Hi guys. Need a bit of advice on the best cheap helmet cam, most likely from China etc. I don't have a massive wedge of cash so I'm looking to limit it to about £50 right now - I'm not expecting a lot for my money but I've had a couple of very close shaves on my commute recently and I'm looking for an insurance policy cos I'm getting the feeling of WHEN, not IF...
I've posted in the 'Road Buying Advice' forum as well but I thought the regulars in this thread would have better knowledge. Should I not even bother to look at the cams in this price range?FCN 2 to 80 -

The cheap DVR cameras from HK & China seem OK for the £10, one to avoid are the ones that look like torches as they record in 5 minute clips then restart recording but you lose 2-3 seconds of action. You need to look at the MD80 clones and buy a Smart Polaris II bracket, CRC, plus a class 6 microSD card.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Ah, Smart Polaris II fittings work do they?
CRC have them out of stock, but a penny more could get me a light + fitting, then the light can be a cheap spare.

You need to mess around with the light bracket and drill a hole for the cable tie to secure the camera and bracket to the lamp bracket.

That's great, I didn't realise you could get them that cheap. Have you got any clips to check out?FCN 2 to 80 -

Have a browse at my Youtube channel from the last 12 months. The latest clips on there are from a CountourHD camera. I do have the original clips still on my PC that haven't been compressed by youtube. One word of caution about the cheap cameras is not to overcharge them, 3 hours max. Anything longer and you will reduce the charged life of the battery as I know to my cost.

This wasn't recorded on the usual camera but from a pair sunglasses with a built in camera but uses the same internals as the mini DVR cameras.

Cheers for those vids. Ordered one of the MD80 clones from China for £7 posted - pretty crazy price. If it's sh*t then it's sh*t and I've only lost 7 quid! I'll probably end up velcroing it to the side of my helmet somehow...FCN 2 to 80 -

I have deleted all of my previously uploaded videos I only wanted to delete the video posted last night I would have broke the 100 video mark tonight if I hadn't been so computer illiterate.
Anyhow back to the fresh uploads.
Rolling to a traffic light controlled roundabout and I get undertaken by a bus who used the bus stop as an extra lane.

Passed this cyclist and the only thing that stuck in my mind was that he seemed to be talking to himself and having no lights and later RLJ'd. It seems lights weren't the only thing missing from his bike.

A multi-tasking lady driver. The two things she's doing, mobile phone and driving. I didn't point out the error of her ways but she did have a guilty look on her face as we parted company.

In the dark nights we face now, drivers on mobile phones in traffic are going to be a lot more obvious with the displays lighting up when in use.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

A PITA, needs a dictionary too. No vids uploaded himself but plenty of useless comments. He posted a comment on one of my previous vids and I thought I blocked him :xI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Was he? Yes he misjudged your speed on the first roundabout, error. But on the second, maybe he was leaving space for that speedy cyclist behind him who just might attempt an illegal and dangerous undertake of a car indicating left. After all, he starts to indicate where the road is still a single lane.
Just because there's a gap, doesn't mean you should go for it.0 -

Yep, kinda looks like he gives you a load of room and plenty of warning that he's turning left. Probably shouldn't have undertaken him. </judge>0 -
Im sure this question has been asked before but............. is camera evidence submissable for legal proceedings? Has it ever been used for such?Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals! Except the weasel0

There was a thread last week about a wvm being successfully prosecuted for, i think, careless driving and threatening behaviour on the basis of helmet camera film. Unfortunately he didn't get done for assault after punching the cyclist because that wasn't caught on camera.

Pretty ignorant driving by the van but the cyclist should have just realised and braked before the corner. Def cant be surprised the driver got out after he hit the van!0 -

Read the cyclist's detailed account of the incident in the link provided by Asprilla as he discusses both the points you raise.0 -
The only thing the cyclist did wrong was not shout "Why are you hitting me!" then the assault conviction would have stuck had the driver responded incriminatorily, if there's such a word.0

thought here would be a good place to ask, does anyone have any experience of the X'snipe B'twin 300 camera from Decathlon?
Interactivity : Films directly onto SD card (not included, 4Gb max).
Accuracy / precision : 30 images/second, VGA resolution (640*480).

& for the record (bearing in mind the CS7 thread) when I went past her a few seconds later as she was stuck in traffic, I didn't bang on her window, rant, shout abuse at her or anything else that might have seemed intimatory, agressive or violent, I just slowed down a bit, looked her in the eye, shook my head sadly and carried on. Looks very much like the ATC2K. Have a read online for reviews of this camera. I had one in the past and was happy with the results but have since progressed onto a £7 Ebay special and now reached the top notch camera with a ContourHD1080.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
