Planning on doing LEJOG next May with 2 others (so far!) and our current planned route is approx. 970 miles (8 days).

Are you doing this during daylight hours?

My route was basically this (which I found on the ctc forum). There were a few stretches where I followed smaller B roads that went the same way, but I mainly stuck to the larger ones.

A30 all the way to Exeter
Old A38 (B3181) north out of the city
A38 all the way to Worcester
    A449/A442/A41 to Whitchurch
    A49 to Person
    A6 to Carlisle
    Old A74 (B7076) to J12 M74
    A70/A706/A904 to Forth Road Bridge
    Old A90 (B981/B996/A922/B996/A912) to Perth
A9 all the way to Latheron
    A99 to JOG

I did map it all out in Gmaps, but tried to save the route and it threw a fit. Should have split into days, but couldn't be bothered to enter it all again at that point...

    Wow, sounds fantastic.

You /must/ have done some more serious training though surely? I do a commute of a similar length to yours and frankly some days it is a bit difficult to get back on the bike

I would love to do it one day and will keep in mind what you say about timing.

How many hours a day were you riding.

Excellent news on the lack of mechanicals.

    George

In May I did London to Edinburgh. I think that averaged about 75 miles a day. Before that though I did no real training, and between then and now I did nothing extra either. I know what you mean about feeling tired some days, but I found that less of an issue touring as you're not really pushing like you do on a 20 mile a day commute.

For LEJOG my daily miles averaged just under 100. Most in a day was 115, least was 82 I think. Riding time was between 6 and 8 hours I think. Av speed at the end of the day tended to be between 13 and 16mph. Started about 8:30 and finish between 5 and 7, depending how lazy I felt at stops during the day.

Trouble with monthly totals is the starting from scratch again every 30 days......

Last month was good though. After extending my target from 1000, to 1100 and then to 1200, I finally made my 4th target of 1250 miles at about 3:45pm on Saturday afternoon. Pretty pleased with that - only the Running Man did more and he isn't a real person anyway. Also managed over 300 for the week.

No real idea for a target for August though - definitely more than 300 though

LMAO : you're not the 1st person to say that either .....

I certainly felt real enough climbing up to the top of Eglwysilan from Glytaff in Pontypridd on Friday afternoon I can tell you. I have never gone up anything that steep.

The noise of my heart beating in my head was so loud I could hardly hear myself sobbing

you know you have just set the gauntlet down now and im chasing you down lol

damn you, im meant to be reducing my miles as i have now finished my charity ride of 6000 miles and have neglected a lot of things in that time, noticably my relationship :(

but the strange thing is now ive finished im enjoying cycling again and will prob still be clocking up the miles. i managed only 1900 last year in total, im going for 11 for the end of the year.

Im doing time trial on thursday so after that back to clocking up the miles, BUT im having at least one day off a week from now on, think i need it. still aiming for 1000 + a month thought.

ps you sure you dont want to go away for a few weeks in the summer and put your feet up?

andy, given the miles you are riding the chances of not seeing you in Brum seem remote! Can't access the pics in your sig block at work (banned) so what bikes should I be looking out for? My commute is out from centre along broad st and then off through Harborne and Bartley Green, seem to remember you are around the NW though?

chances are unlikely, especially with the family away for another 4 weeks; might take a few days off in September though, so there is hope.

Not sure where my annual total will end up, at this rate it's also looking like 11k is something to aim for but I did take it easy in the Winter with only basic miles to and from work. It will probably happen again this year, as it's not much fun cycling backwards / forwards in the dark for 29miles (total)

No dont think will see me as im from kings norton way, tend to head up towards shirley through earlswood and then into maypole. although some days im very strange and if im off work go into town and look for people to race / ride with lol

Do you do many leisure rides at the weekend or evenings. If im out the weekend ill more likely be on red and white trek but if its raining or im tyred goingto work weekends will be beige trek fixie

look at how stupidly competitve were getting. Im looking to get a good November and december this year as last i managed a total of less than 400 over the two months

I have just realised how mad i have been this year, last september i rode only 308 miles and 206 in august that is ridiculous

July last year i rode 270 miles, july this year 1234 miles

Last year I rode 2278 miles in total. This year I was barely more than 1000 miles behind that for July alone!

CiB has a lot to answer for. I suggest we head on over to his with burning pitchforks etc

Surely it's just harmless fun, I'm certainly not doing the miles for the sake of the Stats table, I'm only doing them because I enjoy being on the bike and it's an easy way to keep track of miles

Yes I do ride for pleasure and get great enjoyment out of it, however I have one problem. I have a very addictive personality, (previouslt addicted to drink and gambling but we wont talk about that :) ) and since I had my target for charity ride I was neglecting other things just for the sake of getting miles in (relationship and health). The ironic thing is i will prob ride the same mileage but without the pressure, last month there was at least 5 days my body cried out for rest but i felt i had to ride. Now I can just concentrate on breaking into the top 3 lol

The comment I made about getting competitve was just a tounge in cheek comment, I need to set myself goals in almost everything I do as it give me a focus, top of the table is out of the question but watch out gbshane and maybe airwave

Its very pleasing to see and be able to show people that there are people who are more crazy than me in terms of mileage

It's not for lack of wanting to I can assure you, I just can't. That 1.4 miles carrying a rucksack with a separated shoulder hurt like hell even with pain killers, i'm not doing that again any time soon.
