Oh yes, you'll be glad to know I'm ragging myself rigid old chap, and taking all sorts of risks  It would appear the grim reaper just doesn't want me yet, I'm too young and beautiful to be taken out of this mortal world

WT...? You take a few days off with the family and come back to a load of activity on this thread. I thought it was slowly petering out, save for the few diehards. Glad it's not.
Hello all. Porgy - what's you up to? You were a distant memory a fortnight ago and here you are up my trumpet nearly. Go back to being ill / saving yourself for next year. Strewth - youth of today eh? Can't trust the buggers to stay still these days.
So:
Last year's YTD v this year's? Sounds easy; probably isn't. I'll have a look at adding that.
Climb stats - there's mention of them being a bit dull 2 pages ago. I agree with that, which is why the suggestion of extending the Climb Ratio a while ago was never followed through. What's the view? Personally I'd happily drop the climb stats - it makes the table clutterred, esp on small screens / limited screen res. I'd rather drop it; same goes for the monthly target too TBH. Less is more in my world (except when it comes to doing more miles than Porgy).
Going back to the original plan (c) ITB of "Who's Done The Most Miles" would be a good move IMHO. I need to attack the web page anyway before mid-December otherwise it'll all go astray as we get to to the year-end period. It wasn't supposed to still be going 8 months on from when it kicked off. There's a bit of PPM scheduled over the next month or so, which looks like a good time to thin it out a bit or add more to it if that's what we want.
Shout now for your preferences, to be incorporated as we roll into the new year:-
Add Previous Year's mileage to the array
Lose the climb figures
Lose the monthly target
Unexpected encounters with Girls On Horses.
Land Rover Sightings - Series III & lower only
Other suggestions (Readers Wives maybe...)
Etc
Edit - I'm pondering adding a log-in for updates but not for simple viewing of the core stats. As above, I'll take the most vocal posts as my guide on this, unless they differ from my opinion obviously. Pip pip.0 -

+1 for the changes. I'm only interested in mileage per week/month/year and where I stand in the yearly total.
I don't know how easy the following would be < I can hear the IT geeks beginning to breathe in >, but...
is there any way of having a month by month comparison in case you want to check whether you are up or down on where you were at that point the year before?

A few votes for simplifying it then, duly noted.cjcp wrote:is there any way of having a month by month comparison in case you want to check whether you are up or down on where you were at that point the year before?
Should be able to pull that together, along with the prev YTD figs. Leave it with me.0 -
For what it's worth - I've never been interested in climb and monthly targets means very little to me. So simplified with last year's as a comparison is my vote too!
Cheers Chris - and have a couple of days rest before you get back on the bike eh? 8)0 -

OMG, it's beginning to feel like work
We won't put it into a dashboard for like-for-like comparison, and make up something about the economic climate clashing with Saturn's rings causing the 2010 stats drop?

Good idea for simplifying it. Removing climb/monthly target will be good. And anyone above me (as I've dropped another place to 12th )Giant Escape R1

+1 for simplifying.
although I would also like to see commuter v leisure miles.
I think that the simplest way of doing this would be to enter your "standard commute" i.e. mine being 11.5 miles. then each time you update you are asked how many commutes you have done, how many additional commuting miles and how many additional leisure/training miles. would simplify the update process too as you wouldn't have to keep on going back and forth updating the weekly totals.0 -
I'm not with you SoL. Updates take just a click to the updates page, enter you r miles and hit the submit button. That's it.
Nice idea about splitting commutes & other mileage, but it could lead to multiple categories - commutes, leisure, sportivs, TTs, Etape etc. Again - I'll take a look at what it might involve. The message seems to be though that we want to keep it simple.0 -
I like just adding in total miles.
When weather is decent, my commute can vary, so would not have a "standard" distance, so then having to add in "x" standard commutes, plus working out the additional miles would be a pain.
However, happy to go along with whatever you decide.

What do you think this is, the road forum?0 -
I don't have a standard commute either - it depends what location I'm working at on any day - and which route I decide to take - there's a difference of 5 miles between the various routes.
I quite like the simplicity of just adding the miles to the total0
