New ride thread.........
Looking at starting in chop gate/north york moors, meet up at 9-30am for a 10am start.
Head up through east bank plantation, across hagg house moor/slape wath moor and drop down into cockayne.......depending on how we feel,we could go one of two routes........
1)either head up and over to church houses via west gill then climb back up and down to bloworth woods.......
2)or climb up through bloworth woods from cockayne........
Then head upto bloworth crossing, back over to urra moor, then drop back to bilsdale hall and back to car park,be looking at round about 18 miles, give or take.
All welcome.0 -
just a few pics from ride across at lee/cragg quarry, first time ive been there, and it was well worth it,can be as easy as you want,or full on,depending on how brave you feel
the new link path.

How was the ride today lads?
I've just taken my new to me old school Yeti asr on its maiden voyage round Dalby. Decided to ditch the hardtail frame & swap the bits over to summat with abit of travel. Gears need a little tweek but everything else is spot on so shud be ok to get back out with ya's on any up coming rides. If ya aint 1st, yer last!!!0 -
altern the second picture is of me at the top of the slab descent where i bottled it0
-
Yeah, good ride today. Little bit windy in parts, but at least we had the wind at our backs for the leg back to the car.... Very dry at the mo, maybe too dry, lost traction a couple of times on the ascents. Got some miles in the legs to help for the WHW on Tuesday...
Is it the need for more travel Pete, them HT's are not very comfy... I think you and Simon would have liked todays ride.
Here are a few pics

if you scroll the pic across sl2371,yvonne is in it
the pics from today look good giggsmaster, just a pity i hit the wall before that last little climb, the 3 downhills we did where brilliant today tho, cant wait to do that ride again
next ride......
will prob be looking at 8th may for next ride, not to sure at mo where it will be,as giggsmaster is away doing the WHW this week, and myself and giggs are out having a few drinks on the 7th may in the afternoon..........i will sort something out in next day or two.0 -
not to sure on where to go for a ride this sunday yet,moors/dales or peaks?
i dont think giggsmaster will be joining us tho,as he decided to go over his handle bars and land on his ankle while doing the WHW,he said it has swollen up and he cant walk on it.....as far as i know, they where only 19 miles in to it,he was well gutted about it0 -

ibbo68 wrote:They didn't have to abort the ride did they?I'd be gutted too with the weather we've had :?
yep they had to abort it ibbo, and giggsmaster said the same as you,was well gutted as not sure if the weather will be same again, looking at doing it same time next year.
giggsmaster cant put much weight on ankle at mo,i did same thing a while ago,i was off bike for about 6 weeks.0 -
Yep, sat at home now with my foot up high. Can't put any weight on it without letting out a big scream.... I think trying to get up the devils staircase would have been abit tricky with a 30lb bike in tow...
Did it on Conic Hill, came down the worst of it. Loved all the rocky sections, rode them like a pro, then came to an easy corner and took the wrong line. Over the bars and tried landing on my feet but went over on ankle. It was just above the last set of stairs, so had to make it down to Balahma. Luckily a walker give me his pole and he carried my bike down, what a superstar.
My mate did the last 7 miles to Rowardennen YH whilst I waited for a lift from the Rangers in the back if the truck. Stayed at the YH hoping that I might be better in morning, but it was no good. Got home last night, I couldn't even stay in Scotland for a couple of days since I wouldn't be able to make it anywhere...
I'm absolutely gutted. The weather was perfect, the trails were solid and dusty. Not a cloud in the sky, you could see for miles. I just hope next year the weather takes pity on me...
What a nightmare.....0 -
Gutted for you mate we stayed at the Oak Tree Inn Balmaha, nice little Pub and you could just see the summit of Conic Hill from the front window.
If it's any consolation our 1st attempt was aborted also and we just went and did it the year after 8)0 -
Unlucky Giggs You certainly know how to dismount i'll give ya that. Last time i was out with you lads at cockayne you went over the bars chasing simon down that long desent  ...
Hope your not off the bike for to long mateIf ya aint 1st, yer last!!!0 -
Giggs I have to say you really have mastered the art of coming off your bike, anyway get fit soon. try not to let it get you down.0
-
at least it gives me time to save up and have a go as well next year
anyone fancy a blast round flyingdales on sunday?0 -
Giggs you should come and do Gatesgarth/Nan Bield Pass us next Wednesday.......at least now we'll be able to keep up with you on the climbs0
-
Cheers for the positive remarks lads.... :? When I come off I try to make it look spectacular, it might slow me down abit now though.
Ibbo, that's sounds like a good ride out, what time you starting, ha ha. I think it will have knackered up my fitness a little by the time I get back out. I'm very impatient im hoping to be back in the gym in a couple of weeks.
If you pm your address I can get the book and map back to you. The map wasn't used much but the book was a good read while wasting away the hours with my foot up
Here is a pic of my two feet....

Just checking in to see if you are all ok! Hows everything back home?
Been a while since we last spoke! Hope everything is still riding well.
Giggs - Looks and read nasty, hope you get back on the bike soon mate. Looks like your getting on while well on that new bike of yours.
Miss having the moors to ride around on, however theres a few decent places around here for a good ride. Mainly The Mendip hills (just like a moors but smaller, nr Cheddar) and got Longleat forest just down the road, just takes some time exploring it to find the best places. We found a great little wood the other week with some great trails to make a 1hr or so loop, lots of singletrack thru bluebells. looks good huh?
Also recently went to Afan in South wales, Oh my what a trail centre. The trails we did weren't as long as Dalby's red, but lots and lots more fun. From the half way point, you spend the rest of the trail (90%) going downhill, the final section takes about 30mins of doing downhill. Worth a visit if your ever in the area.
Oh I'm still riding a hardtrail, once i got the seat just right it rides fine and gets up hills abot better then the SX trail ever did. Heres the bike in its current form:
Have fun! You might see me up there sometime over the summer![/img]Yorkshire Man living in Somerset
