So, you lot are all happy to "compete" for a podium place?

No one with ambition at all?

    It's lonely up here.

Speaking of which, when will be the last day to enter stats for 2009?
I mean you don't want someone coming along in april and adding 10,000 miles to their 2009 stats, that would be silly.

you should be able to enter stats as an existing user on the last day, but I reckon no-one new should be able to enter as from say 1 December, then the final month's competition should be clear - speaking of which I really need to get back on the bike!

Good point. I reckon a a couple of days into the new year should be enough for anyone to get their final totals in; after that 2009's stats will be locked down. That's the completely arbitrary cut-off then - all 2009 stats to be entered by midnight on Jan 3rd, the Sunday evening.

Someone bursting in during the Christmas week signing up with 11,200 miles wouldn't be too popular either. No new sign-ons permitted after mid-December. Any opposing views?

If I don't forget I'll add a message to that effect on there.

Yeah. Of course, next year is a whole different story.

    But what about this year?

    Nobody interested?

Should I just sit up and coast to the line?

    McM,

How far do you commute each day? Or do you not have a car and cycle absolutely everywhere? Those are impressive stats you have there.

Yep, sit up coast and take it easy  In fact I'd stay off the bike completely

It's not a huge commute, consistency is the key. We're a one-car family. I think I've driven to work twice in almost 2 years.

My shortest commute is 15km each way, ie 30 km per day. But until recently I'd extend that 2 or 3 times during the week. There are some cool country lanes up my way. That would bring me up to 40-50km per day.

On top of this, there's Thurs nights with the Jolly Wheelers. In the summer this is on the road and comes in at anything from 50 to 80km. In winter it's off road so closer to 30km.

Then there's Sat mornings off road another 30km and Sunday mornings on road which can be anything from 50 to 120km.

    It all adds up.

Shouldn't it be 1.62? (Not that it makes any substantive difference.)

    Google says 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres.

Seriously though. I do find it hard to believe I am where I am on the stats table.

I reckon there's a good chance there are plenty of others, maybe even readers of this forum, whose mileage dwarfs what I've been doing.

They just haven't gotten round to regularly updating the table.

    Pants! So it does.

I think GTV said somewhere that he does about 19,000 miles a year. Which is insane. :o

It's Ok, but can get a bit hairy when there are 3-4 groups of 6 or more all going at different speeds. We tend to vary between through and off, and having a pace line with the front runner setting the pace for 2 laps, which is bloody hard work. Last Thursday I averaged 20.9 mph over the hour, and that was with being dropped twice and having a pootle to get my breath back  The cars can be a bit of a pain pulling out on you, but we've not had very many problems. The great thing is it's nice and flat'ish, although there is a bit of hill that's good for sprints.

Cheers. There'll be none of that stuff! Just want a decent route where I can keep up a steady pace without having to start/stop for lights .

Porgy, you might want to have a look at your numbers. I'm not saying you didn't do 2345 miles yesterday, but you did say your bike was broken and, um, well.........

Mcmull, coast to the line? You've only "won" one month so far. Best see about december eh?
