I tried it July. Cam eup short - somewhere round the 980 mark, I think. Damn near broke me.

I think I could do it - would involve a quick 60 mile spin this Saturday.
I'm not really bothered enough to, though :)

I gave up on this - computer packed in during a rain storm and I was tired of changing it between fixie, roadie and MTB.

Suffice to say, by a guesstimate, I will do around 12,000 miles again this year all told.

CJCP - surely you could have squeezed another 20 miles out, or was it not really in your mind at the time?

I can't recall precisely why I came up short. I think I ran out of days and was already knocking up extra miles in the Park after work. See, a standard week in the summer yields only 140 miles, so about 560 a month. July included one near-300 mile week in an effort to reach the magic figure. Think that finished me off. The Tour de France got in the way of weekend more mileage.

Hmm, annoyingly the past two weeks have been 4-day weeks. Else I'd've been past the 1000 mile mark. Ho hum.

My GPS has a mount fixed on all 3 regularly used bikes, takes all of a couple of seconds to attach and no wires/recalibration necessary. Means the data is quite easy to access too, and of course, well, its a GPS, so it can tell me where to go too. The bike computer is dead (well, assuming you can afford a bike GPS that is, granted they are quite pricy)

stay away from the hills ITB, you are almost exactly 2 Everests from sea level ahead of me at the moment which might just be doable, the moment you start racking the altitude up though its over!

I stopped filling in the alt. it was just too boring, basically it's 1350ft a day not including the 2ft or so from the London leg, that's just the commute if you include the sportives i've completed this year it's way up there.

To dull even for me, however on my own spreadsheet that started all this silliness I do record basic weather and sometime avg / max HR

I am tantalisingly short of 1000 this month : my week plan will have me stranded on 986 unless I do a 70 or 80 miler on Saturday instead of my 50 ...... and I did miss 4 days of riding with that blasted trip to New York but I don't suppose whining about that will do any good......

  • well i've added to list i'm my 4 mile around trip will have me racing up the places...

only be counting big green journeys as well I can't be bothered for the rest.
  • "Maths isn't my strong point, but why don't you do 65 miles on Saturday instead of 50? "

Yes yes yes : I know I know : it's just that if I make Saturday a much longer ride I may need to drop a couple of commuting miles to give myself a bit of a rest to make it a proper outing especially if the weather forecast is accurate and it chucks it down ......

Be nice to do it - though I have absolutely no idea why .......

I think it's going to have to be the Tour de Wiltshire again :):):) [/quote]

Ah the club night skews my stats somewhat, 60 miles on a Tuesday evening kills the rest of the week. I'm aiming for 300 miles this week, which may have me joining the ITB dodgy knee brigade by next Monday

Oh no just realised that with the new inclusion of Mr bentmikey I have slipped from my nice comfortable 9th to 10th, better get my skates on!

I managed the 1000 in a month last year in July but then again that did include an end to end so not surprising really

You think that's bad - I'm now in 11th, with my coveted top ten place 572 miles away.

true but I've no idea as I don't normally have bike comps and my pervious jobs have ment any thing from 40+ miles to barely a mile, depending on the day.

and job is very new so be ( vaguely ) intresting to see the milage I clock up on the big green.

Soooo, looks like Mcmullej, Aidy, Rich and GTV are the early front runners for the 2010 title.

@R_T_A - I feel your pain. I can see myself slipping off the podium as I hae a couple of business trips in the next couple of months. With Rich "Mark Beaumont" 158 around, a week off the bike does me no favours.

Don't count me out either, I only started full time in June  before that it was about twice a month on average.

I disagree - he needs to rift himself ragged. No knee injury was ever made worse by continually hopping on one leg whilst holding a bag of cement.

You too Rich - I hope you are taking unacceptable risks in wet and greasy weather.
