Plymouth grove, Longsight. Born and bread round there my friend. A nice part of town. NOT! Gun capital of the world unfortunately.

Tis a shame :) I've had a few incidents round there recently.Cars driving into the cycle lane, kids lobbing bottles at me, buses cutting me up.

Unfortunately, its safer than Apollo Roundabout, so I have to take the risk :)

Here we have a clip of a car jumping a red light and nearly hitting a cyclist in front of me. The joys of Princess Street in Manchester at rush hour:

What about going up Hyde rd. A lottery I know, but a bit safer than Plymouth Grove.

  • (OK, sorry that this is slightly OT, but clearly there are a lot of 'users' here)
I've read on this t'internet thingy somewhere that the MUVI recording quality depends on the SD card used. Any recommendation for cards (and links to where to purchase?) from the users on here? Also, what's the max capacity card it'll take?

I had my invisible jacket on today it would appear. Coming off the lights at Rupert Street/Centre juncion I've got a bus in front of me with a silver hyundai(SH) trying to lose his nose in the side of the bus, bus gets ahead of the SH and the SH decides that slipstreaming the bus is more fuel efficient and b0ll0cks to the cyclist behind the bus he is about to cut up

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TawRGs01NZ8

To make up for this idiot I did have a Renault with some sense avoid a left hook as I neared work. Saw her draw alongside me and indicate and was expecting the worst but no, she kept on with the orange disco lights and slowed down for me to go ahead of teh junction which earned her a wave of thanks.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Annoying driver, but would it not have made more sense to drop back and fall in behind that car?

8gb card is the max it is supposed to take - haven't tried anything bigger - I also use a poo 4gb card and quality is good enough - never thought a better card could improve the quality of a recording thats only recording at 640x400?

  • That was great watching that video, haven't been back home for years.
  • Really cool London bike messenger video on this post

Ah, sorry. That was really two questions. Thanks for the heads up on the 8GB limit. 'The card used' was more to do with the speed or type of the SD card, not the capacity, if I understood/remembered the reviews I had seen some weeks back.
  • Slightly OT but I've been considering getting the AEE MD91 (new version of the muvi/md80) but also want something that I can take reasonable movies of my children with. Has anyone tried mounting a Flip or Kodak Zi8 on their bars/bike?

Er no, thats not a cool video. Its a bunch of tossers making idiots of themselves. I'm not suprised the pedestrian attacked the guy at the end and the cabbie yelled out.

Point 14 of your list - why pause? Be clear in your use of language there. My personal thing is I keep the motion up and shoulder check before so I have time and safety to focus on the traffic coming from the sideroad.

Point 3 - hit pedestrians? WTF? You seem to imply that its safer NOT to take avoidance action.

Points 1,2,4, 5, and 11 are spot on. With 5 being that you have the ability to move.

Point 6 I disagree with. Even if there is an ASL its not always safe to barge to the front, put in a point about Lorries/large vehicles too. If you jump a light you're setting a bad example to young riders who wont know of the ways in which you take oncoming traffic into consideration. I never run lights and have never had a problem, even if I've sat in line with the cars. :? You also add to the myth that we shouldnt be on the road, plates etc etc.

Yeah, I wasn't particularly impressed with Luke's "tips" either. Time to go buy and read cyclecraft.

That's an allycat race. Rules of the road don't seem to apply to allycats, just get from point A to point B as quick as you can...

A couple of clips from the snow in Brizzle today

From when the snow was 'pizza'

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMea6S40s2k

4" of snow with specialised houffalize cx tyres at lower than the recommended pressure, think the front was as low as 30psi, the rear was nearer 60psi.

and from when it had gone from the main carriageways

A compilation of video and pics taken on my commute to work. I ride different routes depending on the time of year the weather and how early I wake up!

Camera is a Panasonic DMC500 fitted to a reverse mounted handlebar stem with a modified tripod head bolted to it.

The camera is a compact still and HD video camera. Some of the stills were taken with my Canon EOS30d.

So I'm struggling to work out what I did to deserve this. Why did the driver have to overtake there and why did he have to use the filter lane to do it?

Considering I wanted to take the right hand lane after the junction and he wanted to go straight I find it pointless and overly aggresive. I would have been out of his way in a few seconds.

Then he tries to make out its all my fault. Am I missing something?

Sorry, but it is almost impossible to make out what happened due to the camera angle pointing down for most of that clip.

I know it was a bit low but if you look before the bus passes the right hand lane is a filter lane. He should not have been using it to overtake. He didn't even need to overtake as the road forks off just after there and I wanted to go right and he wanted to go left. Then he tried to make out it was my fault which is bull crap.

How can I be to blame going in a straight line when he's come from behind and in a lane he shouldn't be in?

My MD80 has arrived, damn it's small

Only problem I can see is with this being a cheap oversea knock off it's difficult to tell when it's recording or if

The quality of video is very good, so far.
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
