Thats really good for a first effort. Perhaps you could add the recorder and cameras name in the tags section too? I find it helps people come to my vids :)

Yep I will be doing all that, I rushed it onto the net because I'd had enough of the editing process and wanted to get off the computer as quick as possible :P

I didn't film this, but the 5 miles or so this guy cycles constitutes about half of my morning commute. I'd like to think I'm a little more careful on the road than he is!

Hehe, lived in Dublin for a year or so. Took me a while to get my bearings but once he got to Rathmines I knew what was going on.

    As for his riding... Eek!

Been out this afternoon with my camera and bike. First off we have a steps video

The grinding noise is my rear brake, need a new disc for it.

Secondly we have a waste of red paint on the road. It is obvious that to be a taxi driver in Bristol you don't need to know what these red boxes are at traffic lights.

Took my rightful place at the ASL and gently accelerated away from the lights though I was near 20mph quite soon.

need to be goin faster down those stairs!

N'ah that subscription is quite interesting :D

BTW does anyone know why in the bus lane it has BUS written upside down (around 3 min 25) so it spells SNB ?? I get the whole LANA BUS thing (But does still make me laugh, they do this in Australia, what's the point?) but can't see any reason for SNB?

"Lana Bus" is Irish Gaelic for "Bus Lane" so it's not technically back to front (like they do in USA/Oz) but I never could see the point in the completely upside down ones. Maybe Dublin Council think people might decide to drive the wrong way down the bus lane? Wouldn't put it past white van man, or some cyclists for that matter...

OK, before trying to film a morning commute, I gave it a go with a Sunday ride, which was 1.5 hours through lovely Essex countryside. I've condensed the video down to 8 minutes and added a soundtrack to it, Fat Boy Slim's right here right now.

Hoping to video a full commute in the next week or so.

The quality was good on the original, but lost plenty in conversion. Any tips on exporting video to this effect would be useful. Thanks

When I convert I tend to use "DVD quality" wmv in windows movie maker or mpeg2 in Corel video studio (that I've just started using). Look for setting that are along the lines of 720 pixels and 3000k bitrates too. If you upload to places like youtube they give you quality options on viewback and will encode a smaller version for those on slower broadband.

Be careful about using copyrighted music in your videos. People are cracking down on that thesedays, and Norman Cooke himself got in trouble with that album

A nice big memory card and some good batteries also help.

Thanks Downfader, appreciate the advice. I'm a bit of a novice at this but love the idea of creating simple video like this one. Do you know what it is in particular that will make the video smoother than it currently appears? It also appears much darker than the original, any thoughts there? Thanks in advance...

Most of the cheaper video software just cuts frames out oddly and created a jerky video when you speed it up. I found that doubling the speed, saving a new video file and then doubling that works best. It comes out smoother.

Also dont be afraid to cut bits out. I often edit out bits where I'm waited at lights or have to walk etc.

I dont know much about it coming out darker... some software has editing for that. Mind you your vid looked fine to me in that respect. :)

Again, appreciated! I used Adobe Premiere Elements to edit/export this one, which I find very usable. I also use Windows Movie Maker at times, which i find is very easy to use and works well. Here's an example of a an off-road short video I edited on Windows Movie Maker,

OK - my first effort at downloading some footage. Not sure if it's going to work or if I have the right hosting website, so apologies if its awful and/or boring. Hopefully, there's some SCR action from last week featuring a recumbent and a messenger, who fought back by flicking bodily fluids at me. Nice.. Two links but the same footage - just seeing whether one has better quality.

Pretty good quality, Christophe! I could feel your panic and shame when the recumbent pwned you :) Any chance you could mount the camera horizontally, though?

Yeah, yeah, a few teething problems includung keeping things on an even keel. There's no label or marking so you've got to remember to check the monitor, which is a faff. And I got held up by the dozy taxi driver, so the recumbent had a clear run on me... :x
