I've just looked at the 50km map and it doesn't look too bad. Bit of the World Cup course then some nice doubletrack on the Moors, with bit of the Red Route to finish off with.

    Count me in.... :)

Let me know what day you are signing up and I'll do it on the same day.

Done a few rides on road, aiming to be off road by the end of June. Can't believe how skinny my left leg is now compared to my right...!

anyone else fancy having a go at this towards the end of summer, would be a very long day out tho including driving there/the ride/then driving back.......26 miles and anywhere from 4-7 hours for the ride.

The Three Passes 8) We were suppose to do this a couple of weeks back but changed ride en-route due to conditions  You can shorten it a bit and get it down to 21 miles by starting in Kentmere.I know some very fit riders who took over 5 hours and have heard of riders taking as long as 9 hours  The climb from Haweswater up to the head of the Nan-Bield pass is for 95% of riders a long push/carry.

We're there for a week in September and will probably give it a go if the weather is kind.

Ive been told by someone who did the ride in january,to do....staveley-gatesgarth-nan bield-staveley...which would take about 6hrs for that bit,and would save on a epic car journey and give us a 4km descent. :D

And if we add the extra 10miles round the back of Garburn aswell then we would be talking 8hrs n brutal.

Hopefully will be looking at doing it end of august/start of september,i had a look at B+B's last night for the first weekend in september and they where expensive.

They're expensive all year.Four of us usually rent a caravan in Keswick for £280 Weds-Sat.This year we have a 4 bed flat for £350 8) For 1-nighters we usually camp, although we regularly do day rides but I'm a bit closer than you
From people I know who've ridden it they start do Garburn-Gatesgarth-Nan Bield. The Garburn loop can be done either way but it always seems to be Gatesgarth-Nan Bield. We were chatting in Bike Treks in Ambleside and they do the ride this way also. The ride can be done from Windermere,Ambleside,Staveley or Kentmere with loads of accomodation options in the bigger towns.

Yep you are a bit closer then us

Hull-Staveley is 2 hours 45 mins for us,anything further and youre looking at over the 3 hour 10 min mark.

I suppose i need to have a look into this a bit more, and all the diff ways you can do it,just dont really fancy the Nan-Bield hike-a-bike near the end,but its suppose to be well worth it. :)

Everyone under-estimates how tough this ride is.A lot of people just do the two passes,Gategarth-Nan Bield and miss out Garburn.I know people who've done this purely because they were fecked and didn't fancy Garburn after the first 2 8)
Link HERE For the two passes with photos :)
Hover over the photos and it tells you where they are 8)

Thats where ive been told to start on the linky, love the pic of the descent from Nan Bield, looks like something from the alps.

If you want cheap accom, try the YHA, yeah you have to share dorms but it can be as cheap as £12 a night with a contribution for breakfast (usually a couple a quid) ambleside has a private hikers lodge that is very good. I'll try n dig out a link and post later

    Cheers

Ride at dalby didnt happen,we decided on route to go up near flyingdales instead as it was such a nice day......15 miles later,i had pulled my groin, and decided it was quicker to go down hill faster without my bike, still had a great ride out tho :D

Hopefully next ride out will be in peaks, not to sure what day at mo tho.

If Altern8 isn't going for a ride tomorrow, we are thinking of doing a little something on Saturday afternoon. It would have to be easyish for me, due to my ankle still a tad swollen and tender.

Also, just seen the weather forecast and it doesn't look great for North Yorks Moors, but that could all change....

So. if anyone likes to join us for a ride around somewhere(...?), let us know. Could be Moors, Dales, Peaks or Sherwood Pines. Dependant on weather.

It will be slowish pace though.
