Not sure you'll get far - can't see the lights from your video so s/he may have passed the first line as the lights were changing which is completely legal.
Not to mention that you then technically jump the lights by going past the ASL.
Very sensible cycling from you, don't see that often, most people would have done what Boris did and tried to go under the lorry! BUT is that really complaint worthy?
You can just see the lights on the left from about 48 seconds (Well before the driver starts indicating left). In the full resolution video it is quite obvious.
Yes, but as far as I could see I had three main options after he drove into the ASL.
1) Sit in the blind spot of the driver.
2) Unclip & get off the bike while in the blindspot then push it forwards.
3) Cycle as I did to a safe position.
1 - no thanks. 2 - While I'm pretty sure I know the light sequence well, I'm not faffing around in that postiion. 3 - best option. Would you have acted differently?
I did consider whether worthy, and eventually decided it was as either the driver of the HGV was not correctly trained in road safety, or didn't care. Remember, this is an engineering company where on site at least, safety is paramount.
McGee have apparently lent lorries to the police for cycle training - http://www.mcgee.co.uk/news-more.htm?id=16 - which is somewhat nullified by the behaviour videoed above.
Finally, many cyclists would quite happily up the inside then be stuck on the left in the 'danger zone'. Potentially contributing to the high percentage of fatalities in London that involve HGVs.
To be honest, I was just hoping (and all I asked for), that the drivers be reminded of what the ASL is for and the need to respect it.FCN 9 || FCN 50 -

Ah, but what is one to do when one knows there's an ASL so filters forward but finds it full of car or truck? If it's been impossible to safely stop and move off from alongside the vehicle in the ASL I've stopped only just over the line making sure I'm not in the way of peds and that can see the lights for when they change."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Which I had done at the previous junction. I overtook here as it was a suitable place.FCN 9 || FCN 50 -

Yep, I can't argue with that; it's annoying, and often dangerous to filter to the front and find it's blocked by motor vehicles. As you say, the best thing to do is to pull forward as far as you can.
However, in this particular case, I think the decision to overtake the truck was wrong. The truck was in the right-hand lane, indicating left, and you can see that it's the first vehicle at the lights. Even if the driver had stopped before the first line, and the ASL was clear, you could well be sitting in the driver's blind spot. I find filtering up the right to be safer, but trucks this size can initially move further right before turning left, just to clear the turn. I think it's better wait behind the truck and let the it clear the lights rather than filtering past it.jds_1981 wrote:rml380z wrote:jds_1981 wrote:Yes, but as far as I could see I had three main options after he drove into the ASL.

Which is of course where we'll be stuck disagreeing.
My opinion is that it was a suitable place to overtake, but this was mitigated by the illegal maneuver made by the HGV driver (who should have known better), which was you'll recall my original complaint.FCN 9 || FCN 50 -
Forgive me if this has been asked already but I couldn't find anything when I searched the forum.
Can someone outline the position for me with a site like YouTube where you publish in a video, the Car Registration Number? YT's privacy policy seems unclear about it. I know some of you on here publish videos to YT a lot (I subscribe to various channels).
I had someone make a silly comment to one of my videos, which I deleted due to language and general silliness, but he also said he'd reported me for publishing private information. In preparation for any contact by YT, I thought I'd check out the position for myself. However there seems to be a lack of information in general on this matter.
Can anyone tell me the answer to privacy when it comes to Car Registration Numbers on YT (or indeed, the general data protection issues around filming in public)
Thanks
Dex.

Seems like a weird comment. A number plate is there for everyone to see, I can't see how this is private information at all. If you published it with the guys name and address then that would be a different matter...
I can't give you a definitive answer with regards to number plates and YT's privacy policy, but the fact that it's common practise for a lot of commuters to publish number plates of offending vehicles, I'm sure we would have all heard about it by now if there were any issues. I wouldn't worry about it.
With regards to filming in public, the UK has fairly lax laws about this so there are no issues at all there. It's not like filming in Europe or the USA.FCN 2 to 80 -
I think people have had youtube remove videos before due to people complaining about number plates. Don't believe there are any legal issues around it though.FCN 9 || FCN 50

I reported him using the Met website. What's really annoying is that it's about 20m from where this happened

You got a clear view of the company website so a report via the contact us page. It might be a self-employed driver but there will be a depot they are based at.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Where do you mean? I don't see any markings on the van at all other than the number plate0

Whoops. Just realised that I posted the wrong video. That other one happened at almost the same place 6 months ago. This is the new one:

Be interested to hear what the police do about that little manouevre - if that isn't careless or inconsiderate driving, I don't know what is.
Perhaps you could keep us updated? If they let it go then I'd be tempted to take out a private prosecution.0 -

1 from last night. Driver cuts across me then another driver pulls out thinking path must be clear. I'm sure I dont normally sound so Scottish as I did when telling her what I thought.

Thank you for the information you have supplied through the Metropolitan
Police Roadsafe London reporting system.
The information will be reviewed and dealt with accordingly. If we
require any additional information we will contact you.

Right. Here's a few to look at.
Starting with the guy who decided a couple of seconds was worth giving me a heart attack.

This lady (yes this happened in the SAME place as Mondeo man, different day) hates me. I don't know why, but if she sees a cyclist she deliberately blocks them. I've met her a few times - always at this stretch and I always have to overtake (and always do)

I reckon you'd be better off filtering on the right anyway, rather than squeezing past cars in the gutter. That would solve the problem of the rude woman.
That roundabout overtake was a disgrace. Hope you had a word with him in the office.0 -

It's nice to see some camera footage where the rider hasn't felt compelled to shout at anyone who gets in their way, and in the last video despite the woman's actions there appeared to be some considerate driving going on as well.0 -
