So what is everyone aiming for?

    I'm going for 7k

Not doing great yet since it means I need ~30 miles per day assuming 233 working days per year so I might have to book those Sportives to make up for the low mileage days, or I could get a job a bit further away and a bike that's that bit faster...
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

That's the spirit the "extended" commute is your friend
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Yeah, my basic, minimal commute is only a ~13 mile round trip so that's a mere 3000ish miles, boosting it to 25-35 a day is reasonable also I'm switching to Strava this year and already found plenty of segments on my regular routes, extending the commute will probably mean attacking some extras.

I just turned down an offer of taking the car tomorrow, can't be missing out on those miles frivolously now can we?

  • Not set on a target as yet, but I hope I break 6-7k this year. JOGLE in sept will seal the deal, it is just getting back on the commute afterwards and seeing how much further I can go!

  • 6K for me .. reckon I could do more but:

    1. I'm sure life will get in the way,
    2. I go rock climbing twice a week and on those days I can't cycle - so I'm only commuting a maximum of 3 days out of 5. I'm not too bothered by this as it means that my legs get a rest every other day but it does place a pretty big barrier to get higher mileages.

Good luck for everyone else and their targets.

Must be. That will seriously take it out of you 5 days a week!

  • Up and running for 2013 with my first commute of the year yesterday (day off again today). Bit of a disappointment in that my journey in was slower than any ride in the whole of 2012 :( . It's set down a marker for the year, I suppose.

Target for the year is 0.1 more than last year. I'd love to make 5k, but I doubt I'll get there.

I was planning on doing something similar but only for a one off week .. to do that consistently over the Summer? Seriously knackering!

Good luck and keeps us informed of how it goes - interested in hearing how you get through it.

Be aware, anyone planning to leave it a few days, that Stats locks itself from Jan 3rd for this year's miles so get them in before then if you have any 2012 miles that need adding.

Why leave it all to the end?

    Because I'm a busy person.

It doesn't really matter. It's just a stain on my unblemished history. Probably a good time to bow out permanently!

It's not meant to be a trap, it was done to stop people jumping in and claiming the win after we've all finished. Scroll back through the early pages of this thread if you haven't got any paint drying that you could watch instead, to find the original argument.

When I get my PC back from the kids bombing each other to bits I'll put em in for you. Unless I find a bottle of something that distracts me.

More in the spirit of things if you update more frequently too. Once a month is a bit caddish but do stay in

I agree with Rolf. As it didn't affect me though (unlike UndercoverElephant sneaking out on NYE and beating me by 0.1 miles grumble grumble) they're in.

Anyone else? Form an orderly queue. I did find a bottle though.

I went home for new years and missed a few pages of this ya see

I would have needed to bank a lot of miles to steal anyone's thunder lol

Oh 9th, if I grab a cheeky 30 miler in the morning I might just bag a top 5 slot for a day or so.

Now is the time to do it .. cos there ain't no way we'll be able to grab a top 5 slot in a few weeks time :(

BTW I'm on family visiting duties over the weekend

.. to a bike nut brother-in-law 8) .. so fingers crossed I too can up the miles

No chance of holding it once the weekly and monthly updaters get their miles in. Need a top up anyway as I need to average ~30/day so am slightly low.

So here's me committing to leaving the house before the sun comes up on a Saturday morning for some stupid online leaderboard. Well, whatever works. Bagged my first top 10 place on a Strava Segment today. It's like Burnout Paradise only on a bike and real.
