A couple of RLJers who are reluctant to do the same on the next set of lights and I passed them straight away after the 2nd set of lights.

Don't need to as the lights are slightly out of sync, half a second earlier would be ideal.

Few comments already saying I should report to police but I have a question - report via RoadSafe London online or report properly the old fashioned way (albeit with video evidence)?

Blimey - as the comments said, I'm sure plaster board of that size could do a lot of damage to you or other things if it hit. Potentially lethal.

You should absolutely report - do it the old fashoined way direct the Police - that's an unsafe load, it should have a tarpauline cover over it.

Hehe... True, but the date and outcome fit my case perfectly. Might be wrong, of course.

Pffft... that's not too bad... how about this one for size, from quite a while ago now, and completely ignored by the Bus company on two occasions.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpb4USktH1k

Anyone on the road which joins at those lights from the left (at about 45 degrees angle to this road) wouldn't be able to see round the corner to see the bus jumping the lights... and suffice to say that the sequence is "as efficient as possible" (i.e. when the light jumped here turns red theirs is actually green at the same instant... seems the amber phases are times to coincide!!!) anyone coming from there would have been completely wiped out.

Yes, quite right, that is worse than my video.

Did you report it to the police?

I'm fairly sure that my video would also have been ignored by the bus company, save for the fact that I reported it to all of the following:

    TfL
    The individual private bus operator
The individual private bus operator's parent company
    My MP
Boris Johnson / Mayor of London website
    The Police

I heard nothing back for quite a while but I think once the police got in touch everything suddenly happened and I got an email from both TfL and the operator saying the driver was being sent on a course, etc etc.

It costs nothing to cut'n'paste your text into a few extra emails and usually helps a lot.

No, I didn't, unfortunately. Was hoping that the Bus company would deal with it effectively... guess I was just young and niaive... well, niaive anyway.

If similar happened again I don't think I'd have any doubts about reporting it to the Police. Downright dangerous driving!

I definitely think it makes a big difference if the culprits get pressure from multiple angles (your email, the police, MPs, etc) as they simply cannot ignore it then.

Ooh... a reply from the skip truck company has just dropped into my inbox... Time to go read.

Update: bog-standard reply... Had I not reported this to the police and my local councillors several minutes prior to emailing Maguire Skips I dare say this would have been the last I'd hear of it.

/sits back and waits for further emails in the coming weeks.

    Further reply from Skip Co:
    Dear Sir

We have called in an emergency meeting with our transport officer to deal
with the situation. This is now going to affect our business and we would
ask that you remove the clip from you tube / google.

After the meeting this evening we will be able to update you on the action
    being taken.

In the past I've always chosen to update the YouTube description to say that the people have made contact and are being polite and cooperative rather than remove the video completely, but what do you reckon?

On the one hand it's a true video - that did actually happen - but on the other hand a company is made up of more than one employee and just because one of them does something wrong doesn't mean the whole business should suffer.

    Thoughts?

    Bit of a curt response.
If they are worried about business then perhaps they should be a bit more rigorous in their driver selection, business practice, training etc. They would have got more publicity if the load had hit someone.
Whats the betting the next email will have a 'privacy' or 'legal action' slant to it?
I would say after they have let you know of the outcome then it s up to you what you do.

    Jamey,

I think I'd probably remove the video, not because of any legal argument (because I'm pretty sure there isn't one), but because:

. They've asked you to... nearly politely.
    . It wasn't deliberate
. *Maybe* the driver didn't actually notice
. As you said, the company is made up of more than just the driver.

Take it down, wait for the outcome of the meeting/whatever, and if you're still unhappy you can always post it again. No point burning (potential) bridges without giving them a chance to address the situation.

Wow, I'm actually pretty impressed... I'd go so far as to say this is pretty much the perfect outcome tbh:
As promised I can now update you further on our emergency meeting held last
    night.

Initial Action Taken: Our driver has been given a verbal warning and all
staff have been shown the video clip to outline the dangers of uncovered
skips and less than careful driving.

Disciplinary Hearing: Our driver has been asked to attend on Thursday, along
with the Company Directors, Company Secretary and Transport Manager.

Proposed action to be taken: Due to the detrimental effect this may have on
the future of Maguire Skips Ltd., instant dismissal will not be actioned.
Our client base, including local and blue chip companies, may be affected by
the video footage, if this is the case, other drivers may be at risk of
losing their jobs. We will initially impose a fine a issue a final written
warning. A review will be held at a later date when the extent of the damage
to the Company will be assessed.

    We always welcome feed back

I'd leave the vid up but put words to the effect that they are taking positive action and what they are doing. Surely that can only show them in a good light in that they take their responsibilities seriously... but the vid needs to be there to show the effects of such dangerous practises.

Vehicles that shed loads are a real problem - have you only written to the compnay concered? It does seem (on face value at least) that the company is taking the matter seriously, but that's fundamentally because the matter is serious!

Before you remove the video (if that's what you intend to do) I'd ask if Maguire Skips Ltd have flagged this incident up on RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations). This way the HSE, VOSA etc can ascertain if a pattern is forming.

Well done with the bus/roadsafe incident.

I think I've found quite an elegant solution to the "do I remove the video" dilemma.

Stay tuned and I'll post an update later tonight when i get home.

My elegant solution would be to blur the company name and remove and details that identifies them.

Keep the video up for reference because that sort of thing does need highlighting

Yep, that's pretty much what I've done.

Obviously YouTube doesn't allow you to replace or edit a video once it's published so I've done it as follows:

Step 1 - Don't actually delete the old video but mark it as "unlisted" so that it's no longer searchable and doesn't appear in your channel. this way anyone using the direct link (ie clicking on the link in this thread or any emails you've sent) will still see it and won't be surprised by a "Video not found" screen, but at the same time no-one searching in Google / wherever will be able to find the video.

Step 2 - Make a new video that's (a) totally anonymous (all text blurred) and (b) has a description of the outcome so people can see the company acted responsibly.

So here is my new, updated, anonymous version:

Man... I seem to be on a roll lately when it comes to getting results from YT videos.

Remember this crash I caught on camera in September last year?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_-upK-oVWY

Well I asked the police to let me know the outcome and just had a letter through. The driver of the blue car was fined £230 and given six points. Apparently he pleaded not guilty and didn't even know there was video evidence despite me standing there for 20 mins after the accident filming everything, which just reinforces my opinion that he was drunk (he gave details and left before the police arrived at the scene so he was never breathalysed).
