    Idiot!
Hmmm... I did post a reply to this on Thursday but I guess I did something wrong because I can't see it

Anyway, I assume the 'idiot' was for the RLJ and not me so thanks ;)

I did think it would be sometime next week before I got a proper ride again (been a few weeks due to broken ribs and holidays) but I went out today and pushed myself into a 30 mile trip (got to get ready for the 'Pedal for Scotland' nightmare in a couple of weeks). I was almost home when an Arriva bus driver decided he couldn't wait another ten seconds before overtaking:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJYW_nsc1dE

I don't know about other Glasgow-based cyclists, but I find Arriva to be the worst... even worse than licensed mini-cab drivers and that's saying something. I don't know if they've got ridiculously tight timetables or something, but more than any others these buses Arrivas will pull out on you, overtake when there's no room, sail blindly through red lights, etc. Whether I'm driving a car or cycling I'm always a little cautious around these idiots. :?

Anyone managed to get even half-decent sound out of the ATC3k camera? Having googled post-purchase (I know, I know, but it was so shiny...) it seems like there's a consensus that they might as well not have bothered with the sound and made the camera a bit lighter.

Really, it's useless for recording sound. I'm not that worried about sound but still it would be nice if anyone knows how to fix it.

The bottom plate under the lens is where the mic is. The plate is actually designed to offer wind resistance to protect the mic but I have heard of some people hacking that about to improve sound.

There are a few blogs people have made on it around.

I have found that the atc3k is great on one front - battery life. I use energiser recharables in mine and got nearly 5 hours out of it. I was lucky to get 2 out of my nikon.

Cheers, I'll have a look around - not that optimistic though as the screaming white noise was still there when recording in a silent living room. Maybe if you need sound the Flip's a better option.

I think this has been a testement to the atc3k's waterproofing, LMAO!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GwnqJcN8DY

I filmed it yesterday morning into work (chucking it down - and the local busses have been cancelled so I had no choice other than the bike). I havent applied any of the silicon grease either - but its held fast.
  • Is the Itchen Bridge at 3:20 where you keep drifting to the right ?

Yep. Windy, but I was also avoiding glass too, lol! Its quite a good cycle lane considering - nice and wide and drivers respect it I have found.

Been out this afternoon with my camera and bike. First off we have a steps video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=839arB24vgw

The grinding noise is my rear brake, need a new disc for it.

Secondly we have a waste of red paint on the road. It is obvious that to be a taxi driver in Bristol you don't need to know what these red boxes are at traffic lights.

Took my rightful place at the ASL and gently accelerated away from the lights though I was near 20mph quite soon.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Please please please get a new disc that sounds horrible. :)

Two sets of rules on the road. One for them, one for us.

  • Its not a helmet cam but its my commute 8) Accelerated at times using windows movie maker - just to save the boredom of watching a 10 mile ride home. Filmed this summer using a old mobile phone strapped to the down tube. What better way to finish a day in a office?

For those of us here with ACT2K/3Ks, you can get SD cards from Morrisons for £5. They are selling SD and micro SD but the micros don't come with the adaptor.

  • I bought the ATC5K and stuck it on the bars. S'alright in the daytime. Here's my first ever video. Just bits of my commute. Not a very exciting day, but not very exciting days keep me alive, I guess.

    http://crap.wapoc.com/atc5k_1.avi (36mb)

Ran it through VirtualDub with a bit of rotation, compressed it with DivX. Any camera tips would be appreciated ;)

    I bought the ATC5K

Can you post an uncompressed short clip straight out of the camera please? I'm thinking of getting one of those puppies - the quality looks reasonable, albeit with some horrible compression artifacts.
  • I didn't film this, but the 5 miles or so this guy cycles constitutes about half of my morning commute. I'd like to think I'm a little more careful on the road than he is!

Seems like a decent bike lane system, are scooters allowed in them ?

allowed? no. But that doesn't stop them going in them. I've never seen a motorbike/scooter being pulled in over going in a cycle lane. Its just not enforced, which is a shame. They should either enforce it or else allow them use it. The former would be better in my opinion though.

That route has good bike lanes, but its not typical of Dublin. I purposely choose that way because of the bike lanes - I could shorten my commute by over a mile if I wanted but I'd be seriously putting my life on the line every day.
