I did this a couple of years ago, it really is a killer ride. The first day starts well but once the climbing starts it's just a very long slog! Blacksail pass on the ascent is unridable, did giggs say weather he managed to ride down from Blacksail pass, we tried but found we had to keep stopping for walkers. In the end just decided to walk down! Then theres another pass, Sty head to get over once blacksail is cleared again unridable for the most part :(

How did the last day go? We had a strong westerly wind when we did it and it turned into some of the best riding ever, blasting across the moors and letting us clear the final day in just under 8 hours :) I clocked 48mph going down into RHB :D

Aye, it is defo a killer, my legs are in ruins.... The climbs in the lakes are very hard especially when you are riding them one after another. I'm not 100% positive at what route we took, as my friend Loz had the GPS Route on his Garmin and since he was out at the front all the time I didn't get to ask where we were.... :D

I do know there was a very dodgy climb (and I mean climb ) on the 1st day, it took us the best part of 2 hrs to get to the top. It had us trekking along a track with our bikes on our backs for a mile or so, then we had to traverse a Crag to get to the top, crazy! Then on the descent you couldn't ride at least half of it. I did enjoy this day the most though.

The 2nd day had a good few climbs in it where you could manage to ride nearly all the way to the top, with rideable descents. There was an awful slog at the end to reach the B+B, in the pouring rain.

3rd day started very boggy, this was like it all the way past Tan Hill Pub until just north of Reeth. We then started to ride quite a few gravel tracks so made good time to the finish.

4th day, tough start and tough finish, but good middle section across the moors. It felt weird to be back in the area I know.

So, overall. Would I do it again? If you asked me when I was on route, then no

But, if you ask me now, definitely yes! Next time though, I would do it in 6 days so we could take in the scenery and explore the stopovers more.

Errrr, no..... We couldn't be bothered to go all the way to the water, it was too far out. Is this wrong

Here are a few pics from the ride. You can tell we started to get sick of the ride because we took around 20 pics on the 1st day, 5 on the 2nd, then 4 on the 3rd, with 5 on the last

Hey gigs, great work on the coast - coast, I can imagine some of those climbs if you had to carry your bike haha.
I'm off to the highlands in a couple of weeks adventure training, so will be good to get on a bike there, as well as mischievous shenanigans :P

Hi Giggs, first of well done to you all!
Do you have the route you took?

    On the quotes;

I agree whole heartedly mate, On route I said the same thing - never again! But on reflection I would do it again and I agree with extending it by a couple of days so it can be enjoyed (would go so far as to say maybe 7 days, with a rest day up the middle! but I'm over 40 so need to take it easy  )

Let me know when your all out on the local loop and I'll try and get along to join you, would be good to meet you all.

I'm actually at the moment thinking of what I can do next, looks like I'm addicted to pain.....

I'll probably be out local sometime next week, maybe Wednesday. I'm giving my legs a little rest before I get back on the bike. My Achilles Tendon feels bit tight at the moment.

I agree with Bob, the BBC weather reports these days are very pessamistic - I think they now just forecast crap weather. Lets face it if they forcast rain and it's glorious no one complains

I use these two sites and the BBC atlantic charts to try and get an idea of what it's likely to be doing...

    http://uk.weather.com/

    http://www.accuweather.com/en-us/EUR/UK ... r&metric=0

Both give hour by hour forcasts and generally are pretty much on the money.

Cheers mate, looks similar to the route we took, except at Ennerdale bridge we headed east along Ennerdale and over Black Sail pass. After Ambleside it looks the same ;)
