just a couple of pics from north york moor ride me and giggsmaster went on 14 feb,we only decided late saturday night to go on it,so apoligies for not inviting ppl to join us,bloody killed me tho, first ride in 3 months.
started out a hawnby only did 10 miles in 3 and a quarter hours,2 feet of snow in places
0 -
There definitely was a fair amount of snow in places, made the riding very tough in parts. It was good to get out, but I don't know when this snow is going to disappear, it looks like there could be some more of the stuff on the way....
Here are a couple more pics.
And here is the Route we did.0 -
altern8 is that you walking again0

From the Dalby site:
"Update 25th February 2010: The forest drive is now open and passable with care. The cycle trails remain closed at this time - weather permitting we hope to have the trails open for the weekend. The walking trails are open but please take extra care as there is still snow and ice in places. For further information please call the Visitor Centre on 01751 460295 before you travel. Thank you for your patience at this time."

yea i looked at that earlier. just wondered if anyone knew of any other good trails anywhere else, nothing too strenuous mind!0

There are a few trails around the Welton/Brantingham area, but at the moment could be bit boggy with all the rain and such. I went up on the moors couple of weeks ago and it still had bit of snow around, which made it very hard going.
I'm sure if Barkey or sl reads this they might be able to give you some advice on the condition of the trails over in Brantingham, they tend to do a ride round there every so often.
At the moment I'm just doing some boring road riding till the weather picks up.0 -
yeah its very boggy around here at the moment
there is a couple of trails that are just ridable but if you or your lass are not that fit i don't think you will enjoy it that much0 -
had a little jaunt out to stainburn forerst today with bro and a mate,it was a last moment decision...rode the red down hill which me and bro didnt like that much, and rode part of the black downhill which we 4ought was better then the red, only did 6 miles and spent 3 and half hours there...all in all bit of a long way to drive out there,i wouldnt go there again unless staying in the area0

You make it sound as though it is really bad our kid....
To be fair I didn't mind the Red Run, but the Black was definitely better. For my skills there were too many bigish drop offs on the Red, probably with a bigger hitting bike I might have enjoyed it a bit more. Think the Black Run is more technical, so I liked trying to pick my way over the smaller rocks.
The big downside for me was having to push the bike back up the hill after every run, which probably took longer to do than actually doing the DH....
Like our kid says, if I lived more local to it I would go more often, like if I had a spare hour to kill. But, to travel 1 hour and 30 mins, I prefer a XC route.altern_8 wrote:did 6 miles and spent 3 and half hours
We did do a little loop of the Forest across the road, which was very boggy, but it did have a few technical DH's. I think we did spend about 2 hours talking....0 -

a few pics from todays ride, started at church houses, climbed up to blakey ridge on road which was 20% and just under a mile long, rode along ridge (lost my speedo)to blowith crossing, snow was everywhere,so headed to the forest we normally climb out of from cockayne, went down through forest into cockayne, then climbed back out,and finally descended back to church houses,13 miles, and a nice day out apart from the snow.
looking back along blakey ridge
on top of ridge
shin deep in snow
couldnt ride so more pushing of bike
messing about in snow lol
bike after ride,needs a clean0 -

I know Barkey, at some points we wished we had done a ride round Brantingham....
>Matt, I was saying to our kid it could be the end of this month till it totally goes. There was a digger up on the top though and it looks like it was doing a clearing up job.
Some more pics
Thinking of doing a ride in the Peaks on Saturday if anyone is up for it. Probably 15-20 miles.0 -

Aye, the peaks isn't too bad. Although it was bad above castleton/cavedale. Going to watch some trails motorbike stuff in Scarborough on sunday. Might get out down at Aston Hill (nr London) in the next few weeks, its basically full of DH tracks. Should be fun!Yorkshire Man living in Somerset

Hey guys hows it going, just thought I'd check in!
Sorry I haven't said hello for a while, things have been a bit poo here. And in the tradition of rubbishness most of my weekends over the winter have been spent teaching small children and chavs how to fall off snowboards!
I'm also having massive knee problems and have been referred to a specialist AGAIN!
As the winter season draws to a close I should have more free time as they wont be running so many snowboard lessons. However due to the state of my busted knees still not sure how much intensity I can take....if you're ever doing any non-hardcore routes give me a shout........and no I don't mean boring flat stuff like disused railway lines - I'm not that much of a cripple...yet!!!Ride it like you stole it!0
