Podium places, polka dots, stage wins. All very cool.

But it's all about the GC, baby.

    But isn't M-SR a one-day race?

I prefer to think of SCS December as the last stage of TdF. A gentle meander to the Champs Elysee. Swigging champagne. Accolades. Cheering crowds etc

    Touche, sir. :)

In that case, don't forget the Fignon-LeMond finish. :)

Every race is a one day race when you get to the final day

Of course, if you're far enough ahead for it not to matter......

    Excellent. That's more like it.

Here's what I've got planned for the next 5 weeks:

Long weekend away with family this weekend. No riding Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun.

But half-day on Monday might be an opportunity to make up some of those lost miles.

Then at least one more curtailed weekend (in terms of riding opportunities) for shopping, xmas fairs etc.

    No extended commutes during Dec.

At least one non-bike commute for works parties.

But if it looks like there might be some real competition I can put in some serious miles during xmas week.

    Bring it!

Given that I would have to cycle to the Aberdeen and back to make some sort of dent in your lead, that's not much of an olive branch, is it? :)

If we put him on a fixed, and make him cycle backwards, the miles come off, right?

Chapeau to all of you taking part in this little healthy competition, it really is very impressive the amount of miles you've all clocked up.

Now just imagine if you could claim the 20p per mile tax rebate on commuting miles, not only would that be a nice cash bonus but think of the health benefits to the nation, that would get more people cycling which would make the roads a safer place for cyclist and might just encourage more money to be spent on dedicated cycle lanes and smooth road surfaces.

    If only!

Silly question - but how do you guys know all this mileage data? Do you have a diary or something.
  • I have a spreadsheet at work, but its not that hard - its 35 miles a day when I ride in, so you just add it in. Will be easier next year starting from 0, because you won't need to record it anywhere other than SCstats

I know how far my commute is (cycle computer, or google maps if you want approximate). If I cycle to work by I add the miles

If you sort by monthly target minus miles done, it doesn't differentiate between the highly motivated and determined people who have surpassed their target and the slackers who haven't

Could you instigate a sign convention, or was it intended as a measure of prediction accuracy :D

    Thanks

Oh and by the way, thanks for all the effort you put into this.

Yep if you use you bicycle for work journeys other than commuting you can claim a rebate on the mileage from the tax man, current rate is 20p per mile.

Jeez people don't you read all those incredibly important notices from the tax office :D

I started off using Nokia sport tracker, then switched to a spreadsheet for extra information, then needed that data available anywhere so imported the sheet into Google docs, simples!

Yeah - it was meant to allow those who can't match the 1000 mile a month guys the chance to be top at something, that being their ability to match their predicted monthly mileage. I wouldn't get too hung up on it - it may not be there for much longer.

Hmm, I thought this was like mileage allowance for cars.
i.e. Your employer could pay you (up to a maximum of) 20p/mile you cycled for business purposes.

Porgy, you might want to have a look at your numbers. I'm not saying you didn't do 2345 miles yesterday, but you did say your bike was broken and, um, well.........

    Fixed now.

Although I am back in the saddle as from today it's unlikely i'll manage much more then 30 or 40 miles a day. :?

Did I see something at the top of the list last night? Or was the 19 miles on a tandem+trailer solo doing things to my head (and can I claim double miles for that since I was riding two people's worth of bikes  )
