    Oh that's terrible news Porgy.

I'll give you a wave as I go past then.

    :)

Unlucky actually. There must be an option to repair / go the 2nd hand route.

Oh no that's rubbish, sorry to hear about that.

Any chance of getting welded up locally? Or is it properly deeeeeeeeeeeeed

I was wondering whether I could get it welded - the bit that's broken doesn't seem to bear a lot of weight - I can still ride it sort of though the wheel wobbles a bit.
I reckon you could get it welded. If there is an LBS near you* associated with a club they'll probably know of a frame-builder who could fix it pretty easily

    * probably a tautology, that

I'm going to check in at my LBS one morning this week.

And start looking on ebay too.

So can anyone recommend somewhere in London that's good for second hand bikes?

Maybe a little trickier, but like JG LBS may know someone who can do it.

Have even known people who have just popped to their local independent car garage and got one of the guys to weld up a snapped frame in their lunch break cash in hand wink wink.

Guys, the log-in idea was pretty straightforward - your pwd is your username unless you've entered another one.

I'm getting too many requests for resets; I'm sure it's not beyond us to have some kind of password strategy in place, whether that's a Post-It note on screen or a secure password manager software application on your PC, or a core password modified for each place you use it.

I can accept being a bit sloshed and forgetting what you changed it to [no names no pack-drill, broken-bike], but it's not internet banking here. Try writing it down.

    Over & out.

Aw that sucks, porgy, what's wrong with it?

Frame snapped down by where the rear axle is held in place.

I reckon by the time I have the money for a new bike CiB will have caught up with me.

Dude, you have had some seriously bad luck on the reliability front. Is this all the same bike?

I think my bike may just have reached the end of its natural life. I'm going to have a go at getting it fixed asap - but still intend to buy a new one this spring - hoping for a bonus payment shortly which i thought i'd be saving for a rainy day.

Friday was quite nice, on the way home just out of the city, 2 French lads who had cycled more or less from France needed directions (pannier laden) to a hostel which was on my way home to Holland Park. I gave up for the evening on racing home to let them follow me, I felt good afterwards 8)

Didn't commute today, my legs are battered, 1 hour spinning session yesterday followed straight away by an intense leg work out, calves are a bit too stiff!

Like the Enterprise it'll be back in a new gleaming refitted version.

Like Scotty I'll be so fat I'll have to go through doors sideways. :?

Hopefully I'll get some sort of bodge done on the bike by end of week - and then you'll be sorry.

For an alu frame, were I to go for the car option, I'd head for an Audi or Jag dealer. Both of them make cars with alu chasses and panels. Working with alu isn't that straightforward as I understand it.

The guy I share a house with just had some welding work on his aluminium Toyota at a local body shop so I'll probably try them - once I've exhausted the LBS option.

pretty much guarantee your LBS will not be able to help as it'll be beyond economic repair (= sales oportunity). Even if you do get it fixed, the alignment will probably be out, unless they've a jig and you're almost certain to get another failure in the same spot (since the weld will probably not be tempered properly and so may have all the ingredients for another crack forming straight away)

I'm going to find out if there's a frame-builder nearby I can take it to. If not then maybe a bodge job down the local body shop - as long as it's not a lot of money.

I just need to see me through until I can replace the bike - I don;t want Clever Pun to get too far ahead of me.

Perhaps a bit far for you, but Recycled in Surbiton do exactly that - recycle bikes. For the cost of a cross-town bus ride, might be worth giving them a call.

Alternatively, check your local tip - mine sells bikes for as little as £10.

    hmmm conundrum

a smaller commute ending that's .6 mile less but it's nicer in comparison... might end up taking the 'hit' of upto 3 miles a week

Take nicer commute, but add a warm-down of 0.6 mile around your house. Simples!

I think im going to give it a bash, although think may have one day off, this sunday for staying at home with gf, however next week im only working on monday, so plenty of miles to get in last few days if im behind

Im doing 6k for charity by the end of november, however it has all got too exciting for me and at my current rate ill be there by end of July

I want a top ten spot on the table, jab and feb disapointments for me. considering i done 2000 miles whole of 2009 the fact im at 1300 already is a great improvement.

Really hope can get decent ride in tomo, weather looks good so far

    cheers

thing is think im actually addicted, I am in the habit of waking up early 5:50 so can leave my house at 6:30 to ride to work, although I can get there in 4 miles. All i think about is the extra miles I need / want

think im driving everyone crazy but the thing is I was short of time sat so just done 7 miles and felt VERY unfullfilled, If i finish work early i find myself getting near home and doing and extra 6 miles just cos want more.

I spose its better being addicted to cycling than my old addictions of alcohol and gambling (yes i have an addictive personality)

top ten by sometime in may is my aim

hmmm that's doable... and certainly not beneath me; on friday night I rode round in a small circle outside my house to change a .55 into a .56

Just checked a loop around the house, it's the same distance... happy days, can't believe I didn't think of that

yup i go to the nearest mile, mind you I don't take it too seriously hence the 90 something position.
