  • Looks good, and as always, much appreciated, as I'm sure you will find out soon enough...

I know you've got rid of climb ratio, but could we still have height gain on? IIRC there were 18 people with height gain recorded, which was more than a third of the regular updaters. Those of us who don't live in the south-east have far less chance of racking up monster mileages, so a 'king of the mountains' column is good. A metre gained is as much a measure of how much / what type of cycling you have been doing as a mile ridden.

Also, is the intention with the type of riding to add categories such as "club rides" "mountain biking" "training rides" "racing" etc and be able to view tables by that, or is it just an individual record of each ride you can look back on? I'm just thinking this could become a useful training/recording tool, rather than just a banter generation machine!

Salsa - thanks for the input. I take your point about adding a climb factor, but the arguments against it when I raised this a few weeks ago were that it's a miles comparison, not many use it, it adds clutter to the table, and once established, the ratio doesn't alter much. Add to that the additional effort in including the add / remove / display of climbs (by year) and it became a pragmatic decision to drop it. Sorry about that.

Ride types - whatever you want. Everyone starts with Commute by default; I've added Commute In, Commute Out, Training, School Trip to mine. You can define a ride however you like (50 characters max) but it remains your definition. I had actually considered adding a Compare By Ride Type later on; it would either rely on users adding a matching ride def, or the awkward but more satisfying use of shared definitions. Not for now tho. I reckon my wife is convinced I've developed an internet pr0n habit, so I'm happy to let it run as it stands for now, bug fixes aside.

Like many others on here I have no idea if the reworking of the site took 10 minutes or 10 days.*

However long it took, you have our ongoing appreciation and gratitude.

    Chapeau!

    Well done and thank you.

May I claim the honour of being the first one to f**k it up

What would happen, for instance, if some idiot entered his (or her) milage in the ride type box.

Could he (or she) delete or change this erroneous entry, or will it stand forever as a monument to ineptitude?

That would be an act of monumental stupidity, to be left as a warning to others. Valid point tho - if users can stuff it up, they will.

It'll probably disappear later today through a combination of smoke & mirrors, & a quick delete query that runs when no-one is looking.

Just totting up the stats tally this for this year

apart from my 6600 miles I've clocked 83 wet commuting days and 135 days windy enough to count as gale force, grrrrr!

Hence the Windshire location on my profile, grrrr!

annoyingly that means I had more dry days than wet this year, well it didn't feel like it, grrrr!

  • Thats 135 days when you probably had a fairly easy ride in one direction at least! Granted I'd rather have no wind at all than be blown in one way and having to ride like hell the other!

    Hi CiB,

Love the new look etc. - good work. I can't seem to update though. I'm getting:
    Server Error in '/ASPStats' Application.

startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
    Parameter name: startIndex

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
    Parameter name: startIndex

I've tried it at home as well as work, but get the same problem. Sorry to be a pain, and it could well be a user error here!

Hi RTA. I can't do anything during working hours, but will have a look tonight.

To anyone reporting errors, it will help enormously if you can provide enough information for me to able to know what I'm looking for.

As a minimum pls include what you are updating, any values in the various text boxes, which OS (Mac, XP, W7, Linux etc), and browser you're using.

There is a note on the old stats page explaining the new version that does state that the date field populated from the pop-up doesn't fill properly in the Chrome and Safari browsers, and that until I can suss this pls use another browser.

    Thanks

Hi CiB, don't suppose you can do anything about this but our proxy blocks the new address because ' "Proxy Avoidance" content is forbidden by policy '.
I get a similar kind of error when using my phone for the internet connection "You are not able to access this service because Content control is in place" (from online.vodafone.co.uk )

Haven't tried it at home yet though.

I'd get onto Vodafone and ask them why they see fit to stop you viewing a page full of numbers.

Content Control suggests that keywords / phrases are being blocked. Perhaps we could ask BentMikey, essexian and BollockBreath to request a name change through me to avoid those poor little souls at Vodafone from feeling the need to stop us corrupting the nation's morals. Although if it is these keywords / phrases being blocked you'll never see this message.

Didn't think about the browser - I'm using Chrome on XP, but I'm trying to add figures only.

They've blocked the site from work , so I'll use IE when I get back home.

Good point well made. As the content is pretty much what it was in the old version, maybe the picture is the issue - it's got a lot of skin tone etc. I'll take it out over the w/e to see if that improves matters.

Any chance of making the side bar a top bar?

The page is now wider than I normally have browser windows, you see...

[Edit] Also, can the YTD column be click-to-sortable?[/Edit]

Now then I need to do 362 miles this month to drag my sorry arsed YTD mileage to 7000, might not sound like a lot but come on, it's Dec. how many parties etc.

I see a couple of you will be hitting 8000 Chapeau chaps, outstanding work.

It's very touch and go whether I make 8,000 miles - rough calculations suggest that I'll have to persuade Mrs CJ to let me go on at least three 1.5/two-hour rides over the Christmas period.
