Sounds like you should be on a bigger travel bike to get an even faster time for the next race you'll enter?

I'd love a bigger travel bike, was really pleased at how the spicy performed though, can take a big hit but wouldn't want to thrash it any harder though as I don't think it could take the continuous beatings a proper DH, coil sprung FR/more beasty trail bike could take. My fella is getting himself a DH bike shortly so going to steal his SX Trail to do DH on since it can take it a bit more than my spicy and until I can source myself a DH bike for cheap! There are quite a lot of people who go for the SX Trail for DH to start off with. Good solid bike wouldn't you say Matt? :D

Ha, tis a great bike and can also take double crown forks, (200mm things) although its not recommended by specialized , with a DH cassette on it and a single ring at the front, maybe a 36T it would be ideal for most uk DH stuff. Its certainly great at giving you lots of confidence to do anything! well maybe not bike it uphill! :P

i took a jolly out to brantingham yesterday. its ridable, if not a little slippery.
word of warning! the route back from the scout camp to the a63 has a fallen tree just before the final left hand bend. STOP!!!! i went right and found myself in a bombhole and had to climb back over the tree to get past. everywhere else is passable though!

Good to hear about the local route, it should get a bit dryer over the weekend with no rain forecast.

Looks abit painful mate! Don't have much luck with the peaks! Lucky you didn't break anything though!

I was at good old dalby on Sunday, demo'ing Orange bikes. Had a go on the Orange Blood again, lol and the Orange Alpine 160.

    01-10.jpg
Orange Blood, with Fox 36 Float R (160mm) forks, £3000.

Great bike, always love riding it mainly as its so fast going round corners or switching direction. Had immense fun with the many berm at dalby whilst riding it around the demo loop. Ideal for a play bike, something for messing around on, not really a decent all day bike as its ment to be riden whilst out of the saddle ideally. Only thing i didn't like about it, it seemed to dart around under braking, however this could be my lack of riding talent rather then the bike.

    02-7.jpg
    Orange Alpine 160, with Fox 36 Float R (160mm) forks, £3000.

This is more of an all day, 'all mountain' thing. Something which I wish my SX trail was! It climbs effortlessly, whilst being able to descend very well, although Dalby forest isnt the best place for it, as really you want some in the lakes or scotland rather then an XC trail. The colour also looked ace in real life, something the camera didn't pick up.

Should be riding in the peaks on sunday with a friend. Route will prob be, Hope > Hope Cross > Down Blackley Clough > Rowlee Farm > straight on towards Crook Hill (down the B/way down the to A57) > cross over the resv > up through the woods towards Hope Cross > descend to Hope via Whin Hill . Around 12-13miles. Gonna be a fairly slow pace, both on fairly heavy bikes, and its my friends first ride in about a yr. However, if anyone wants to join us, your more then welcome.

tell me about it mate,at least my shoulder aint as painfull today tho, thats twice in 2 weeks ive gone over handle bars.

as for peaks,it was dry most of route we did,we did same route as youre doing, but we went down through nabs woods to derwent res, then along side of derwent to ladybower, then we climbed back up hagg side from ladybower back to hagg farm, then dropped down and across a57 and then back up on to top and dropped back down into hope, took us 2 hours 15 mins riding time.

Don't they recognise you at the Demo Days now Matt...? I bet they are saying "He always plays but never pays"....

The Alpine looks a good bike but a little out of my price range me thinks.

I've been riding in the peak district today! Started from Hope and went out towards Hagg side (Derwent Res) and back via Crook Hill, Whin Hill. Lots of fun, a stupid ammount of brake fade too

Did around 15miles in 5hrs, of course with some 2500ft of climbing.

You might have done the same route we did last week Matt. We went up from Hope along the Roman Road and down Blackley Hey. Past Rowlee Farm and descend along Nabs Wood into Derwent, onto the tarmac and then up the nice tough ascent between Bridge End Pasture and Hagg Side. Then back along Ladybower and finish off up and over Wooler Knoll.

Good little route, like you say, hard work though for being a short ride.

It is mate, some real nice descents. Aye its hard work for the distance. My mate did quiet well though, not riden outside of Dalby before, although we did both walk up most of the descents. More of a day out rather then fittness/training ride. 8)
