    Hi Just started,
I'll try and get a pass out for Sunday too, will have to be quite early though as the wife is working from 1pm on Sunday :(

Are you thinking of doing bobs/Giggs local route? If you are where in Welton do you want to meet up?
  • Noddyh

Early is good for me, let me know what time. Thats the route I have printed off.

Outside the pub is always a good place to meet think its the green dragon Welton. I dont know the route so can start anywhere.

    Hopefully see you sunday.
  • just wondering did the giggs brantingham route this morning and upset a few walkers who where not happy about sharing their precious path!!! Converstaion was civil but reminded me of the country code!!!

did I take a wrong turn or does that route use a nice dh section only for use by our walker friends and a few other bits?

the majority of it is footpaths and not bridleway,we have never had any trouble from anyone about using it,its not just us mtb riders who use it tho,you get horse riders as well.we just give walkers a lot of consideration when going towards them or coming up behind them, you was prob just unlucky to bump into a walker who wanted to have a moan about it.i wouldnt let it stop you riding it tho,as we still will be :D

bit short notice,if anyone is free this afternoon, myself and giggs are doing local route, starting at 2-30pm from top of corby park/north ferriby.
  • Firstly a thanks to you members who post details of the routes; having bought a bike a few months ago and unsure of where to ride; the info has been invaluable!

I have been doing the ride up and around Welton/Elloughton etc for a couple of months now and have really enjoyed it. I've had no grief from walkers, in fact people genuinely seem very friendly to each other, until this Sunday when a group of 4 stubbornly refused to move to one side on the path dropping down into Elloughton. At the stile they informed me they were sick of people on bikes hurtling around the footpaths. Perhaps the hikers are getting militant!

What are the rules? Are we breaking any?

hello bringbackbuck, myself and giggs went out on local loop yesterday, and met a few ppl walking there dogs etc,and it was all hello nice day chat between us all....we did notice that sum walkers had but numerous branches across the path, think it was the woods which take you onto spout hill..........regarding the laws, its complicated,'cycling on footpaths' actually relates to the riding of cycles on a 'footway set aside for the use of pedestrians' which runs alongside a road.the only way you can get fined for riding on a footpath(of which you was stopped on by walkers)is by the land owner as you would be committing trespass and the landowner could bring a case under civil law against you if he so chose.........i was reading about it on the internet tho,and it said sumwhere that we cant be prosecuted for riding on footpaths, and neither can horse riders,so depending on what you read yes you are or no youre not breaking any law, hope that helps, lol, but dont quote me on that if youre took to court :wink::wink:

Hi Guys and Hi to the new people too!

How is everyone? Sorry not been active for a while, been getting Uni out the way with and what not but finished now for the summer!

Went down to South Wales at the weekend and took part in the Kona Mashup, it was really good fun! I would really recommend it as all it is is completing a loop of an XC route and being timed on particular sections. Matt and I were in the technical category which was meant to be more DH orientated, however it was more just like really cool single tracks, nothing scary at all as the enduro category had to do two of the down sections too. The separating sections were that we had to do a black run, which the enduros didn't have to do, and the enduros did two climb sections which we didn't have to do.
The idea is really simple however they messed up the timing on the sections big time and no one knows how they have done, not sure if they can even sort through the data to find out either! Apart from that it was just good to get out and meet some really cool people :)

We also stopped off at Cwmcarn and Cannock Chase for our proper DH fix :D

The foot path laws are silly, they should bring in the 'right to roam' as it is in Scotland!

Now that I have got my eveinging free, I should hopefully should be able to make it out after work sometime for a local jaunt. Are there any plans for a further afield trip over the summer?
    delightfully dangerous!

hi there,we dont really head over towards leeds/bradford,we mainly ride peaks/moors/sumtimes the dales, and only now and again go to dalby,as it gets a bit boring for me,dalby is ok for a blast maybe once every 2 months, imo.

Now come on our kid it weren't that bad..... :P There were a few bits of the ride what would be good to try and incorporate into another ride, like we said. Though, the road to finish off with was a bit long and tedious.

Barkey, I would be tempted with the ride tomorrow but the other half has took the afternoon off.... But, if you are up for Thursday night?

And, yeah good to hear about Dalby!

    Hi

We usually do 15-20 mile ride around the Brantingham area. Altern 8 & I start at the far end of Ferriby near Corby Park. Barkey starts at home via Humber Bridge Car Park. Takes about 1.5 hrs - 2.5hrs approx. Depends on time, but night rides around 6.30pm.

I ride footpaths and usually find walkers are ok if you slow down / stop / give then a cheery hello - if that's you and your crew then I could well be in for a go on Thursday, would just need to arrange ( pm? ) a suitable meeting place and time. What sort of pace do you ride at? - I'm around 8mph average on hilly terrain - did Dalby Red on Saturday in 2:40 with a few minor "offs" - slippy boardwalk and the wicked tight / twisty steep downhill descent ( still a bit rusty round the edges  !!)

Maybe pm me if you think I'd be ok with you guys??

I think for the moment then will can say a 6.30pm start on Thursday, unless anybody else puts their name down and can only do abit later. Is Ferriby ok with you, Splatter, or do you want to meet on route. The route we do is on a couple of pages back.

2 hr 40 mins is good going for the red route, it's been a while for me since I've done the full route, the last couple of times we have been at Dalby we have done bit of black, red & World Cup course. Though we did an average of 8 on the Moors today.....
