I was wondering whether i'd make it out early sat, but the thought of cleaning my bike after taking up a load of my little free time isn't good.0 -

Whereabouts in the Lakes you off to...?Biggus86 wrote:I was wondering whether i'd make it out early sat, but the thought of cleaning my bike after taking up a load of my little free time isn't good.
Next time we go out, don't expect one of us to push your bike up the hill just because you ain't been out and you're unfit.....0 -
That was not just a hill haha. I havn't been on my bike since, no time to get out. Though I have high expectations from this summer.
Enough about my fitness, should you be cleaning your bike or something0 -

hi folks
I live in Ferriby and my "usual" looks pretty close to your "regular route" http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/13440390 - tho I miss a bit out and do other bits in other direction.....
Interested to know how long it takes "good folk" to do this route? for comparison with my own efforts to see if I am anywhere near a par with some of you guys for possibly meeting up for a ride in the future without feeling like I'm holding you back!
I have looked at the steep downhill bit in the southeast side woods @ elloughton dale and wimped out, due to "inexperience" and a slight case of the "i'm on my own and if I knock myself out I'm knackered" ;o) - generally walk up this when I do in reverse, having slowly (!) slid down the hill on other side of the road (the one with the sharp turn at base) - was esp wimpy the other week when it was a bit icy!
I do enjoy the bits near ferriby, got a new light to give night riding a go this year as its on my doorstep
also - I'm a Scout Leader and I have seen some folk hurl through the campsite at high speed, and some folk have ripped down signs asking for bikers to dismount at the kissing gates there - my plea is for people to respect the campsite request ref dismounting or at least keeping it very slow down the campsite hill - as there's generally a higher likelihood of some daft kid running out in front of you behind a tent and the paperwork we have to do is crazy ;o)0 -
christ did I write all that?
btw not for a moment suggesting anyone here is ripping signs down etc just thought i'd make the point on a place I got taken to when googling "ferriby mountain bike"0 -
Hi and welcome.
We nearly do the same route. At mile 9 we go straight on at the cross roads on to the bridleway, then cut back across to meet up at mile 3, then follow the route back to Ferriby.
I'm not sure about other riders, but the ones who I have been out with, tend to take it easy through the scouting area and that is a few off here. Like I say I can't vouch for other riders, but there will always be some who don't take anybodys safety into account.
Regarding the times, late last year I made it round in 1hr 20 mins, but last Saturday was a slow 1hr 45mins.....
The bits coming back into Ferriby, like you say, are nice. The route sweeps round with a couple of jumps thrown in....
And, don't worry about holding people up, there is no rush, we always wait for the slowest (though, I'm not saying that is you.... ).0 -

ok bro,ill hold my hands up to being the slowest, not my fault i can turn a slower gear then you on the uphills, and take my time on the downhills, you should take care of us "oap's" now. :oops:mcecasf wrote:hi folks
hi and welcome,we are all friendly on here,as giggs said,we always wait for people, never leave anyone behind.....
best way to get fitter and quicker is to come out on a few rides with us.
i aint been out on bike for 2 months,so building up my fitness again.0 -

Hi there, looking for folk to do night rides with locally or sometimes Dalby (if they ever get the trees cleared away).
I usually ride from home, Hull, or set off from Raywell.0 -

hi and welcome.....
i dont really do local night rides, sometimes just go for a quick blast on a weekend,if there isnt a ride sorted out for the moors/peaks/dales......and hardly goto dalby,i prefer to ride the natural stuff, dalby is good, dont get me wrong........if you post on here when you are doing local, theres a few who do ride it,or keep a eye out for future rides.0 -
Hi
I know what you mean, I much prefer the natural stuff too, it's just that I like to keep riding regularly during the week, for fitness.
Cheers

same with me(the moors on tyres),and the sand was like concrete on frame and chain.......took me 2 and half hours to clean bike this aft.......found out why i couldnt change to big cog on front mech as well, there is what looks like a larger spacer on drive side(cant take it out),so not to sure if ive ordered wrong bb :oops:0 -
Aye, was a good 1st ride out of the year. Need a few more of them to get the fitness up, really felt the legs giving up on the last XC section but the DH made up for the hurt...
So, are we up for another ride on 5 Feb? Don't know where yet, but maybe like the one we have just done, just to try and raise the fitness.
Re evening rides: I'll probably wait till March time for lighter nights and dryer weather (??).....0 -
Don't think I can make the 5th, gotta go upto Collingham to installing network stuff.
edit just checked diary it's Sunday the 6th I'm in Collingham so yeah I can make it.0 -

as long as i can get some new front pads before the 5th im ok with it,just hope superstar aint away next week.0 -
So Barkey & Our Kid, if you are still up for a ride on Saturday, below is the route I was thinking of. A couple of climbs to test the legs and a good descent of Black Hambleton.
Arden Moor & Black Hambleton
I should think the weather will be better than this time last year on this route......
Anyone else care to join us?
EDIT: Just checked weather forecast and it looks like wind with a little bit of rain, but there is a few days to go. It could change, it might be torrential rain and gales.....0 -
-
as long as i can get some pads ill be ok for ride
bro was you still on about doing the start and finish the opposite way round?0 -
I'm struggling for Saturday lads, I've got the dreaded man flu....
And it's not because it's forecast severe gales with horizontal rain...0 -
cancel this saturday,i have no pads anyway...and i dont fancy getting soaked to the skin like we did when we rode pateley last year, add to that, the 100mph gusts of wind forecast for moors0
