Got some helmet cam footage of YOUR commute?

I finally got around to mounting my MD80 for the commute yesterday morning, it lasted 10 mins before it filled the 512mb microSD that's not very good compression anyway to cut a long story very short it's now DEAD!
wont power on/off etc etc. good job it only cost me £3 or so else i'd be very annoyed, however even though the 10 mins of shaky video was disappointingly short the quality is very good, I think i'll buy another. Can anyone recommend a good cheap (ebay) supplier?Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

When you say "DEAD!"....care to elaborate a little? You sure it's not just locked itself out? Are the red and blue light both on? If so, just leave it alone until the battery completely dies, then stick it on a mains charge for about 2.5hrs. That should sort it.
It is AWFUL compression, I use an 8gb class 6 card, it can ALMOST fill it before the battery dies (around 2hrs). It's not too bad though because Windows Movie maker compresses the files down anyway, and Youtube takes quite big files if you dont want footage compressing.0 -
Now you know no-one gets 2 hours out of the battery.Smarter than the average bear.0

When I plug it in and press the power button nothing happens, nothing! so you think if I leave it plugged in it'll string back to life?Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Not this again
As I've already told you. Continuous recording, mine is fairly close to 2hrs (about 1:45 I think is about the best I've had).itboffin wrote:When I plug it in and press the power button nothing happens, nothing! so you think if I leave it plugged in it'll string back to life?
Ah, I see, that kind of dead.
I mis-understood. There have been a few people in the thread over in the MTB section saying dead, but meaning frozen/safe mode (when the 2 lights both come on solid and nothing works).
To be honest, I'd give it a try sticking it on a mains charge for a couple of hours (no more than that though or it frys). If it works, bonus. If not, you've not lost anything.0 -
Plugged it in anyway now both lights are on frozen and I can't turn it off :?Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

A (shaky) video of part of my commute.
This follows the NCN 4 in Maidenhead.
The camera was mounted on a the handlebar with a Joby Gorillapod (hence the shake).

If you plug it back in and both lights come on again, just hit the reset button, that should sort it.
Just FYI when you get it back up and running. These cams dont like you completely filling a card or recording until the battery dies. It tends to give them problems saving the files properly.0 -

Mine did that when I dropped my helmet, would turn on but not do anything and couldn't turn it off. I undid the 4 screws and checked it by pressing the micro switches. It all worked that way so I think the circuit board must have moved slightly out of line. I pressed it back in properly, closed it all up and it now works properly.
I have only got an hour's recording from mine so far, but I don't think I have been charging it up fully. I was put off from leaving it charging for too long by the warning about charging from the mains for more than 3 hours.0 -
Two clips of bad driving today. Started the morning by getting squashed into the kerb by a bin lorry and wvm.

Left hooked by a BMW who had to pull into the kerb as there was a problem with the car. I guess something to do with the mirrors.

Can't see why you chose to go through on the inside there.0

Just a quick update on this one. Had a call from my mate the Sergeant at the local copshop. I had run him off a copy of that footage at his request and they payed the lady a visit last night and showed her it.
Gave her an unofficial warning, told her to be more careful next time etc etc0 -

I have some sympathy with the driver on that one - you hit a gap - he should have been more aware though. Also, by the sounds of it he was very apologetic - a little less bad language would have got your point across just as well and given a better impression of cyclists?
Headcams are funny things because they don't really give a true indication of how scary incidents can be and the adrenalin that goes through you - and they do portay the subsequent fing and blinding pretty badly!http://www.georgesfoundation.org

Found a knobhe@d on his phone coming out of the Swallow Royal, the camera doesn't pick it up too weel but a right hand to the ear is a dead giveaway. We had words with on two seperate occaissons. His opening gambit was that he saw me so that it was OK, he might have saw me then but the time he doesn't see me is the time I come off second best :x The second chat was better, he asked if I was a knobhe@d, yes I replied, with a camera to record such circumstances as we've just been through and to lookon Youtube later for his car reg.

I think some appreciation that cars, vans, etc have blind spots and not everything is visible when the mirror has been checked. As cyclists we need to ride DEFENSIVELY and ASSUME we haven't been seen by the motorist.0 -
Not just bad driving but downright wreckless and selfish. Lucky for him the cyclist got out of the way sharpish. If it'd been me I doubt I'd be as sprightly and he'd be looking at some damage to the side of his pretty little car.

Think the car is more likley to be a Bentley looking at the grill on the front. Regardless of the car bad behaviour on the tw@t in the driver's seat part.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Oh! Never did know much about cars. They all look the same to me :shock:0 -
I've just been given a little camera and I've been mucking around with it on my helmet. I'm also new to MovieMaker so I'm afraid my video is pretty appalling. But this section of my journey - around Tavistock Square - is surely worthy of note. It's always been dangerous, and now it's just ... baffling. For those with good hearing you'll hear me rather insanely saying "cyclists, cyclists" as I was trying to go down the cycling lane but it was full of pedestrians. The time stamp says it was filmed two years ago, but it was actually a few days ago. Any tips on filming/editing/captions gratefully recieved:

I knew there were blindspots and never venture into them but this has made me realise just how big they are.
My latest close-call with an Audi again.

Very topical this one. If you're going to turn left on red please pay attention to the road.

Of course I saw the knobber. I was waiting for him to look round and stop except he seemed to prefer to leave it to luck / spider sense or whatever :evil:0 -
Witnessed some pretty rotten driving last night but here's a bit of fun as I get burned by a roadie and find an extra burst to keep up. Didn't know I still had it in me

Got my muvi and set it up at the rear. pretty good!0 -
Is that a proper Muvi or one of the eBay bargain ones?
Or is it an MD91 rather than an MD80?0 -

Here's some pedestrians on Southwark bridge from a couple of evenings ago. It's not like there's even anyone on the pavement!

If anyone's interested, I captured this with an AEE MD80 stuck to the top of my helmet.
Cheers
