Matty is doing the Winter DH Bike Series at Innerleithen and I'm meant to be marshalling! Sure going to see some good biking (and probably lots of bad to go along too, hoping I don't have to pick up too many broken people)!Giggsmaster wrote:Isn't it all about getting some nice scars to show off to your mates..... And going on your previous, I'll give you 10 minutes before you kill yourself Wink
I'd give myself even less time then that! ha ha!

I was speaking to our kid the other day and was wondering if you could put together a route around Brantingham which wouldn't be too boggy and muddy.
What do you reckon for a nice 10-15 mile ride?0 -
most likely be a lot of road riding, I'll go out one day this week and and check out how bad it is as some sections handle the weather a lot better than others.0
-
Ended up going to Wharncliffe yesterday to test out all my new kit, and I can say it all works! The DH tracks weren't too bad, a bit slippery and the mud sticky so couldn't get any real speed. However, the fireroad to the top was a nightmare, it was still a couple of inches of icey slush snow that was impossible to bike in and a pig to push up, it was more of a work out doing that then actually riding the tracks!!
The DH track we did was really good, I would say its not much worse than the black sections at Dalby really, plus there are loads of different options if you want to make it more difficult/easy. Definately recommend, but i'd wait till all the snow has melted.delightfully dangerous!0 -

Nice1, cheers for that mate. Hopefully it will be half decent so we can do a bit of off-roading, while the rest of the country defrosts...DanielleT wrote:Ended up going to Wharncliffe yesterday to test out all my new kit, and I can say it all works! So, no bumps and bruises then...?
Always been interested in going there, but heard stories that it is too muddy often than not. I suppose during the hot and dry months (?) it could be fast and furious, yeah?
How long are the tracks then?0 -

Nope! I did crash into a tree and went over the bars on two occassions but body armour works!!
It was a bit muddy but not the worst i've seen on trails before. It would definately be a fast and furious one for summer!
The track that we were doing wasn't particularly long since it was DH and was done in 5 mins with a push up back to the top. I'm assuming the other DH routes will be of similar lengths but there is an XC route there too. Check out http://www.wharncliffe.info/ for more infodelightfully dangerous!0 -
I spent this sunday morning Demoing the new orange blood around Epping Forest (Nr London)
Amazing bike, 6inch at the front and 5inch at the back of travel, retails at about £3k though...
Rides really well, had alot of fun on the muddy trails getting it sideways out of the corners.Yorkshire Man living in Somerset

I manged to get out today on the wolds and most of the good sections are ridable and not too muddy but where the horses have been it's pretty bad.0
-
i'm not a big fan of Wharncliffe - we tried it last summer and it just seemed a bit, er, disjointed. talked to a few guys there and got the impression that the XC trails hadn't been maintained in a while (maybe i've been a bit spoilt by the likes of dalby). the downhills were ok but imho they were too short to justify the trudge back up.
as for riding round here, you can get up to 40 mile loops from hessle/anlaby while hardly touching any road. i ran some of the trails at weekend and they seemed pretty good all things considered."scalare come se al grembo degli dei" (apologies to any Italain speakers if the grammar/spelling is off)0 -

Good to hear about the local trails not being too muddy.
Depending on the weather, I'm going out for a ride on Sunday morning. Don't know where yet, but it will either be the ole Brantingham loop or up to Dalby for a short blast (12-15 mile).
Let us know if anyone is up for it.0 -

Looks like they trails may be open now, but I think I will leave Dalby for this week, it says on the site that it could be bit slushy...
So, if anyone is interested. I'm doing some of the local loop on Sunday with our kid. Probably set off at around 10ish from North Ferriby.0 -

Myself and Barkey were out and about doing a little loop around Brantingham area on Sunday. Went out at 10am so the route was nice and frosty, by the time we had finished though it started to defrost... So, we did abit more road than usual.
Here is the loop, hope it helps.

Can't believe how muddy my bike was from the ride on Sunday. Got it out and noticed the chain and rear mech covered in the stuff, also a rear flat aswell which I didn't notice the other day...0 -

Hey all,
A few friends and I went for our first peaks ride of the year yesturday. We started in Hope at 10:45am, it was fairly damp and cold as we unloaded the bikes. I was keen to see how my new tyres (Maxxis Highrollers Super tacky) would proform in such damp, wet conditions.
We started the first climb straight away, heading up the side of Win Hill, upto Hope Brink as the mist became thicker as we gained height.
Eventually joining onto the old roman road heading towards Hope Cross. Once at Hope Cross we blasted down the Beast, which was rather wet and loose. We heard many rocks underneath the bikes as they rattled down the track. Then we headed out towards the road, heading east across Rowlee Bridge, and up the big climb up the side of Blackley Hey.
Finally we got to the top, where we found quiet abit of snow still, which was mostly unridable. We got back to Hope cross, where we blasted down into Jaggers Clough where we stopped for some Lunch.
My bike at lunch time, muddy but it was only going to get worse!
After Lunch we headed down into Edale Valley and then abit of road riding into Edale itself. Then we started the somewhat slow and massive road climb upto Mam Tor.
Once at the top of Mam Tor, we heading towards Cavedale! However we had to push some on some of the tracks before we got there, due to yet more drifted snow.
At this point it was starting to lose light too. We eventually got to Cavedale where the fun began. The descent into Cavedale, is full of small/med sized rocks, most of which where loose with some providing drops. It was quiet a enjoyable but techy descent.
Me heading down Cavedale.
The cavedale descent finishes right in the middle of Castleton village, where we headed on the road back to Hope.
Pretty good day, although I was pretty tried by the end of it.Yorkshire Man living in Somerset
