I'm in Leeds on Friday night Simon. Like our kid says though, we might be looking to go out on Sunday.

Callum, altern8 and I will be setting off from Kingswood then finding a track near Dunswell which will take us to Beverley. Then trying to find something from there that will take us to Raywell, which we will then do our usual route. That then takes us through Skidby and Cottingham then home to Kingswood.

Not much in the way of off-roading around Kingswood, just River Hull and a couple of BW's really..... No hills...

Ibbo, I remember that route across from Tan Hill. We did it on the C2C. Like you say, it was lucky that we had a GPS, because there was no way there was a BW....

    Are you riding next weekend?

    Weekend of mornings
I'm next out on the weekend of 16/17th when I'll be giving the Mmmbop it's maiden voyage.probably doing the Jacobs Ladder route.

Hi there guys, rider from Hull here just been having a flick through this thread - nice to see it so active! :)

I ride a mix of trail centres and downhill, usually Dalby and trips to Wales/Scotland but would like to have a go riding some more natural trails. Trying to get fit again after suffering a seperated shoulder from a DH crash

    Callum88 wrote:
Have you been up to the area in South Cave around the quarry? I didnt get much chance to explore but did find a good but short downhill sections.

    Hi Callum,

I've been looking for some local FR/DH stuff too and I found out about the quarry about a month ago thanks to a thread on here: http://www.moredirt.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19478

The small downhill in the woods at the side could be made pretty fun I think with some work, not sure who's trail it is though. Some nice lines in the quarry too, some good drops and jumps although I haven't done anything big really as I wouldn't want to injure myself alone haha!

Give me a shout if you want to have a ride around there or anywhere else, most of the guys I ride with have moved away now so would be good to meet some other riders and maybe build some trails.

    Cheers all,

    Adam

    Hey Noodle,

The latest I heard was that the quarry was closed, but id be more than happy to take a look. Im at a wedding on Sat just in Newbald but im going to take my bike up with the hope of getting a few hours out on Sunday. The woods by the quarry seemed pretty pedestrianised so I think we'd struggle to build anything, but the downhill section just after "The Lea" on Beverley road (uphill if your coming from that wat) is pretty long and very fast but fun!

I didnt get chance to explore much further, i'd biked from Hedon to Princess Ave that day, then the missus dropped my off at Melton Bottoms and I ended up there in the woods after biking all over to find the route on the other link i posted. (Her Grandad who she was visiting that day actualy lives on The Lea so atleast we'd have somewhere to wash the bikes if it got messy)

Im deffinately up for a ride to see what we could find though pal. I gave up on my project bike and bought an upgraded KONA Scrap a few days ago, its a pretty solid hardtail so i'm looking forward to taking it out for a "real" ride.

Do you already live up that way?

Hi and welcome af-noodle, a quick google about the south cave quarry, and from what i read, you would be trespassing if you went on it mate.

As for getting out and riding some natural stuff rather then trail centres, youre more then welcome, rides during the week are more of a last mintue thing, where as the rides at the weekends are normally set in place a week before we go,so just keep a eye out on here.

We did a 32 mile route from kingswood tonight,of bridleways/roads/farm tracks/woods/and a little bit of footpath,no big massive downhills, but still hit 33mph,was a good little route just to get some miles in the legs.

Do you mean the trail that runs down the side of Little Wold Plantation next to the quarry then turns left down to Beverley Road?

I don't live out that way no - live just off the Beverley Road in Hull itself, but I pop out along the dual carriageway quite often to have a ride around if I have a couple of hours to kill :)

Would definitely be up for an explore, even better if other people in the know could give us directions where to find the good stuff. Free most weekends and the odd weekday and evenings work allowing.

Thanks! I did wonder about the legalities but as there was no signage and the entrance was pretty open I thought I'd give it a go. Tyre marks everywhere so I don't think I'm the only one! Perhaps best avoided then though, bit of a shame as theres some nice terrain. I wonder how to go about finding who owns the land?

Will keep an eye out for rides being planned! :)

The bit i read about trespassing was from just over 2 years ago, from anouther biking forum, they said the police turned up,and gave them a warning. Also looks like W Clifford Watts Ltd either own/use to own the quarry.By all means if you want to take the risk then go for it .

I'm happy to accept a slap on the wrists if there is some good riding to be had :P

Ye, specifically the last part which leads back onto Bev Rd, its pretty smooth but fun to ride.

Thats some serious milage Altern, I did 15 yesterday exploring whats to be had around Paul and Camerton, but didnt find a great deal, sounds like similar terrain to your Kingswood route.

On Saturday (weather permitting) i'm hoping to integrate part of the quarry into the route Giggs sent me a few posts back, ive still not been back since. It will have to be an early start though as the wedding is at 3. Otherwise I'll hit it on Sunday if im not too hungover!
Would be good if any of you guys want to join...I hardly know the area and i'm getting a bit bored of riding on my todd!...

Callum88,im off onto moors 2mor,and then looking at dales/peaks or moors on sunday,so cant make local route this weekend.

Here is what we have planned over next few weeks tho.......

Altern_8 up on Moors 7 july.
Altern_8 + giggs out to Moors/Dales or Peaks depending where best weather is on 10 july.
Week starting 11 july we are looking at going up to Fylingdales one evening, prob looking at leaving Hull round about 4pm.
Then it will be in Peaks on either 16th or 17th july.
Then on the 24th july,myself/giggs and sl2371 are doing the on-one-hundred endurance at Dalby forest,we are doing the 50km route.

Ok bud, the evening rides would be a bit difficult for me, I don't finish work till 5pm, but I'll try and join you on the weekends in the future though. I've only got back into riding a few months back so I think the 50k would be a bit much for me at this stage...unless it's all downhill??

I'll "mapmyride" when I get up to cave/Melton bottoms though and share what I find in the quarry etc. I've heard that there are some pretty huge sheer drops in there (hence why it's closed) so if u don't here from me afterwards then I've probs fallen off the side and ended up in a heap :P

I'll come along on Saturday if you like, early start is no problem although my knowledge of the area is probably no better than yours! :D All I've really been doing is looking at the OS map and going wherever looks vaguely interesting.

Had a nice little 20 mile ride up on the moors today, started at cockayne(nth helmsley),took 3 hrs 45 mins to get round, with a few really tuff climbs, specially the "incline",which when my ride partner for the day got to the bottom of it and looked up said "this is the path to heaven"
