top ten by sometime in may is my aim
The silly thing not only am I addicted to getting the miles in, I seem to be strangely addicted to looking at the stats page!!! Must check it a good few times a day, god knows why, nothing massively changes, I then try and work out where I will want to be the end on the month......and still end up 12th!! :roll:FCN 8 mainly

Given the size of the 'entry' now and the sheer pace at the top, my current aim has moved from mid 30s to mid 40s, I guess its easier to say that I would like to end up in the top 1/3rd, as that can then be a moving feast. Chuffed to have passed CIB this AM, but Asprilla has sailed straight past - are you planning on doing 34 miles every day or is this just a big push? If the former, then bye bye! Prawny looks like something of an "irresistible force" rising through the table too, but I remain confident of climbing a few places yet.0

Crumbs did neither of you do any maths at school? If you rode 0.5 miles would you put yourself down for 0?
Round 0-0.49 down and 0.50 to 0.99 up

This lark is getting expensive : just had TF on the phone as both bikes are in for a service today. One of the guys rang to say my chain is on the 100% wear mark and what the feck have I been doing on it as I only bought the bloomin' thing recently??
When I explained I'd done the best part of 1800 miles on it in the last 6-7 weeks there was a deafening silence at the end of the phone. That made me smile.
Of course the consequence is that I'm probably going to need a new chain AND cassette now and then another new one before the Dragon Ride when I will have done another couple of thousand.
The Roubaix definitely needed to go in as I started getting a bit of chain slip last night so had to cut the trip home to 23 instead of the 32 and came the same way this morning for the same reason which was a bit frustrating.
Tempted to try a 40 miler tonight to make the 1000 before I go away but the forecast says pi$$ing it down like crazy so maybe I'll let it wait and give me the incentive to get on it agian when I'm back from Germany.Specialized Roubaix Pro SL : Litespeed Titanium Siena : Specialized Allez : Specialized Tri Cross :

Then you get a bias. Better to "Round to even":
0.35 -> 0.4
0.45 -> 0.4
0.55 -> 0.6
0.65 -> 0.6
...and for those who's measurements are precise enough to use 1/100ths:
0.349 -> 0.3
0.350 -> 0.4
0.351 -> 0.4
0.449 -> 0.4
0.450 -> 0.4
0.451 -> 0.5
1/100 of a mile is under 53', less than 9 crank revolutions, typically....

It does do that. Blink and you miss the chain going from OK to knackered.

Hi Salsajake,
I saw you had a bit of a slow start to the year and glad to see you coming through now. I think we can use the same technique as last year and draft each other up the table.
It is rather serious this year though isn't it. I thought I'd get a good head start to the year by cycling through the snow but everyone is taking it sooo seriously :shock: Although I am pretty pleased with myself for passing the statsmeister CiB 8)
I'm setting my sights on R_T_A now as he was doing roughly twice the miles I was last year.Just Keep Pedalling0 -

How do you remove your account?
If I'd realised at the outset how this game was played, I'd never have joined in! I can't decide whether it's more embarrassing to carry on in a public display of mediocrity, drop out and attempt to sink into obscurity or try to arrange to be airbrushed out of Stats history...
Sadly, M'ingTFU is not an option.. I have too many other demands on my time :-(

Statsmeister. I like that. Tomorrow I'm back on 2 wheels for my 3 days @ 2 x 21 miles so brace yourself for disappointment by Friday.

I just need to see me through until I can replace the bike - I don;t want Clever Pun to get too far ahead of me.
Perhaps a bit far for you, but Recycled in Surbiton do exactly that - recycle bikes. For the cost of a cross-town bus ride, might be worth giving them a call.
Alternatively, check your local tip - mine sells bikes for as little as £10.
I bought my current bike off ebay for £90. I actually now prefer riding it to my Scott CR1 Pro!!!!
That said I have treated it badly and it's down to 5 gears (from 14) due to various mechanical failures! With the warmer weather I'm finding I'm in dire need of some bigger gears!Still breathing.....0 -
Guys, I have a problem:
The sun is shining and my girlfriend has just phoned to ask if i want to go home via her office and then cycle home together.
The thing is, this route is about 3 times longer than the direct route home, which just isn't long enough :roll:
I was planning to set off for home in completely the opposite direction which is about 4 times longer than the direct route.
What should I do?
I could go off in the opposite direction, then via her office and then home, but I'd need to leave work now and I've already spent most of the day on here :oops:Just Keep Pedalling0 -

I can see this making its way to the O level syllabus:
Three cyclists leave their office to commute home.
One is on the Stats leaderboard in 3rd place with a Cuml Gap of 129.4 miles, and plans to go home via a ridiculous route that adds 34.6 unnecessary miles onto the journey.
The second cyclist is also on the leaderboard, is languishing in the lower half but in sight of 50th place, and would like to go straight home but feels that it's 'not quite right' to do do that.
The 3rd cyclist enjoys riding and has no concept of SC Stats.
Given an average road speed of 17.5 mph, which one has the beard? Which one is in biggest need of help from an outside agency?0 -

Say that you were going to take a longer route home today (giving the impression that you don't ride the long route every day), but that that's a good idea, so you'll do the longer route tomorrow/another day, meaning that, because she thinks your usual route is actually your longer route, you can ride a really longer route home and she'll think that you're only a bit later than you usually are.FCN 2-4.

Hi mate, yes I saw your good start and was wondering if I would catch you, but then you had a quiet period and here I am. I did a bit of snow riding myself, but the main problem was hard frosts and ice through most of jan and feb - my route now is rural and high up (well, not Swiss high, but passes 260m) and the roads aren't treated. I've come off on ice before and I don't ever intend to again! Things are warming up now, so hoping to average about 140 miles a week over the rest of the year, excluding holidays and late Nov early Dec when we may have the same problems. That would put me around 5-6k for the year, which is a lot better than 3.5k ish last year. My new commute is so much nicer too, lots of rural stuff, nice views, owls, herons, canal etc etc. Shame there are still complete nobs in cars though!0 -
