Good idea. 20-85 should do it. :P

No. If you're expecting to receive a favourable tariff because you're older than us, forget it, sunshine. You do enough miles already. :)

  • For what its worth, I like the height gain - though it seems I'm in the minority! 40 miles on a canal towpath is still 40 miles, agreed, but it doesn't really take any effort to do it, I take some pride in my climb ratio being highest (backed up a fairly reasonable mileage) and it would be good to have a 'king of mountain' 'jersey' too as well as just distance, because those of us in hillier places can't just pop out and bang in some huge mileages (not that I live in THAT hilly a place). Whenever you look at a walking or cycling route, it usually shows distance and height gain, because the two are the main factors in what you are doing. There are only 10 or so people putting height stuff in regularly, so why not leave us to it! I'm sure if more people had gps's/computer mapping, then more would join in.

Happy to see the goal go though, my goal is to cycle as much as possible, not to fix a number to it!
  • I think it's a perfectly reasonable suggestion and I'm horrified that you would think it's just a mean spirited attempt on my part to artificially improve the look of my otherwise meagre efforts ....

    Shame on you cjcp

  • Aha - just checked the stats and that doesn't look right at all - Lordy - I wish ....

And now I'm really confused :

All I've done is add my miles in for wk comm Oct 26th and Nov 2nd and it looks like the 2 have been added together?????

Checking October's figures only the wk comm 12th & 19th are added together????

I'm sure I've done something wrong so if someone would please enlighten me - bearing in mind I am old and exceptionally thick ......

Don't worry Chris'll be along in a moment. Maybe you could post your figures in this thread as they are supposed to look - for clarity.
  • crossed the 6000 mile line this morning. Could be on for a record 7000 this year. :P
  • Hi Porgy :

My numbers are exactly as the stats sheet ask :

    227 for wk comm Oct 26th &
    180 for wk comm Nov 2nd :

If you click on my Nov total it calls up the Oct wk comm date and the Nov wk comm date??

My Nov to date total should be 180 and my Oct date (allowing for me entering my numbers late) should read 706

    Anyone .......

    Did someone shout?

Without looking directly into the vortex called the Stats DB (can't access it at work, luckily), I suspect that it's because you added your mileage in lumps on Nov 2nd - I can see 262, 217 and 227 miles added on Nov 2nd and allocated to previous weeks, followed by180 miles on Nov 4th. The overall total is correct 706 + 180 = 886; it's just possible that you've exposed a flaw in the allocation of miles added over the cusp of the month but allocated to previous weeks. Maybe.

It's because the underlying idea when it first arose was that stats was a weekly driven affair and by design stats entered in the week that runs into the next month were allocated to the new month. To overcome that issue, around month end / start it uses the actual date of entry to decide which month miles should go int. You added yours retrospectively, which is why it's errr not exactly as you expected it to be. Looks like a) you've fallen foul of this and b) no-one else have spotted it, so stop complaining...

I'll take a look tonight pending comedy on the TV / red wine availability / just talking to the wife (radical eh?) / checking the bike over for some problem that's stopped me riding in today and therefore ceding a place to Porgy. The pain of that - it burns deep. I can probably reallocate the miles correctly, just this once though :)

CiB, that seems to be exactly what it does. I entered stats for this week and last week only, and it's allocated all the miles to November, which rather flatters my November milage!

It's no c0ck up, just a quirk of how the stats are used compared with how I envisaged it being used back in May when it became a web interface. It needs a bit of a revamp to resolve this sort of thing, and a few other quirks that lurk under the surface.

Instead of keeping my position I might be lucky to stay in the top-20 this month.

This week I am mainly going to Amsterdam, and ironically, will be doing no cycling whatsoever.

When I come back I'll be interested to see if I am still in the Top 20.
