Well just like to say hello guys, I have decided to join in the fun. Mainly as it will make me cycle more and give me a target to reach, so well done for it.

I have put in my milage done so far on the Tricross, I have been using it a little over a month now. Looking forward to reaching up the charts in the near future, well as long as the Scottish weather will allow it.

Welcome Mr Wallace. It'll make you cycle more that's a given. Enjoy the fun.

Just a question or two..... Can the weekend miles on my MTB be counted in the stats or does it have to be on the commute only, be it straght in/home or extra miles done home. Would weekend miles only count if on the commuter bike (have used MTB and Tricross for commute and may switch between them).

Just to clarify, guess the answer will be in the thread but cant be bothered trolling through 50 pages!!!

16 Day straight on the commute now, guess that not that great as I am sure many do it all the time all year round, but most I have done in a row, now am very reluctant to break it!!

Let the fight commence!! Pity i left it till now to join in, as I think I could give some of you boys and girls a run for your spondoolies.

Add the lot; commuting, trips to the shops, kids to school, sportivs, charity bike rides, anything. It's Silly Commuter Miles, not Commuting, so it's what you do that counts. Anything except rollers & turbo trainer miles; that's not cycling from where I sit. That said, no-one's checking. It's between you & your concience. If you've been out on your bike, add the miles, if nothing else to put pressure on R_T_A, Rich, CJ, mcmullej etc & ITB (who thought of this in the first place so gets a bonus 2.5 miles for coming up with the idea).

Alas my high mileage commutes are over for this year, after next week i'm taking the shorter commute and choosing to ride faster with lots and lots of weekend hill work

Thought it might come in useful next season  besides I've already proved I can do long distance and fast sprints.

Oh and there's the little matter of my exceptionally poor three lap challenge time

weekend hill work? Damn, there goes any hope of passing you on elevation (though it was a slim chance anyway).

[As for the Johnie-come-latelies, there's a pattern of them sticking up a big figure and then disappearing without troubling the database any further, which justifies the 3-week cutoff. The stragglers list gives them the option of making a comeback, but in my eyes the Regular Updaters board is the only one that matters.
As expected - two more of these "look at my miles; bye then" have dropped out today (or will have by this evening) from the main list. The main leaderboard is probably going to slim down quite a bit over the next few weeks as the weather turns parky so I reckon we need to correlate those who voted Yes on the "Will You Cycle As Conditions Get Worse" thread, with SC Stats Division 2 Stragglers List to create a page of shame - "We said we would but we wussed out when the sun went in".

I predict no more than a dozen will still be sticking numbers up there by Christmas.

I fully intend to be one of the dirty dozen, or maybe bakers dozen if your calculations are out by one.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

There's more than a slim chance that the 4 x 1000ft back to back hill climbs might be another reason my knee is fcuked!

I remember last years blood shot eyes and digits with no feeling plus the six mile walk home in the minus one million degrees with a ripped tyre I for one can not wait, bring it on bad boy!

NB: just calculated my winter daily mileage (25 total) and train fair £50 a month more, whilst the dinosaurs at FGW do allow bikes the extreme ball ache trying to book your bike on the train then find a human at either end to open the time capsule they call the bike carriage everyday is just not worth it, so I will be Silly Commuter Walking (read the threads people) during my London commute, grrrr!

One day last year FGW took 15 mins to find someone at the station who was actually able to open the door and rack my bike, seems they need to have been on the 'training' course before attempting such a tricky manoeuvre and every single night without fail I'd have to hunt down someone to open the train to put my bike back on at Paddington then purposely leave a door open each evening at my destination to get someone to help be get the bike off, now I ask you does that encourage people to cycle???

for £50 a month more, really! no really!!!!

Shit just typing that has made me angry all over again and to think i'd almost forgotten how complete wank FGW are I'm almost inclined to start a campaign.

Was going to reply with a 'meh - 300 miles to close in on you before the end of year? Yeah right...' but took a closer look; 270 miles in 10 weeks - 27 miles per week more than you to end the year in the top 10. There's a challenge.

Actually it'll be 9 weeks as we're away at half-term so that's a week gone. 30 miles a week then. Now that Porgy's opted out of matters a new target can only be a good thing. Chocs away...

There's no way I'm making the top 10 this year. Next year though I should be right up there. I'm going for 8500 miles bring it!

...but then look at your monthly mileage compared to mine. And I've got 3 weeks off work as well, which means I won't be consistently plugging the miles.

Like I said, I've noticed...

I'm going to do a sportive on the way home tonight..

Yeah jus after I posted that I remembered I'm having 4 weeks off at the beggining of the year, maybe 7000 miles would be more doable.

That said I've got a baby seat for my MTB now so I can offer to take the eldest out when the little one is born 8) better get a comp on my mtb over the winter.

Just wish I had got into this earlier. Looking to do all through the winter, and break into the top 20. My real input started from October, wher i have decided to be a real bike commuter. I will be fighting up the monthly list from now on, and for 2010 hopefully right up there.
