously about that 100 mile marathon around Kielder next year.

    Is anyone deffinitely doing it?

  • Oh and Hi, i'm Deejay, 22 Stone, 5'11" and got a massive arse.

(Recently put on weight, new bike, so im taking up the biking to get it back off!)

What shorts do you guys wear? Im struggling to find some for a 46" waist. Had normal baggy shorts on earlier, and my balls were like two ferrets fighting in a bag
  • Welcome to the club dj!
Sounds like you need some lycra shorts - like something from the endura range which make them in big sizes. They also make regular shorts to go over the lycra. The dhb range at wiggle were also made in large sizes.

Before this I've just been wearing my Calvin Klein trunk style underwear and some long nike shorts - which are too big for me now - but did the job.

I've been thinking a lot about that too, but having done a relatively flat 36 mile off-road and a 42 mile in the peak district, I know how hard it is to do that kind of distance off-road and I think that 100 miles maybe a bit optimistic. The event website says that you need to have done at least a 6hr race before then and remember that it is a RACE. Don't get me wrong, I like to have something to work towards, but that........?

If you want a starting point, try the British Heart Foundation Dark Peak Challenge in the peak district in October. Last year it was 42 miles or nothing, this year there's also shorter distances available and I'm waiting for details of the routes to arrive. 42 miles took me well over 6 hours last year and I have no idea how I covered the last 10 of them, my fit mate who rode it with me didn't break into a sweat

Used that a couple of times for rides in the Peak District but the online mapping isn't accurate enough to map off-road routes properly so I stopped using it. Now I've got the road bike tho I might give it another go.

    Hi,
the best padded shorts I have got are XXL Endura lycra shorts. I cannot remeber if I got them from Wiggle or Merlin.

I am a 48 waist and the padding knocks spots off the DHB Earnly and AeroTech shorts I have got.

    Same as these

I know mate, I'm only an inch or two shorter than you.

I'm doing the same with my full suss as I did with my original Marin HT, buy a bike that I like with a good strong frame and when bits break I upgrade them. The Marin only cost me £400 ten years ago and the only original part is the frame, it's cost me almost a grand to get it to where it is tho and that's not including the original cost of the bike

i did this wth my susser bought the frame for 600 quid got a bargain. then spent a small fortune on it. and belive me there is no way ya would fuck it up lmfao 20 mm maxle up front and 12 mm rear. cost me about 2k so far but i have a bike worth about 2500 to 3 k if ya bought it new of the shelf. good thing is ya cant get my spec of the shelf lol its speced to me

this is her. built like a brick out house for a brick shit house lol. totaly love her to bits its the first time i have been able to ride a bike that feels like it will hold me

    Little update from me.

Right since doin the london to brighton i have ditch getting a lift to work every other week so am back on the bike full time for the 20 mile round trui each day for work.

Last time i posted my weight i was 139kg i am now 137kg so a loss of 2kg so i am well chuffed.
  • well played mate.
Not so good news for me... despite getting stronger, faster and having more endurance to do longer rides I've gained 2.5lb in the last week.
Hardly surprising as whenever I dont sleep (1-2 hr per night) I always gain weight and I went for about 1-2 weeks like that. Hopefully getting it sorted now with the sleeping pills.

This is an open invitation......... to all members of this forum to join me on 1st November for the Robin Hood Bike Ride 2009, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.

Registration for this event is now open. Entry fee is £10 for adults and since I did the event 2 years ago there is now a minimum sponsorship level of £50. The ride is 36 miles and although the course is not challenging, please consider that it is in November so you could be riding this distance in rain/wind/hail/snow/all of the above.......

I'll be there, and it would be nice to see others there too (yes Rob, that includes you). Regardless of your abilities, you CAN do this.

Details of the ride can be found here........ http://www.bhf.org.uk/events_and_volunt ... ps=1000438

    Challenge well and truly issued.

    Hi,
what do they do to you if you do not raise the sponsorship money?

Not sure if people know but Evans do a series of bike rides. Here is a ride in the same location.

No idea about the sponsor money, I've only done one ride with a minimum amount attached to it and I made that and then some. I've never have a problem getting people to put their hands in their pockets.

I saw the Evans ride but if I'm paying the same amount to ride at the same place I would rather be doing it to raise money for a good cause. Just my own view....

It's been very quiet in Fat Club recently. Is everyone ok?

Had a nice ride out off-road with some mates this morning and if the weather holds out I'm hoping to get out on the Roadie in the week and put in a good 3-4 hours.

It has been a bit quiet, I'm on nights and I hate nights so become somewhat of a recluse because it's just a necessary evil, managed to get out for a quick one yesterday after fittin some lovely conti double fighter 2's so broke them in a bit, they seem sweet. anyway come on dudes lets have your weigh in's for this week.
  • My weights been going up and down like a yoyo the past 2 weeks.
Lost 3lb to get below 20stone
Stopped sleeping for a week and gained 3lb
Started sleeping again and lost 3lb in 2 days
Had a cocktail party and gained 3lb

But I've kept riding constantly throughout and getting fitter, stronger and faster.
Tonight I rode for 3 hours in the hilliest direction I could find and just went exploring.

So, other than the scales, all is good! ;)
