Your bikes appear to be pointing in the wrong direction in all these photo's
Seriously jealous though as the weather was c0ck-on and I was in the garden with the kids  and my arms are now red and itchy from cutting conifers :x
We're doing this route the right way around in a couple of weeks if anyone fancies it 8) Giving the new HT a go 8)

Aye, it was a good ride out today. Very hard work in the heat. Can't believe I've got a tan line where my socks were, I told you lot I should have gone without any....

Ibbo, I was saying to our kid I should have took my HT, might have been easier to ride due me putting some DH bars on my Mondraker.... 8)... Too wide, only just scrapped through the gates. I might see if our kid fancies doing the route the wrong way in a couple of weeks....

    Hey guys,

Have you ever found (or even bothered looking) for any good downhill/MTB areas in East Hull? There's the Hull/Withernsea track but its a bit flat and dull, but thats about all I know about...

I spent about 2 hours biking round Melton Bottoms at weekend trying to follow the route on here http://srands.co.uk/. Turned out to be an epic fail though due to lack of knoledge of the area and pretty poor directions on the site until I found the dales in South Cave where there is some good riding. Any of you found any fun to be had here?

    Cheers.

    Hi callum88,

Dont know of anything to the east of hull,if we do a local route we go round brantingham, but at the moment there are a lot of new signs and fences going up on the couple of paths we use,so we are at the moment trying to find some new routes just using the bridleways.

Here is a route we have done in the past,...Brantingham short loop.......you can also start at raywell, and go up through Nut wood(garlic woods)and join the above routes at little wauldby farm.

Sweet, ill hopefully give this a go at weekend if the weather is up to it. I have mapmyride on my phone i think so hopefully I can upload it onto there. Thanks.

Have you been up to the area in South Cave around the quarry? I didnt get much chance to explore but did find a good but short downhill sections.

Also found this vid on Youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zNYoVvMUZg The section towards the end with the jumps tooked promising, any ideas where this is??

    Thanks,

Callum, if you look at the route Altern 8 gave you, the jumps are in the tree section North of Ferriby right at the start/end of the ride.

So from the start of the ride, go across the bridge over the a63 and into the trees through a gate, you should now be going uphill slightly. As you gain height look to your left and you should notice a trail, carry on up the track you are on to cross roads. If you now look slightly behind you to the left you should make out the start of a singletrack trail, this is the one with jumps and a nice gradual downhill. This will take you back to the gate you came through.

Great, I've been scouring eBay for about a week for some new forks, dont think my current ones would handle jumps too well.

Cheers for the directions though, looking forward to a try on these.

    Hi.

Hopefully looking at joining you next time you have a midweek ride on, if you don't mind a tag along?

Looking back through your thread looks like you have a good laugh and some good routes. Would of liked to of joined you this weekend, been upto Reeth alot but never on the mtb but I've already arranged a rare weekend ride (for me) with the lads I normally ride with.

    Have fun!

    Hi magpie316,

Always welcome to join us on a day out on the bike, always wait for everyone, never leave anyone behind, and as you have said,we have a laugh as well.

The midweek rides are normally at short notice, depending on when anyone else is on holiday/days off work/finished work early, the weekend rides are normally a bit more planned to give others a chance to get a pass from her indoors for the day.

    Hi everyone just signed up.
I'm in Brid just bought a new bike today, a Barracuda Arizona. Wanna get into riding again.
I wouldnt mind coming with on one of your weekend rides sometime in the next few weeks, once I've got myself kitted out properly and remembered how to ride a bit better. Had a few sketchy moments round Danes Dyke this arvo.
If anyone knows any half decent routes from Brid could you let me know. Like shortish ones an hour/hour and a half for midweek, or half day ones for weekends. I used to know a few but I've forgot most of them, I'll be out on a recy this weekend anyway
    Cheers

Youre always working ibbo68,you dont have to make up excuses not to join us

On a serious note,we have been up that way a few times.Last time was up that way,we noticed someone coming down what looks like a nice downhill,so as far as i know, giggs has included it in the ride,as for where we are riding,im useless at names of places, but put me on the trail, and i know where i am

Ibbo, I think we probably did the route you mentioned last year sometime. Unfortunately we got abit lost trying to find the trail across Pinseat, we ended up hiking across the Moor for what must have been at least an hour....

We did eventually find a path, just not the right one and made our way back to the cars in Reeth. We went back a couple of months later and found the right path, which I think is very hard to look out for, or is it just us.....?

    Good ride though.

The joys of continental shifts
It'll be even worse if we go on the proposed 4on/4off as I'll work at least one day evey weeken 6 out of 8 weeks

If it's the same path we found it with a GPS.The main drop off Pinseat is easy to spot it's when you do a right towards Gunnerside Gill that the trouble starts. The descent in all the books down into the mines at Gunnerside Gill is an unridable gully so we've found another(equally easy to ride past) drop that's long fast and flowing 8) and brings you out near Winterings farm It looks like the moon up there and the little cairns can be hard to spot

Barkey, I'll borrow your bars next time if thats ok, I've just put my old ones back on for tomorrows ride.

Ibbo, I was mistaken, the path we couldn't find was across Punchard Moor coming from Great Punchard Gill.

I remember this from our worst "ride" ever from Tan Hill.Great day out camping/beer at the Tan Hill Inn but the ride was absolutely crap.We set of from the pub across Pubnchard moor and despite 2 independant GPS units with OS mapping cinfirming our position this is what we had for the best part of 1.5hrs.
    4738934564_0ee46f4691_z.jpg
    and looking back.
    4738305399_bbb465fd88_z.jpg

There were 4 other riders doing the C2C,2 of them said that they had similar problems the other side of Tan Hill and turned around and rode the road to Reeth.
On OS maps it's shown as a definite BW but on Harvey maps it's shown as a BW with no defined path on the ground

That sounds like a lot of the rides we go on ibbo, when we are trying out new routes

Cracking ride up on the dales today round Gunnerside/Reeth,we did 13.7 miles, riding time was 2 hours, and 2 hours of messing about taking pics/getting lost/reading maps/exploring old mine works/climbing down hillsides on our arses/and talking complete bollocks..........

    Pics to follow.......

Ibbo, I remember that route across from Tan Hill. We did it on the C2C. Like you say, it was lucky that we had a GPS, because there was no way there was a BW....

    Are you riding next weekend?
