  • Strewth! It's getting fairly data-tastic!

I'm happy with the just miles/PF/targets etc version, and I reckon you should all just get garmins/nokia sports tracker/other relevant software and compare on there!

    So nyerrrrrrrrrr! :P

Nooooo, it's called Fun with Statistics! Also, it is a means for me to get nearer the top of the table compared to all these Londoners whose routes are so flat they select the granny ring for speed bumps! (Hello Lit!!). Some of us have to cycle in 3 dimensions
    Faster than a tent.......
  • Ahhhh I see, this goes back to the discussion some of us had in Wales about how one welsh mile is equivalent to 3 london miles...

And yeah, clearly my 'climb' is somewhere between negligible and non-existent...

    Damn.

My bottom bracket disintergrated on me this morning - I know have a bike that sounds like a bucket of smashed crabs and am 17 miles from home.

AND - I lose the mileage for the return trip.
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

  • I AM BACK!

I did 8 miles on wednesday, 13 on thursday and on friday I took a leaf out of Rich's book and did SE London (Ladywell) > Gravesend and back, 47 miles. It was a bit further than it should have been as I got a bit lost on both legs. I did it in just over 3hrs at an ave of 15.1mph including stops. Mega Chapeau to Rich for doing that as a daily commute - Shooters Hill is fun (though not sure I'd fancy it on a cold, wet and dark November evening!)

Today I did what I call the "7 hills challenge", which is a 16 mile loop around SE London taking in all the steepest climbs - Vicars Hill, Telegraph Hill, Forest Hill (inc. Canonbie Road at 18%!), Sydenham Hill, College Road to Crystal Palace , Gypsy Hill, and Blythe Hill. The challenge is to do it in less than an hour, which today I failed at. It is more than 7 climbs as I often make more than one ascent of each hill (via different routes) to create the loop. It's a good little training run and if any South Londoners fancy joining me in the future, give me a shout...

  • Just one or two extended commutes last week, off-road on Saturday morning without a coffee-stop for a change and the usual 90km on Sunday morning seems to have done the trick!

September on the whole won't be so good. Too dark for a long run on Thurs nights with The Jolly Wheelers. Might get in a few km off road though....

Fantastic, Shooters Hill is fun, try coming down it in the snow and ice, stopping for the traffic lights is fun  I like the sound of the 7 hills challenge, you'll have to take me on a tour when I'm back inthe saddle (and have a bike suitable for hills)

I had a gentle 10 miles on Saturday along to Rochester, which was extremely pleasent. It wasn't quick, and tbh I felt it in the evening and on Sunday. Not in fitness terms, but I know my shoulder just isn't up to it, out of the saddle efforts were hurting, and it's been very sore ever since  Maybe a few more weeks R&R are in order, with the odd gentle ride thrown in.
pain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

    I'm done ....!

These were my new years resolutions as per an earlier thread on this very forum.

Double my annual mileage 6000+ = check
Increase my avg speed to at least 20mph = check
Have a serious attempt at the BR century challenge = check
    Lose 20lbs = check

From now on the rest of this years riding is all about having fun, no more numbingly cold dark wet winters rides, today i'll be taking the car :D

This mornings commute was bliss I wasn't in the least bit bothered by the strong SW wind, simply walked out of the house into the car, heated seat to full radio tuned to BBC2 bit of Wogan in the morning, super!

New PB to the station 30 mins  parked unhitched my SS from the car and walked calmly to the platform to await my train, no sweating weird clothes or stinky shoes, warm dry & smug

    Bliss :D

my folks place is probably about the same it's only 6 miles but even to where you've got a 800ft drop to help 30mins would be pushing probably not helped by having to go though the town to get to the station.
  • So this is what happens when I go on holiday, eh? Strewth. Greg T in the mix :? ITB driving to the station... whatever next? Two divisions, right?

I think thats just about acceptable :D

Being an uber geek my stats are broken down bike *cough* and my road bike average isn't that high...Doh
Although I am dtermined to get a 20mph average at least once in my life...on a 35mile loop near me, so far my best is 19.77mph...sooooo close!! I am now waiting for the "perfect wind" i.e. a clockwise swirling tailwind :D:D

  • Well I have achieved a goal too, having finally bettered the average distance of all users. Plan now is to leave it as far behind as possible in my hunt for the top 30 by the end of the year.

ITB - do you have any kind of protein/recovery drink to do those miles/stats? I had some when I was buliking back up after an illness in the spring and it has now run out (about 2 weeks ago) and I am feeling a bit more jaded than I would normally I think.
